4 Intr oduction This camera recorder enables recording of HD f or mat images on an SDHC card, and also playback of these images. Recording in Quic kTime File Format Recording can be made in Qu ickTime file f ormat of Final Cut Pro , a video ed iting softw are from Apple Inc.

6 Intr oduction Handling of SDHC Cards 䡵 The access lamp lights up in red when data on the SDHC card is being access ed. Do not remo ve the SDHC ca rd during data access (su ch as recording, pla yback, or fo r matting). Do not turn off the po wer or remo ve the battery and AC adapter during access either .

19 Preparations Attaching the Zoom Lens (Supplied with GY-HM7 00U/GY-HM700E only) 1 Loosen the mount ring. 2 Attach the zoom lens such that the pin matches the hole of the moun ting area. 3 Tighten the moun t ring. 4 Connect the cable connector . 5 Attach the lens cable to the c lamp.
20 Preparations Attaching the Vie wfinder (Supplied) 1 Slide the viewfinder in the direction of the arr ow to attach i t. 2 T urn the slide lock ring to secure the position of the viewfi nder . 3 Attach the vie wfinder cable to the viewfinder terminal.
21 Use an AC adapter (sold separately) to o perate the camera recorder with A C power . 1 Connect the DC cable of the A C adapter to the [DC INPUT] terminal of the camera recorder . Check that the powe r of the camera recorder and the AC adapter is tu rned A OFF B and connect as shown in the diagr am.
22 Preparations Attaching the Battery (GY-H M700CHU/GY- HM700U) Use the Dionic90 (Anto n Bauer) batter y . 1 Align the batte ry guide pins (x 3 ) with the battery , adapter , and guide hol e and insert str aight. 23 P ower Status Displa y 䡵 Viewfinder and LCD Monitor Screens The power status is displa yed on the status and menu screens. If the batter y or supplied voltage from the A C adapter is low , a w ar ning will be displayed in red.
24 Preparations T urning On the P ower 1 Set the [PO WER] s witch to A ON B . The camera recorder star ts up in Camera mode. M em o : ● The camera recorder alwa ys star t up in Camera mode when the [POWER] s witch is set to A ON B . ● Press the [CAM/MEDIA] button to switch to a different mode.

26 Preparations Changing the Displa y Style Y ou can change the displ a y style of the date/time on the menu. M em o : ● T o perform the settings while looking at the monitor screen connected to the video signal output terminal, set [Analog Out Char .
27 When the lens is first attached , adju st the back f ocus of the lens if the focus is not clear when zoomed to the telephoto or wide angle end. ● Place an object 3 m and abo ve a wa y from the camera. ● The Siemens Star Chart is most suitable as the object.
28 Preparations Adjusting the LCD Monitor Y ou can change the angle and bri ghtness of the LCD monitor screen according to your usage condition. Changing the br ightness of th e screen will not affect the recorded images. 䡵 Adjusting the Angle of the LCD Monitor 1 Slide the LCD lock release knob to open the LCD monitor .

30 Preparations These are indicator lamps f or recording and war ning. The operati on changes according to the menu settings. When the battery or remaining space on the SDHC card is low , the lamps blink. (Camera mode only) * Set using [T ally System ]/[F ront T ally]/[Back T ally] in the [Main Menu] B [Others.
31 This camera recorder sav es the recorded images and audio sound on the SDHC card (sold separately) in th e card slot. M em o : ● If the SDHC card contains files recorded by de vices other than this camera recorder or files that are sav ed from a PC , the recordable time ma y be shorter or data may not be properly recorded.
32 Preparations Switching SDHC cards When both card slots are inser ted with SDHC cards, you can use the [SLO T SELECT] button to s witch the card to use. When the memo ry on an SDHC card is full dur ing recording, data recording automatically switches to the other card.
33 Restoring the SDHC Car d It is necessar y to restore the SDHC card if an abnor mality occurs to the data in the card due to some reasons. The message A Restore Media B ap pears on the LCD monitor/ viewfinder screen when an SDHC ca rd that re q uires restor ing is inser ted.

36 Shooting Y ou can select the file format for recording/pla yback and the record format f or video images on this camera recorder . Selecting a File Format There are two file formats for selection. QuickTime : QuickTime file format MP4 : MP4 file fo r mat * * A MP4 B can be selected only when KA-MR100G (Memor y Recorder) is connected.
37 Y ou can adjust the aper ture of the lens iris manually or automatically according to th e brig htness of the object. Manual Iris (Man ual Adjustment) Mode Set the [IRIS] switch on the lens to A M B to enter Manual Iris Mode. T ur n the ir is ring on the lens to adjust th e iris manually .
38 Shooting Y ou can change th e shutter speed (time for each shooting frame) using the electronic shutter function. Electroni c shutter can be adjusted ma nually or automatically . Fixed Shutter Mode (Man ual Shutter Switc hing) Use the [SHUTTER] switch ( JK ) to s witch between shutter modes and speeds.

