15 Introduction As with a grand piano, the CN34 digital piano feat ures three p edals: sustain, sostenut o, and soft . Sustain pe dal ( right pe dal ) Depressin g this pedal sustains th e sound af ter one’s hands have bee n lifte d from the keybo ard - greatly enriching the pian o sound, w hile also assisting smooth ‘l egato’ passages .
16 Pla ying the Piano Sounds are arranged into nine categories, with multiple sounds assigned to each category but ton. For a c omplete listing of the available instrumen t sounds, plea se refer to page 1 1 1 of this owner’ s manual. By default, the ‘Concert Grand ’ sound will be sele c ted aut omatically when the instrument is turned on.
17 Pla ying the Piano The Demo function provides an excellent introduction to the varied capabilities of the CN34 digital piano. There are 3 1 dierent de monstration songs available, highlighting the instrument’ s rich sele c tion of high quality sounds, and power ful speaker system.
18 Pla ying the Piano The Dual Mode func tion allo ws two sounds to be layered together , creating a more complex sound. For example, a piano sound lay ered with strings, or a church organ combined with a choir , etc.
19 Pla ying the Piano 3. Adjusting the main/lay ered sound volume balance While Dua l mode is in use: Use the BALANCE sli der to adjust the volum e balance bet ween the t wo sounds. As the volume of the main sound increases, the volume of the layered soun d decreases, and v ice versa.
20 Pla ying the Piano The Split Mode function divides the keyboard into two sections, allowing each se c tion to be play ed with a dierent sound. For example, a bass sound in the lower sec tion, and a piano sound in the upper sec tion. 1 . E n tering Split mode Press the SPLIT but ton.

25 Pla ying the Piano 2 Eects In addition to reverb, various other eect s can be applie d to the selec ted sound, altering the tonal character and feeling of the instrument . As with rev erb, some sound typ es enable cert ain eects automatically in order to enhance tonal quality.
26 Pla ying the Piano As with an acoustic piano, the CN34 digital piano produces a louder sound when the key s are struck with force, and a sof t er sound when the keys are pla yed gently .

28 Pla ying the Piano The T ranspose func tion allo ws the pitch of the CN34 digital piano’ s keyboard t o be raised or lowered in semi-tone intervals . This is particularly useful when accompanyi ng instruments tuned for die rent k eys, or when a song learned in one key must be pla yed in another key .
29 Pla ying the Piano Using the Song T ranspose func tion it is also possible to transpose recorder songs stored in internal memory, and SMF song les stored on a USB me mory device. This allows the pitch of the song to be adjusted without aecting the pitch of the ke yboard.
30 Pla ying the Piano The Metronome function provides a steady beat to aid prac ticing the piano at a consistent tempo . In addition to regular metronome beats, the CN34 digital piano also features a variety of drum rhy thms to ac company most playing st yles and musical genres.

34 Internal Songs The Lesson func tion allows budding pianists to prac ti ce the piano using a sele ction of built-in song book s. The lef t and right hand part s for each piece can be prac ticed separately, while adjusting the tempo allows dicult passages to be p er fected .

44 Recorder The CN34 digital piano allows up t o 3 dierent songs to be recorded, stored in internal memory, and pla yed back at the touch of a button. Each song consists of t wo separate tracks - re ferred to as ‘ part s’ - that can be recorded and played back independently .

48 Recorder 3 Eras ing a P ar t/Song This func tion is used to erase recorder par ts that hav e been re c orded incorrec tly or songs tha t are no longer listened to. 49 Recorder The CN34 digital piano is also capable of recording per fo rmances as digital audio - saving the data to a USB memory device in either MP 3 or W A V format.

