Y ou can doub le click the icon second from right to bring up Utility T ool (Windows XP built-in) to set the wireless environment, or y ou can click “ Start ” ,“ Setting ” , “ Control P anel ” then doub le click icon to bring up WLAN Utility T ool with more detail inf or mation.
Window Built-in Utility f or Win XP After clicking the icon, WLAN Utility T ool window will be sho wn as follo wing. Please click the tabs on the top of the screen to configure. (If you use the utility first time , the system will use windows built-in utility as the def ault utility .
Windo ws chec kbo x : Use Windows to configure wireless network. A v ailab le netw or ks: Display the av ailable networks list. Y ou can click “ Refresh ” b utton to get a new list, or choose one av ailable network then click “ Configure ” button.
SysT ra y Chec kbo x: Show wireless icon in SysT ra y . Adv anced Button: Use the function that you can decide what network access type to be adapted as follo wing. Authentication T ab: Choosing this option to provide authenticated network access for wired and wireless Ethernet network s.
Further more, user can select different “ EAP type ” to protect computer safety when connecting. Advanced T ab: The option suppor t Inter net Connection Firewall to protect user’ s computer by limiting or pre v enting access to this computer from the Internet as below .
If you don’t want to use windo ws utility , please cancel the windows check bo x in wireless Network T ab (page 8). Then clicking the icon, WLAN Wireless Configuration Utility window will be shown as follo wing. Please click the tabs on the top of the screen to configure.
Link Status: This option enab les you to view the connect inf ormation (Status, SSID , AP’ s MA C Address, WEP , Speed, Channel, Client IP Address, Connection T ype), and signal strength (Signal, noise).
WLAN Utility T ool for Win XP Site Monitor T ab: This option enables y ou to view the av ailable networks. At the same time, y ou can also know e v er y network’s Standard , Suppor t Rates and Signal Strength . The “ Freeze ” button can stop the network search and update process.
WLAN Utility T ool for Win XP AP Config T ab: This page can set your Cardbus card as an Access P oint. 6. Enab le AP chec kbo x: Use your notebook computer as a Wireless Access P oint (AP). Netw or k Name (SSID): This field is the network name shared among all devices in a wireless network.
WLAN Utility T ool for Win XP Data Encr yption: Selecting “ None” disables WEP data encryption. Selecting WEP enables WEP data encr yption. WEP: Enter 5 ASCII characters or 10 hexadecimal digits f or a 64-bit key . Enter 13 ASCII characters or 26 he xadecimal digits f or a 128-bit ke y .
Note: If y ou want to pass the received pack ets to another network (for e xample: Internet), you must hav e an Ether net network card (connected to the Inter net) and build a bridge between the AP and netw ork card. Then, all end users connect to the AP can trav el in the inter net via this br idge.
18 T roubleshooting 1. Adapter Installation Prob lems If your computer cannot find the IOGEAR ® Wireless-G Notebook Networ k Card 802.11g Wireless Cardbus Adapter or the netw ork driver is not installed correctly , check the f ollowings , • Make sure the adapter is securely inser ted in the Cardbus slot.
Diagnostics Utility • Make sure y our computer is using the latest BIOS. • If there are other network adapters in the computer , they ma y be causing conflict, remov e all other adapters from the computer and test the wireless adapter separately .

7 Win 98/2K Installation Software Installation Inser t the IOGEAR ® CD (packed with the product) into CD-R OM, wait f or automatic pop-up window and then click “Install Configruation Utility” to proceed with the installation. After the installation process is complete, re-star t y our notebook PC.
WLAN Utility T ool for Win 98/2K After clicking the icon on the abov e icon-tra y , WLAN Utility T ool window will be shown as f ollowing. Choose the network that you want to connect, and click the “ Connect ” button. 8 Y ou can also click the “ Advanced ” button to configure and modify setting.
9 Enab le Radio chec kbo x: Enable/Disab le Radio function. A v ailab le Netw or ks: Displa y the a vailab le networks list. Y ou can click “ Refresh ” button to get the updated list, or choose one av ailable network then click “ Configure ” button.

Site Monitor T ab: This option enables you to view the av ailable netw orks. At the same time, you can also kno w ev ery networ k’ s Standard , Support Rates and Signal Strength . The “ Freeze ” button can stop the network search and update process.
Diagnostics T ab: This section let you select what items do you want to test included Control Register s , SPROM Format V alidation , Memory T ests , Interrupt T est , Loopback T est and LED T est . This tool will help you to e xamine the hardware device quickly and easily .
13 Enab le AP Chec kbo x: Allows you to use y our Notebook as an Access Point. Netw or k Name (SSID): This field is the network name shared among all de vices in a wireless network. The SSID must be identical f or all devices in the wireless netw ork.
14 54g Mode: Select the mode to 54g Auto f or the widest compatibility . Select the mode to 54g P erformance f or the fastest perf or mance among 54g cer tified equipment. Set the mode to 54g LRS if you are experiencing difficulty with legacy 802.11b equipment.
