2 Chapter 1. Service information 1-1. Important service information Strategy for replacing parts (FRU-Field Replaceable Units) Before repl acing parts Make sure that latest BIOS and dri vers are i.
3 1-2. Safety notices Warnin g Before the co mputer is powered-on afte r part (FRU ) replacement, make sure all sc rews, springs, and other sma ll parts a re in place and are not left loose inside the co mputer. Ver ify this by shaking the computer and listening for rattling s ounds.

8 Handli ng devices t hat are sensi tive to electrostatic discharge Any computer par t containing trans istors o r integ rated ci rcuits (ICs) should be cons idered sensiti ve to electrostatic discharge (ESD). ESD damage can occur when there is a dif ference in charge between objects.

18 BIOS Flash You can update BIOS using a floppy disk d rive . Because this system is not equ ipped with any floppy disk dr ive, you have to use an e xternal U SB drive for a BIOS update. In orde r to boot up with an USB drive, please set Removable D evice as the fi rst boot up drive in the boot menu of BIOS setup.
19 BIOS Setup BIOS (Basic Input and Output Sy stem) S etup saves the syst em configuration in CMOS R AM , and check the configu rations du ring s tartup. Use the BIOS Setup Utility to change an d save the system envir onment, hardware con figurations , power saving mode, e tc.
20 Using the keys The keys used in the B IOS Setup Utility and their functions are described at the bottom. · , + : General Help Display the descriptions of the keys used in the set up utility. · , : Select It em Navigate and select items in the setup utility.
21 System Tim e Current time. Use < Tab >, < Shift-Tab >, o r < Enter > keys to move around these fields. To change the value, press < + > or < − > key. System Date Today date. U se < Tab >, < Shift-Tab >, or < Enter > keys to move around these fields.

23 Ch3. System info rmati on Exit Saving Ch anges Select Exit Saving Changes to save new se tup informa tion in CMOS R AM. CMOS RAM sto res the information using the backup battery; therefore, the inform ation will not be lost when the com puter is turned off.
24 Note If r eplacing a pa rt (FR U) does not solve the proble m, put the or iginal part back in the computer . Do not replace a non-defectiv e FRU . The symptom-to-pa rt index in this section lists symptoms and er rors and thei r possib le causes. The most likely cause is listed first.
25 · Check ing the AC adapter If the power- on indicator does not turn on, check the power cord of the AC adapter fo r correc t continuity and installation. If the computer does not charge during operation, go to “Checking opera tional charging.” To check the AC adapter, do the follo wing : 1.
26 · If the voltage is not correct, replace the AC adapter. · If the voltage is acceptable, do the fo llowing : 1. Replace the system board. 2. If the problem persis ts, check the AC adapter whether it is correct product or not. · Checking ope rational charging 1.
27 · The Charac teris tics of the battery pack 1. Self-discharge The battery gradually loses its power ove r time w ithout ever being used. 2. Periodic full disch arge / charge Frequent recharge o f the battery pack can reduce the capacity of the batte ry pack.
28 · To check the battery pack , do the following : 1. Power off the comp uter. 2. Remove the battery pack and measure the volt age betwee n battery terminals 1(-) and 5(+). 34 Indeterminate problems · You are here because the diagnostic tests d id not identify which adapter or devi ce failed, wrong devices are installed, a short ci rcuit is suspected, or the system is inoperative. Follow these procedures to isolate t he failing FRU (do not isolate FRUs that have no defects).
