6 Overview Bluetooth™ is a low-pow er wireless networking standard which uses shor t radio wa ves to allo w elec- tronic devices to comm unicate with each other without using cables. The follo wing applications are suppor ted by Bluetooth™ technology: • Synchronize your Bluetooth™ PD A with your computer .

10 Introduction IOGEAR ® ’ s Wireless Bluetooth™ to USB Adapter is a class 2 device with a wireless working distance of 60 feet (20 meters). This device allows an y computer with USB connections to become a Blue- tooth™ enabled computer . It complies with Bluetooth 2.
11 Installation-Windows Windows XP Service Pac k 2 The Microsoft Bluetooth stack comes included with Service Pack 2 f or Windows XP . If you already ha ve Service Pack 2 installed, y ou may choose not to install drivers from the installation CD and instead use the Microsoft Bluetooth drivers.
12 Installation-Windows 2. If you accept the license agreement, click Next..
13 Installation-Windows 3. When you approach the end of the installation process, the Driver Signature Notice ma y appear . Simply click OK to proceed with the installation.
14 5. Once the driver installation has completed, click Finish and REST ART your computer 6. After restar ting the computer , proceed to plug in the Bluetooth USB Adapter , and wait a f ew seconds while Windows recognizes the de vice. Installation-Windows 4.
15 Initial Bluetooth™ Confi guration Wizard 1. Once the Initial Bluetooth™ Confi guration Wizard has star ted, clic k Next. 2. Now double clic k the Bluetooth™ icon in the system tra y . This will star t the “Initial Bluetooth Confi guration Wizard.
16 Initial Bluetooth™ Confi guration Wizard Next, enter a unique name f or this computer . This name will be display ed to other Bluetooth™ devices . Select a computer type from the drop- down menu and clic k Next. 3. Click Next to confi gure the services this com- puter will offer to other Bluetooth™ de vices.
17 Choose the services that this computer will offer to other Bluetooth™ de vices by placing a check in the bo x. T o display the properties, click on the confi gure b utton. Click Next to proceed. 5. At this point, Windows will install the software necessary for the services you selected.
18 Initial Bluetooth™ Confi guration Wizard Once Windows is fi nished installing the software , the follo wing window will appear . This windo w will allow you to confi gure your computer to use the service of another Bluetooth Device.
19 Uninstall Drivers Windows 1. First, unplug the IOGEAR USB Bluetooth adapter from your computer 2. Go to Control Panel (Start > Settings > Control Panel) 3. Click on Add or Remov e Programs 4. Click on IOGEAR Bluetooth Software and clic k on [Remove] 5.
20 Installation-Mac OS X Installation – MA C OS X 1. Use of the IOGEAR Bluetooth adapter requires MAC OS X v10.3.9 or later . There is no need to install any additional drivers , as Apple provides all required Bluetooth drivers under MA C OS X v10.3.
21 2. Double-clic k on the Bluetooth icon and under the Settings tab , make sure Bluetooth P ower is ON and that the bo x ne xt to Discov erable is chec ked.
22 3. T o begin setting up your Bluetooth de vice, select the Devices tab and clic k on Set Up New Device . 4. This will initiate the Bluetooth Setup Assistant; click Continue to proceed.
23 Installation-Mac OS X 5. On this window , you can select what type of Bluetooth device y ou want to setup . Please make y our choice below and then click Contin ue. 6. Y our computer will search Bluetooth devices in your area and displa y them under the window below .
24 1. Double-clic k on the IOGEAR ® Bluetooth ™ icon in the system tra y . Connect to a Cellular Phone How to connect to a Cellular Phone (Bluetooth Enabled) Next, clic k on Search for de vices in range . As illustrated below , the Bluetooth-enabled cell phone is detected.
25 In the case of Nokia phones, you can tak e full advantage of y our Bluetooth phone by using the Nokia PC Suite software. Please check www .nokia.com to see the version of the software supported by your Nokia phone. Once you ha ve the Nokia PC Suite software installed on your system, please proceed with the instructions below .
26 T ransfer images fr om PC to cell phone 1. Double-clic k on the IOGEAR ® Bluetooth ™ icon in the system tra y . How to transfer images from your cell phone to PC 2.
27 3. Double-clic k on your current phone that is connecting to your PC . 4. Double-clic k on the OBEX fi le transfer on “name of your phone”. T ransfer images fr om PC to cell phone.
28 5. Double-clic k on the picture folder . Right-click on the images fi le that y ou want to transf er to your PC . Scroll down to Send T o , then select Bluetooth Exchange Folder .
29 The fi le will be transf erred to the Bluetooth Exchange Folder on your PC . 7. T ransfer images fr om PC to cell phone.
30 8. On your PC , go into My Documents. T ransfer images fr om PC to cell phone.
31 9. Double-clic k on Bluetooth Exchage Folder , and you will fi nd the copied fi le in this folder . T ransfer images fr om PC to cell phone.
32 Find the image on your PC that y ou want to transf er to your cell phone. 1. How to transfer images from your PC to cell phone. T ransfer images fr om cell phone to PC Right-click on the image. Scroll down to Send T o , then Bluetooth , then select other .
33 3. Select your cell phone and clic k OK 4. The copying process will begin 5. After it is fi nished, you can go bac k to the picture folder on y our cell phone. Just follo w the procedures in operstion “ Ho w to transfer images from y our cell phone to PC ” to open up the folder .

