Intr oduction 1 A MX Lighting PROlink/AXlink Programming Intr oduction The AMX Lighting Control System employs a dual-platform programming system using the Axcess and PR Olink software programs to control the dimming of electroni c ballasts, incandescent lamps, low v oltage track lighti ng, and a host of new transformers.
Introduction 2 AMX Lighting PROlink/AXlink Programming PROlink wall panels PR Olink wall panels are av ailable for direct co nnection to the AMX Lighting system. PR Olin k panels do not rely on an AXlink connection. PROlink panels hav e an internal fixe d program that is powered from the PR Olink connector on the AMX Lighting controller .
Intr oduction 3 A MX Lighting PROlink/AXlink Programming The first of a t en pack PR Olink system can have one of the 255 AXlink addresses. That means that a single AXlink address can control 60 channels of dimming or an entire PR Olink system.
Introduction 4 AMX Lighting PROlink/AXlink Programming All this communication takes milliseconds of time . The AXlink buf fer sends data to the PROlink buf fer , receives commands from the PROlink b uffer , receiv es data from the Axcess Central Controller , and connects AXlink lev e ls to an Axcess Central Contro ller .
Intr oduction 5 A MX Lighting PROlink/AXlink Programming One way to solv e many of these problems is to a pply dif ferent control curves to each dimmer and to provide a v ariab le lo w- end cutof f point.

Programming Strings 15 A MX Lighting PROlink/AXlink Pr ogramming Pr ogramming Strings Strings A string is a set of v alues grouped together with sin gle and/or double quotes. Character arrays (strings) are enclosed between double quotes while ASCII string s are enclosed within single quotes.
Programming Strings 16 AMX Lighting PROlink/AXlink Pr ogramming PR Olink com mands should not be sent while the PR Oli nk buf fer is responding to the previous command or a data collision coul d occur . In Axcess programs there should be at min imum a 3/10- sec.
Programming Strings 17 A MX Lighting PROlink/AXlink Pr ogramming There are three special presets in AMX Light ing controllers that hav e a fixed, non-programmable function. Special preset #255 ram p s a preset down; preset #254 ramps a preset up; and preset #253 allows dry closures to record pr esets.
Programming Strings 18 AMX Lighting PROlink/AXlink Pr ogramming T o determine if a AMX Lighti ng lev el is in the 'UNDEFINED' st ate you must use the PR Olink string command for single dimmer status as describ ed in PR Olink - Status section under the heading 'Dimmer status'.

Appendix B: AMX Lighti ng Curves 40 AMX Lighting PROlink/AXlink Pr ogramming of f-state at level 0 to an on-state at le vel 10 0. Dimmer output is measured in volts. A graphical representation of a dimming curve is usually the percent age of dimming in relation to the output voltage (RMS) of the dimmer co nnected to a standard load.
Appendix B: AMX Li ghting Curves 41 A MX Lighting PROlink/AXlink Pr ogramming Each curve allo ws a dimmer to change its output characteristics in rela tion to the amount of dimming. For example, the standard dimming curve at 50% could make a light brighter than another curve also at 50%.
Appendix B: AMX Lighti ng Curves 42 AMX Lighting PROlink/AXlink Pr ogramming The RAD-VDR module uses a combination of the s econd and third dimmer characteristic to send a variable lo w-voltage control signal along with a single switched output. This mod ule is commonly used for control of dimmable flu orescent ballasts.
Appendix B: AMX Li ghting Curves 43 A MX Lighting PROlink/AXlink Pr ogramming FIG. 16 shows the dimmer turning on to lev e l 20 from an off condition. It maintains the lev el unt il the dimmer reaches a le vel abov e 20%, at which po int the dimmer output st arts to climb again.
Appendix B: AMX Lighti ng Curves 44 AMX Lighting PROlink/AXlink Pr ogramming Similar to Cu rve 1, Curve 2 rolls of f at 90% of the t op end or about 105 volts maximum. FIG. 19 sho ws a curve that reduces the maxi mum output to 90% of maxim um to conserve ener gy .
Appendix B: AMX Li ghting Curves 45 A MX Lighting PROlink/AXlink Pr ogramming FIG. 21 shows the output v oltage of a RAD-MC120 dimm er . It has a smooth taper and a cut of f point of 25 volts.
