RT-20 Universal Disc Player Getting Started 1-7 MP3 The RT -20 s upports: • MP3 tracks record ed on a 5-inch (12cm) or 3-inch • (8cm) CD-R/RW that is ISO 9660 compa tible. The disc can be finalized or unf inalized, although infor- mation (i.e. playback time) may not display when an unfinalized disc is loaded.
Getting Started Lexicon 1-8 DISCS TO A VOID The RT -20 is compatible w ith 5-inch (12cm ) and 3-inch (8cm) c on- ventional, round discs. Do not atte mpt to load discs with other size and shape characteristics, such as those shown below . All discs must align with the circular guide inside the disc drawer .

RT-20 Universal Disc Player Basic Operation 2-3 When the RT -2 0 is powered o ff, standby mode is automatically deactivated, although the Standby LED remains lit for a few sec- onds after the RT -20 is powered off. When the R T -20 is powered on, standby mode is also deactiva ted, even if standby mode was activated when the RT -20 wa s powered off.

Basic Operation Lexicon 2-10 REAR P ANEL CONNECTIONS All versions of the RT -20 require at least one video a nd one audio output connection. Th ese are the minimum connections req uired for playback. However , it is recommended to configu re a digital and an analog audio co nnection for optimal pe rformance.
RT-20 Universal Disc Player Basic Operation 2-11 HDMI CONNECTION All versions of the RT -20 offer an HDMI out put. A single HDMI cable transmits uncompressed vi deo data and digital audio data ( e . g . , L P C M o r b i t s t r e a m d a t a s u c h a s D o l b y D i g i t a l , D T S , o r MPEG).
Basic Operation Lexicon 2-12 DIGITAL AUDIO CONNECTIONS All versions of the RT -20 offer digi tal audio output on S/PDIF coax- ial and S/PDIF optical connect o rs. The AES/EBU connector offers S/PDIF digital audio out put with AES/EBU electrical charac teristics.
RT-20 Universal Disc Player Basic Operation 2-13 REMOTE CONTROL OVERVIEW The RT -20 rem ote control prov ides full operation of the RT -20, exe- cuting functions such as men u navigation that are not availa ble from the front pan el. The Command Matrix on page 2-14 to 2-1 8 describes the commands remote control buttons execute.

Press the remote control SETUP but ton. 2. Select SETUP using th e remote control or buttons, then press the button or ENTER butt on.
Setup Lexicon 3-4 Language Setup Parameter T able OSD LANGUAGE Determines the language in wh ich the RT -20 on-screen display menus appear . DVD MENU LANGUAGE Determines the langua ge in which DVD me nus and top menus appear . If the selected DVD menu language is available on the loaded DVD, the RT -20 selects that language.
RT-20 Universal Disc Player Setup 3-5 default disc audio language. This menu can only be select ed while the disc is in stop mode. Select Others to choo se a language other th an English, French, German, Spanish, or Italian. The DVD format recognizes 18 differ- ent languages, which are listed i n the next column.
Setup Lexicon 3-6 Note : • If t he Auto Language paramete r is set to On, the RT -20 auto mati- cally selects the default disc subtitle language, regardless of the Subtitle Language par ameter setting.
RT-20 Universal Disc Player Setup 3-7 DOLBY DIGITAL OUT Controls Dolb y Digital audio output format when a Dolby Digit al source i s present and the R T -20 is using a digi tal audio output connector . This parameter has no effect when using any of the analo g output connectors.

Setup Lexicon 3-12 Select Off if no subwoofer is pr esent. The RT -20 will not redirect low-frequency signals t o other analog audio outp ut connectors. When speaker size pa rameters are set to Off, the corresponding speaker distance paramete rs cannot be adjusted.

Setup Lexicon 3-30 HDMI RESOLUTION Use to select the desired HDMI image resolution. Possible settings are: VGA <640 X 480>, 480p/576p (525p/625p), 720p (750p) and 1080i (1125i ). Resolution is defined by the numbe r of horizontal lines displayed o n screen that comprise each fr ame of a video imag e.

When one RT -20 is installed in the system, assign the DVD_2 command mode to the remote co ntrol and the RT -20.

RT-20 Universal Disc Player Setup 3-37 PROGR ESSIVE MOTION Use to adjust the smoothness of motion picture quality . Video sources can be recorde d on video or film. Sources recorded in North America on vide o have a 30 frames-per-se cond (interlaced) or 60 frames-per-second (progre ssive) rate.
Setup Lexicon 3-38 CHROMA LEVEL Controls the co lo r saturation of video sources. HUE Controls the red-to-green co lor balance of video sources. CHROMA DELAY Compensates for misalignment of the Y (luminance) and C (chrominance) compo nents present in video signals.

Playback Modes Lexicon 4-2 NA VIGA TING DISC MENUS Most discs include on-screen disp lay menus that can be used to select disc settings, co ntrol playback, or view information about the disc. Note: The description s below provide a genera l overview of disc menus available for each disc format.

RT-20 Universal Disc Player Playback Modes 4-5 SELECTING DISC SETTINGS Some disc menus can be used to se lect disc settings such as audio track (audio language and output format), subtitle language, and camera angle. In some cases, ce rtain remote control buttons can also be used to select these se ttings without navigating through the disc menu.
Playback Modes Lexicon 4-6 SUBTITLE LANGUAGES Opens a Subtitle bar as shown to the right, which can be used to select the desired subtitle langua ge. Subtitle language selection is available for DVD-Vs recorded with subtitles. Subtitle language select ion is not available for othe r disc formats or for discs that are not re corded with subtitles.

When an MP3 track is included in a complex file structure, the RT-20 might re quire a few seconds to activate p layback.