40 Shooting Adjust the white balance according to the color temperature of the lighting. Y ou can se lect the adjustment mode according to the shooting conditi ons.
41 䡵 Error message If the white balance adjustment is not correctly completed, one of the follo wing messages will appear for about 5 seconds. 䡵 White P aint Adjustment Y ou can fine-tune the white balance sav ed in Memor y A or Memory B.
42 Shooting Y ou need to adjust white shadi ng when you change the lens. Even if white balance is adjusted in the center of the screen, the top and bottom of the screen may not be adjusted. In this case, green and y ellow colors ma y appear on the screen.
43 Use the ND filter to keep the lens aper ture in the appropriate range. Switch according to the br ightness of the object. When the switch is changed, the position of the s witched ND filter is display ed on the LCD monitor and viewfinder screens.
44 Shooting Y ou can record audio from the two channels (CH-1/CH-2) in synchronization with video images on this camera recorder . The camera recorder is e q uipped with [INPUT1] and [INPUT2] ter minals f or audio input. Y ou can select a recording channel and the adjustment mode (manual/ automatic).
45 N o t e : ● When the [FULL A UT O] s witch on the camera recorder is set to A ON B , the recording le vel canno t be adjusted with the [A UDIO LEVEL CH-1/CH-2 ] adjustment knob .
46 Shooting Time code and user’s bit data are recorded with the video in this camera recorder . The time code and user’ s bit are display ed on the viewfinder and LCD screens d uring playbac k or recording.
47 Presetting the Time Code Time code and user’s bit data generated from the inter nal time code generator are recorded. This section describes how to set [TC Preset] in the [TC/UB] menu.
48 Shooting Presetting the User’ s Bit Y ou can add an 8-digit hexadecimal number as the user’ s bit to the recorded image. 1 Select [Main Menu] B [TC/UB] B [UB Preset] and press the Set button ( R ). ( A Pa g e 8 2) The [UB Preset] setting screen appears.

50 Shooting When the luminance l ev el range f or displa ying zebr a patterns is specified, diag onal lines (z ebra patter n) are displayed at areas with the specified luminan ce le vels during shooting.
51 The brightness of th e object during shoo ting is display ed. This function is useful when setting video or stage lighting or when specifying camera exposure. A cursor indicating the location and the brightness (% ) of that location ar e displa yed in the images sho wn on the LCD monitor and viewfinder screens.
52 Shooting 䡵 When [Man ual] is sel ected A [SPO T METER FIXED] is displa yed when the s witch is flipped. The br ightness of the cursor position is displayed. B [SPO T METER OFF] is displa yed when the s witch is flipped. Displays of cursors and brightness disappe ar .
53 N o t e : ● During Clip Revie w , only the [CANCEL] and [REC] button s are enable d. Press the [CANCEL] b utton to cancel clip re view and return to A STBY B (recording standb y) mode. Press the [REC] b utton to cancel clip re view and enter recording mode.
54 Shooting Y ou can app end OK marks to the clips for impor tant scenes. Clips appended with OK mar ks cannot be deleted, thus protecting the impor tant clips. In addition, you can display only the clips with OK marks in th e thumbnail display during Media mode.
55 Clip Continuous REC In normal recording, when th e recording stops , the image , audio , and accompanying data fr om the star t till the end of the recording are re corded as one A clip B on the SDHC card. This mode allows you to consolidate sev eral rounds of A star t- stop recording B into one clip.
56 Shooting V ariable Frame REC Shooting in thi s mode allows you to obtain smooth slow motion or q uick motion videos. Using diff er ent frame ra te settings f or recordi ng and playbac k., videos captured at nor mal speed can be play ed back more smoothly than those in low or high speed playbac k.
57 Playbac k T o play back clips recorded on SDHC cards, s witch to the Media mode (SD Card mode). Press the [CAM/MEDIA] selection button in Camera mode to enter SD Card mode. A th umbnail screen of the cli ps recorded on the SDHC card is display ed. Y ou can play bac k the selected clip on the thumb nail screen.

When the camera recorder is in Media mode (SD Card mode), you can delete the [OK] mar ks append ed during recording, or append/delete [OK] mar ks after shooting.
65 Deleting OK Marks 䡵 During Thumbnail Screen 1 Select a clip to delete OK mark and pre ss the [USER1] button. The OK mark is deleted.