64 USB F unctions 5 Sa v e Registration The Sav e Registration function is used to sav e registra tion memories stored in the instrument to a USB memory device.
65 USB F unctions 6 Rename File The Rename File function is used to rename song, audio, and registration les st ored on a USB memory device. 1 . Selec ting the Rename File function Connec t a USB memor y device, then press th e U SB but ton to enter the USB Menu .
66 USB F unctions 7 Delete F ile The Delete File function is used to delete song, audio, and registration les stored on a USB memory device. Once a le has be en deleted from the USB device it cannot b e reco vered. 1 . Selec ting the De lete F ile function Connec t a USB memor y device, then press th e U SB but ton to enter the USB Menu .
67 USB F unctions 8 Forma t USB The Format USB function is used to format the conn ec ted USB memor y device, erasing all stored data. The USB Format function will erase all data stored on the connec ted USB memory device.
68 Settings The Set tings menus contain a variet y of options t o adjust the CN34’ s operat ion and sound. Settings are grouped by categ ory, provid ing convenient acce ss to relevant contr o ls.
69 Settings The Basic set tings menu contains set tings to adjust the pitch, tuning, and general sound of the instrume nt. This menu also allows fa vourite panel se ttings to be stored, or reset back to the original fac t or y c onguration. Basic Settings Page no.
70 Settings 1- 1 Equaliser (E Q) The Equaliser function allows the ov erall sound character of the CN34 digital piano to be adjust ed to ensure the best sound quality within the area that the instrument is located.
71 Settings User EQ setting User EQ bands Description Low Adjusts th e low range fre quenc y band. Mid -low Adjusts the mi d-low r ange frequ ency ba nd. Mid-high Adjusts the mid-high range frequenc y band. High Adjusts the high range frequenc y band.
72 Settings 1- 2 Speaker V olume The Speaker V olume setting allows the maximum volume le vel of the CN34 digital piano’ s speaker output to be reduced, providing ner adjustment co ntrol ov er the master volume.
73 Settings 1- 3 Phones V olume The Phones V olume setting allows the max imum v olume level of the headphones output to be increased. The default setting for Phones V olume is ‘Normal ’ in or der to protect an individual’ s ears from excessiv e volume levels.
74 Settings 1- 4 Li ne Ou t V olu me The Line Out Volume setting allows the le vel of the instrume nt ’ s Line Out output to b e adjusted. This setting may be useful when connecting the CN34 digital piano to mixers and other audio equipment. * This s etti ng does n ot aec t the sp eaker or h eadpho ne volum e.
75 Settings 1- 5 A udio Recorder Gain The Audio Recorder Gain setting allows the rec ording le vel of MP3 / W A V audio les to be adjusted. While the instrument ’ s default audio re corder level .
76 Settings 1- 6 Tu n i n g The T uning setting allows the ov erall pitch of the CN34 digi tal piano to be raised and lowered in 0.5 Hz steps, and may therefore prov e useful whe n pla ying with other pitched instruments.
77 Settings 1- 7 Damper Hold The Damper Hold setting is use d t o determine whether sounds such as organ or s trings should be sustained continuously when the sustain ( damper) pedal is pres sed, or whether these sounds should decay , naturally . Damper Hold sett ings Damper Hold Description O (default) Organ, str ing, etc.
78 Settings 1- 8 Four Hands The Four Hands setting provides an alternativ e method to enabling the Four Hands Mode function, and may pro ve useful in teaching environme n ts or situations where this function should be enabled automatically ev er y time the CN34 digital piano is turned on.
79 Settings 1- 9 Use r M e mor y The User Memory function allows preferred panel sett i n g s t o b e s t o r e d i n t h e instrument ’ s memory, and automatically recalled as the default settings ev ery time the CN34 digit al piano is turned on.
80 Settings 1- 1 0 F actor y Reset The F actor y Reset function clears any settings stored us ing the User Memory func tion abov e, restoring the CN34 digital piano back to its factor y default settings. * This f unct ion doe s not clear r egistr ation me morie s or recor der son gs store d in interna l memor y.
81 Settings An experie nced piano technician is essential t o fully real ise the potential of a ne acoustic p iano . In addition to meticulously tuning each note, the technician also pe r forms numerous regulation and voicing adjustmen ts that allow the instrument to truly sing.
82 Settings 2- 1 Damper Resonanc e Pressing the damper pedal of an acoustic piano raises all dampers , allo wing the strings to vibrate freely. When a note or chord is pla yed on the piano with the sustain pedal pressed, not only will the strings of the notes played vibrate, but also the strings of other notes, vibrating in sympathetic resonance.
83 Settings 2- 2 St ring Resonance String Resonance refers to a phenomenon that exists in ac oustic pianos whereby the strings of held notes resonate ‘ sympathetically ’ with other notes of the same harmonic series.
84 Settings 2- 3 K ey- o Eect When playing an acoustic piano – particul arly in the bass region of the keyboard – if a k ey is play ed with force and released quickly, it is often possible to hear the faint sound of the damper touching the strings immediately before the vibration s are stopped.

