PCL 2-5 Print Area Menu Item The print able area is the area on a sheet of paper wit hin which a pel can be printed. Logical page is a concept ual entity that defi nes the area in which margins (t op, bottom, left, r i ght) may be s et and the area in which the PCL cursor may be positioned.
PCL 2-6 The Print Area menu item is availab le from the printer opera tor panel or th rough MarkVi sion Profes sional. For some p r inters, Print Area supports thr ee values: Nor mal, Whole Page, and Fit to Page. See your printe r document ation for more inf ormation.
PCL 2-7 Some prin ters offer the Fit to Page setting . When Fit to Page is sel ect ed, PCL emulation or Post Scri pt emulat ion for mats a page using a pr intabl e area equal to the physical page, which is from one edge of the page to the other edge of the page.

PCL 2-60 Raster Imag e Graphics These commands utilize the raster a rea. Before se nding data, set t he presentat ion mode, the resolut i on, the compression mode, the raster heig ht and w idth, and start raster grap hics. PCL 2-62 Run-Length Encoded Data Run-Length Encoded Data is interpr eted in pairs of byt es. The first byt e : • Acts as a counter , or control byte. • Indicate s how many times to repeat the data in the seco nd byte. • Can be from 0 (no repetiti on) to 255.
PCL 2-63 Delta Row Delta Row is a compression mode that iden tifies and transmi ts only those bytes dif ferent from the on es in a preceding row . The c ontrol byte consi sts of two parts: • High 3 bits: Number of byt es to replace +1 (1 to 8).
PCL 2-64 Adaptive Compression Adaptive compressi on allows the combined use of compression methods 0 through 3 (Uncoded, Run- Length Encoded, TIFF , and Delta Row). I t also allows th e printi ng of empty rows (all ze ros) or duplicate rows. • The T ransfer Raster Data command size includes all rows (scan lines).
PCL 2-65 Zlib Zlib i s a generi c co mpression method. It refer s to a s tand ard for compre ssion as well as the library that implements the standard. The zli b compression method use s the deflate al gorithm. This same al gorithm is used by more widely known compressi on uti lities such as PKZIP and GZIP .

PCL 2-67 Macros When creating a macro, fi r st assign it an ID number . If this number is identical to an existi ng macro ID in RAM, the ol d macro is deleted when you specify the Macro Control Star t Defi nition. Next, start the macro defi nition, send th e contents of the macro, and stop the macro defini tion.
PJL 3-1 CHAPTER 3: Printer Job Language Y our printer supports complete Pr inter J ob Language (PJL) commands, inclu ding certain commands tha t cause the printer to enter PCL emulation, PostScri pt emulation, an d Personal Printer Dat a Stream (PPDS).

PJL 3-4 Job Separat ion Commands Y our printer support s the PJL JOB and EOJ commands. When the prin ter receives a JOB command, the print ti meout is multiplied by 10; when the print er r eceives a PJL EOJ command, the print ti meout is reset to the user defaul t.
PJL 3-5 Parameters: NAME = " job name " Use the NAME parameter to assign a charac ter string name to a particular job. The name may be any combi nation of print able character s, spaces or hor iz ontal tabs up to a maximum of 80 charact ers, spaces, or tabs.
