Introduction 20 Technical Overview In addition to replacing both a time-lap se VCR and a multiplexer in a security installation, your DVR has many features tha t make it much more powerful and easier to use than even the most advanced VCR. The DVR converts analog NTSC or PAL vide o to digital images and records th em on a hard disk drive.

Installation 24 Your DVR can be used with either NTSC or PAL equipment. Note You cannot mix NTSC and PAL equipment. For example, you cannot use a PAL camera and an NTSC monitor. Connecting th e Video Source Connect the coaxial cables from the vide o sources to the BNC Vi deo In connectors.
Installation Document 800-00918 Rev E 25 12/07 Connecting Audio Note It is the user's responsibility to determine if local laws and regulations permit recording audio. Your DVR can record audio from up to two sources. Connect the audio sources to Audio In 1 and Audio In 2 as needed using RCA jacks.

Installation 28 Note All the connectors marked GND are common. NC/NO (Relay Alarm Outputs) The DVR can activate external devices such as buzzers or lights. Connect the device to the C (Common) and NC (Normally Closed) or C and NO (Normally Open) connectors.

If the Bad message displays, it is recommended that you replace the hard disk driv e, usually within 24 hou rs.
Configuration 46 User Setup Screen The User setup screen displays the author ized groups and users. You can add and delete groups and users. When adding a gr oup, you can assign authority levels to the group. Highlight User in the System menu and press .

You can also change the group to which the user is assigned. Caution Write down the new password and save it i n a secu re plac e.

Note ADSL and modem cannot be configured at the same time. If the DVR is conf igured by mode m, the ADSL ( with PPPoE) can not be selected.

Note If the DVR is configured for DHCP or an ADSL network, the IP address of the DVR might change whenever the unit is turned on.
Configuration 56 Note If the RS-232C port is in use for remote cont rol, networking cannot be configured for a modem. DVRNS Setup Highlight the DVRNS tab in the Network screen. Highlight Save and press t o register the DVR on the DVRNS server. Proper DVRNS settings display the help desk information of the DVRNS server in the box beside Help Desk.

If it ha s not, please see Chapter 2, Installation and Chapter 3, Configuration . The DVR controls are si milar to a VCR. As with a VCR, the main functions are recording and playing back video.
