2 A NSWERING AN O UT SIDE C ALL EITHER, Lift the handset. OR, Press . OR, Press the flashing key . R EDIALING AN O UT SI DE N UMBER While on a call or after selecting a line, press . A line is selected auto- matically , and the number is dialed. P LACING A C ALL ON H OLD Press (Hold) and hang up or place another call.
3 T RA NSFERRING A C ALL TO AN O UTSIDE N UMBER 1. Press and select an outside line. 2. Dial the desired t elephone number . 3. W ait for an answer, announc e the call, and then hang up. If the number is busy , there is no answer , or the transfer is r efused, press the flashing key to return to the caller .
4 If your MSG key is not lit, access your mailbox by following these steps: 1. Dial the voice mail extension numb er . (Y ou hear the main menu.) 2. During or after the greeting, press to identify yourself as a subscriber . 3. Enter your mailbox number and your personal passwo rd (if programmed).

R EMOTE F EATURE A CCESS Remote Feature Access allows you to place your phone in Do-Not-Dist urb mode or f orward calls, either from another phone or through a special dial-up line. If you do not hear a tone af ter each step, or if you hear repeating ton es, you have made a mistake or the feature is restricted.

FINDING YOUR W A Y 3 Model 8520 Display Phone User Guide A BOUT Y OUR P HONE The buttons on your phone are called “keys, ” which is why the phone is sometimes called a “ Key set.” Y our phone has two basic types of keys in addition to a display and a Message Indicator lamp.
4 FINDING YOUR W A Y Model 8520 Display Phone User Guide Feature Key Functions The feature keys are designed to automa te some of the commonly-used functions, such as dialing an outside number . Each of these is described in the table below . In addition to the keys identified in th e preceding table, your phone has a Special key( ).
FINDING YOUR W A Y 5 Model 8520 Display Phone User Guide Display Y our Model 8520 Display Phone has two lines of display with 16 characters per line. When your phone is id le, this display shows your extens ion number , your username, the time of day , and th e date.
6 FINDING YOUR W A Y Model 8520 Display Phone User Guide Message Indicator Lamp The Message Indicator lamp (located at the top, right-hand co rner of the phone) shows the same indications as t he ke y . The Message Indicator lamp flashes whenever there is a waiting message.

GETTING ST ARTED 17 Model 8520 Display Phone User Guide If the phone is busy when you place an intercom call, you can do any of the fol- lowing: • T o stay on the line and wait for the phone to become available: D o not hang up. After a system timer expires, you hear music until the phone is available.

OR, Lift the handset for pr ivacy . T o receive a ringing (non -handsfr ee) intercom call: EITHER, Lift the handset for privacy .
GETTING ST ARTED 19 Model 8520 Display Phone User Guide Out side Calls W it h outside calls, y ou can talk to people who a ren’t members of your phon e system. When you make an outside call, however , you must dial any area codes or long dis- tance digits that your telephone company requires.

Depending on how your system is programmed, you may be able to use one of the following metho ds instead of pressing : • Press the flashing key , if you have one.

GETTING ST ARTED 23 Model 8520 Display Phone User Guide T RANSFERRING C ALLS Although transferring calls is considered a basic function of a phone, your Model 8520 Display Phone has many advanced opti ons for this feature. W ith your phone, you can transfer to another extension, voice mail, or even an outsid e line.
24 GETTING ST ARTE D Model 8520 Display Phone User Guide F ORWARDING C ALLS W ith the Forwarding feature, you can have calls follow you (e.g., forwarded to a cell phone), or you can redirect calls to a voice mail or other extension. Manual Call Forwarding Manual call forwarding allows you to send in coming calls to another extension num- ber .
GETTING ST ARTED 25 Model 8520 Display Phone User Guide Redirect Call NOTE: This feature is available only with ve rsions 5.3 and later Axxe ss software. The Redirect Call feature allows you to fo rward any call that is ringing on your phone without having to answer the call.

T o use the Last Number Dialed featur e (if enabled): W ith or without the handset lifted, press .
GETTING ST ARTED 27 Model 8520 Display Phone User Guide U SING A H EADSET W ith an electret headset, you can talk on the phone handsfree, without using your speaker and microphone. NOTE: If yo ur headset has a power-saver mode, make sure the System Administrator has the Headset Connect T one flag enabled in the telephone syste m.
28 GETTING ST ARTE D Model 8520 Display Phone User Guide U SING THE S PEAKER AND M ICROPHONE If you are not using a headset, you can talk handsfree using yo ur speaker and micro- phone. Y ou can also use the speakerphone for on-hook dialing, call monitoring, and background music.
GETTING ST ARTED 29 Model 8520 Display Phone User Guide Enhanced Speakerphone Mode The Enhanced Speakerphone Mode improves transmission quality while on a speak- erphone call over a limited volume level range (typical ly the range is 1 to 3).
30 GETTING ST ARTE D Model 8520 Display Phone User Guide U SING THE M ESSAGE K EY In today’ s bu sy world, it’ s almo st guaran teed that you will cal l someone that is on another call, does not answ er , or is in DN D. But, with the key , you can let the other person know you called .
GETTING ST ARTED 31 Model 8520 Display Phone User Guide Retrieving Messages T o retrieve a message (Message key and lamp are flashing): Lift the handset and press . A call is au tomatically placed to the phone or mes- sage center that left the message.
32 GETTING ST ARTE D Model 8520 Display Phone User Guide A CCESSING Y OUR M AILBOX If you have a message waiting in your mailbox, you must access your voice mailbox to retrieve it. TIP: Generally speaking, pressing during any voice mail op eration will advance you to the next step.
GETTING ST ARTED 33 Model 8520 Display Phone User Guide U SING V OICE M AIL M ESSAGES Once you’ve accessed you r mailbox, the system will tell you how many new an d saved messages you have. Y ou can then lis ten to messages, delete messages, save messages, etc.

GETTING ST ARTED 37 Model 8520 Display Phone User Guide Canceling Unheard Messages NOTE: This feature is available only in versio ns 5.1 and later Axxess software. Y ou ca n cancel un retrieved messa ges that you have sent to individuals, bu t not mes- sages that you sent to group lists.
38 GETTING ST ARTE D Model 8520 Display Phone User Guide U SING D O -N OT -D ISTURB M ODE If you are away from your d esk, or if you do no t want to be disturbed, you can use the DND feature. This halts all pages and ca lls to your phone, except queue callbacks, recalls, and di rect ring-in call s.

While logged in, t he agent receives calls through the ACD hunt gr oup. When the a gent is logged out, calls to that ACD hunt group bypass th e agent.

If the ACD Agent ID Automa tic Connect option is enabled for your hunt group and you are using a headset, you will be automatically connected.