36 How to Connect to Network Access (Bluetooth - Enabled Computer) Next, clic k on Search for de vices in range . As il- lustrated below , the Bluetooth-enabled computer is found. 2. 1. Connect to Network Access Double-clic k on the IOGEAR Bluetooth Icon in the system tra y .
37 Double clic k on the device to displa y a list of its services. T o estab lish a network connection, right click on Network Access and select Connect to Network Access P oint. 3. When the connection is being established, y ou will be prompted to accept/deny the connection on your other computer .
38 Once you estab lish the connection, the Network Ac- cess icon will turn green and say “Connected. ” Y our device will be ab le to share its Internet connection (if the device has Internet access) and fi les. If a pass key has been set b y either device , the pass ke y is required to connect both Bluetooth™ enabled de vices.
39 How to connect to a Bluetooth ™ Enabled Printer 1. Double-clic k on the IOGEAR ® Bluetooth™ icon in the system tra y . Connect to a Printer Next doub le click on “ Find Bluetooth™ Devices ”.
40 Double clic k on the printer you wish to connect to . 3. Connect to a Printer Click OK to install the printer . If y our printer is already installed, the printer proper ties window will appear .
41 If your printer is already installed, the printer proper ties window will appear . Click on Print T est P age to print a test page. 5. Connect to a Printer.
42 How to connect to a PD A (P ersonal Digital Assistant) Connect to a PD A Next doub le click on “Find Bluetooth™ Devices”. 2. Double-clic k on the IOGEAR ® Bluetooth™ icon in the system tra y .
43 Connect to a PD A At any time, when service requests are made from or to another Bluetooth™ device (e .g. File T ransf er , Network Access, Serial P ort Connec- tion, etc.), a pass ke y is required to connect the devices .This authentication is not required once devices are paired (see Chapter: What’ s P airing? ).
44 Using ActiveSync via Bluetooth Disclaimer Important Notice IOGEAR does not guarantee the f eatures and functions of ActiveSync software on all PD A phones and PC, nor the synchronization capabilities betw een PDA phones and PC via Bluetooth connection.
45 Using Active Syne via Bluetooth Impor tant Notice: ActiveSync 4.0 needs to be installed prior to installing the IOGEAR Bluetooth software on your PC .
46 Using ActiveSync via Bluetooth Y our PDA phone will prompt f or input of the passke y . Please enter “0000” and click OK on the top right cor ner to continue Y ou will see a dialog box appears on the bottom right cor ner of y our PC screen, click on this dialog box and enter “0000” into the text bo x of Bluetooth security code.
47 Using ActiveSync via Bluetooth Y our PDA will try to establish the connection now Y ou will see again a dialog box appears on the bottom right cor ner of y our PC screen, click on this dialog box and chec k the box f or “Alwa ys allow this de vice to access this service.

50 What is “Pairing ?” P airing is a Bluetooth™ function that enables Bluetooth™ devices to remain permanently linked to another . What “Pairing” means in terms of security? As mentioned, P airing allows devices to permanently link with each other .
51 Unpairing Devices 1. Right-click on the Bluetooth™ de vice and select on “P air device”. 2. Enter a Pass K ey when asked. Note: The P ass Key on both devices m ust be the same! Example: If Device 1 tries to pair with Device 2, De vice 1 will prompt f or a Pass K ey .
52 Windows XP Service P ack 2 - Bluetooth Stac k If you are running Windows XP with Service Pac k 2, you ma y use the Bluetooth drivers provided b y Microsoft. K eep in mind, howe v er , that this Bluetooth stack has limited Bluetooth profi les support.
53 4. T o connect with y our Bluetooth device , simply right-click on the Bluetooth icon on the tra ybar and select Add a Bluetooth Device . 3. Optionally , you can fi nd this in Control P anel > Bluetooth Devices .
54 5. Make sure to set y our Bluetooth device in “disco verab le” mode and check the bo x as shown on the picture. 6. Y our computer will search for all the Bluetooth devices in y our area and list them. Select the desired device , and click Next.
55 7. Please consult the user manual f or your Bluetooth device to see if y ou need a P asskey to pair/establish a connection. 8. Y our Bluetooth device will then connect to the IOGEAR Bluetooth adapter . T o fi nish the process, simply click Finish .
