10 1 Preparing and using for the first time T Remove an y dirt or foreign object s from inside the bean container . T Fill the bean c ontainer with coffee beans, then close the aroma preservation cover and the bean c ontainer cov er . If the machine is oper ated with a defective mains cable , there is a danger of potentially fatal electric shock.
11 1 Preparing and using for the first time T Place a receptacle under the coffee spout. k T Press the Rotar y Switch. ‘Machine is rinsing. ’ , the machine rinses. The operation stops automatically . ‘Please select produc t:’ appears on the display .
12 1 Preparing and using for the first time T Open the filter holder and inser t the filter cartridge into the wat er tank, exerting slight pressure. T Close the filter holder . It will click into plac e audibly . E After t wo months, the filter will cease t o work.
13 1 Preparing and using for the first time Y ou can find out what the water hardness is b y using the Aquadur® test strip supplied as standard. T Hold the test strip briefly (f or 1 second) under flowing w ater . Shake off the w ater . T Wait f or about one minute .
14 1 Preparing and using for the first time Y ou can adjust the grinder on a continuous scale to suit the degree of roast of your coff ee. If you adjust the consist ency of grind when the grinder is not oper - ating, the grinder adjustment switch could be damaged.

17 2 Preparation Y our IMPRESSA can prepare a latt e macc hiato or cappuccino at the touch of a button. There is no need to mo ve the glass or c up. Example : Proceed as follo ws to prep are one latte macc hiato. T Remov e the protective co ver from the cappuccino frother .
18 2 Preparation Example : Proceed as follo ws to prepare milk foam. T Remov e the protective co ver from the cappuccino frother . T Attach the milk pipe to the cappuccino frother . Use the long pipe for a milk carton and the shor t pipe for a milk container .
19 2 Preparation E The desired speciality coffee mu st be prepared within approx - imately one minute after filling with the ground coffee . Oth- erwise the IMPRESSA stops the oper ation and is once more ready for use . All speciality coffees with ground coffee are prepared f ollowing this model.

In progr amming mode you can c hange this setting so that the machine start s the switch-on rinse automatically .
