12 English Basic Operations T urning On the Power Press ST ANDBY/ON on the front panel or A UDIO on the remote control. On the front panel F rom the remote control The ST ANDBY lamp goes off and the illumination lamp lights up. The current sour ce name appears on the display .
13 English T o use both pairs of the speakers Press SPEAKERS 1 and 2 so that the SPK 1 and 2 indicators light up on the display . T o use neither pairs of the speakers Press SPEAKERS 1 and 2 so that the SPK 1 and SPK 2 indicators go off fr om the display .
14 English T urning Off the Sound T emporarily F rom the remote control ONL Y Press MUTING to mute the sound. “MUTING” appears on the display and the volume turns off (the volume indication goes off). • When “DVD” is selected as the source with your TV turned on, “VOLUME –” appears on the TV .
15 English DGTL A UT O Select for the digital input mode. The DIGIT AL AUTO indicator lights up. The unit automatically detects the incoming signal format, then the sound signal indicator for the detected signal (see below) lights up; otherwise, no sound signal indicators light up.
16 English Changing the Scanning Mode This unit supports the progressive scanning system (480p * ) as well as the conventional interlaced scanning system (480i * ). If your TV has component video jacks and supports progr essive video input, you can enjoy a high quality picture from the built-in DVD player .

18 English T o stop playback Press 7 . The unit memorizes the point where you stop playback and the RESUME indicator lights up on the display (except when an audio CD is loaded). While the RESUME indicator is lit on the display , you can start playback from the memorized point by pr essing 3 —Resume play (see “About Resume play” on page 19).
19 English About T ray Lock Y ou can prevent the disc tray fr om opening unintentionally by using T ray Lock. On the front panel ONL Y T o lock the disc tray , pr ess 0 while pressing SETTING when the unit is in standby mode. The unit is turned on and “LOCKED” appears on the display for a little while.
20 English T uner Operations Setting the AM T uner Interval Spacing Some countries space AM stations 9 kHz apart, and other countries use 10 kHz spacing. • 10 kHz interval spacing is the initial setting. On the front panel ONL Y 1 T urn off the unit.
21 English Using Preset T uning Once a station is assigned to a channel number , the station can be tuned in quickly . Y ou can preset up to 30 FM and 15 AM stations. 7 Storing preset stations Before y ou star t, remember ... There is a time limit in doing the following steps.
22 English 7 T uning in to a preset station On the front panel 1 Press FM/AM to select the band. The last received station of the selected band is tuned in. The CONTROL buttons now work for tuner operations. Ex.: When selecting the FM band 2 Press CONTROL ∞ (or 5 ) repeatedly until “ < PRESET > ” appear s on the display .
23 English 4 Press CONTROL 3 (or 2 ) to select an appropriate n umber of the connected speakers. • Each time you press the button, the indication changes as follows: 5 SPEAKERS Select when the front, center , and surround speakers ar e connected (initial setting).
24 English 9 Press MEMOR Y to finish the setting. “SETUP END” appears on the display for a while, then goes back to the source indication. • Speaker configuration settings now become active. For the register ed speaker size and distance, see below .

29 English 7 T one ¶ For bass sound—“B ASS” ¶ For treble sound—“TREBLE” Y ou can adjust the bass and treble sounds as you like. Adjust the tone within a range of –10 dB to +10 dB in 2 step intervals (“0” is the initial setting).

33 English Adjusting Surround Mode Using Remote Contr ol When playing back the source with Surr ound mode, you can adjust the speaker output levels for Surround modes. Once you have adjusted the Surround modes, adjustment is memorized for each source.
34 English Note on Region Code DVD players and DVD VIDEO have their own Region Code numbers. This unit can play back only DVD VIDEO r ecorded with the color system of NTSC/P AL whose Region Code numbers include “4.

39 English Selecting the Subtitle Language While playing back a DVD VIDEO/DVD AUDIO/SVCD containing subtitles in differ ent languages, you can select the subtitle language to be displayed on the TV . The icon appears at the beginning of playback when the current scene has plural subtitles.