86 Settings 2-5 T e mperament The T emperament set ting allow s the tuning system used by the CN34 digital piano to be changed from the modern ‘Equal T emp erament’ st andard t o one of the various temperaments popularise d during the Renaissance and Baroque per iods.
87 Settings T e mperament Ke y The T empe rament K ey setting allows the key of the selec ted temperament to be sp ecied. When using a temperament other than Equal temp erament, use this setting to specif y the key signat ure of the piece.

91 Settings 3- 3 La y er Octa v e Shif t The Layer Oc ta ve Shift set ting allows the pitch of the lay ered sound when using Du al mode to be raised or lowered in octav e steps. 1 . 92 Settings 3- 4 Lay er D ynamics When using Dual mode, sometimes simp ly adjusting the volume balance betwee n the two la yered sounds is not enough to create the desired sound charac t er , espe cially if both sounds are v er y dynamic. Layering two equally dynamic sounds can prov e dicult to control and pla y comfortably.
93 Settings MIDI Ov er view The term MIDI is an acronym for Musical Instrument Digi tal Inter face, an in ternational standard for connecting musical instruments, computers, and othe r devic es to allow the exchange of performance data. 94 Settings MIDI F unctions The CN34 digit al piano suppor ts the fo llowing MIDI f unctio ns: T ransmit / receive note information T ransmit/rec eive no te inform ation t o/from a MIDI- c onnected musical in strument or devic e. 95 Settings 4- 1 MIDI Ch an nel The MIDI Channel set ting allow s the transmit/receiv e channel to be specied . The selected channel will func tion as both the transmit and receive channel ( separate transmit/receive channels cannot be specied).
96 Settings 4- 2 Send Program Change Numbe r The Send Program Change Number function is used to send a Program Change Number ( 1 - 1 28 ) to the connected MIDI devic e.
97 Settings 4- 3 Local C ont rol The Local Control setting determines whether the instrument will play an int ernal sound when the keys are pressed. This setting is useful when using the CN34 digi tal piano to c ontrol an external MID I devic e.
98 Settings 4-4 T ransmit P rogram Change Number s The T ransmit Program Change Numbers setting determines whether the CN34 digital piano will transmit program change information via MIDI when the instrume n t ’ s panel but t ons are pressed.
99 Settings 4- 5 Multi- timbral Mode The Multi-timbral Mode set ting determines whether or not the CN34 digital piano is able to receiv e MIDI information on more than one MIDI channe l simultaneously . This allows the instrument to play back multi-track , multi-timbral per formance data sent from an external MI DI devic e.
10 0 Settings Channel Mute The Channel Mute setting determines which MID I channels ( 1 - 1 6) are activated to receive MIDI information when Multi-timb ral mode is enabled. * This setting is only a v ailable when the Multi-timbral Mode setting is set t o ‘On 1 ’ or ‘On2’ .
101 Settings The CN34 digital piano features a ‘USB to Host’ t ype conn ec tor , allowing the instrument to be connected to a computer using an inexpensive USB cable and utilised as a MID I de vice.
