3 Important Operating Considerations • Place the projector in a horizontal position no gr eater than 15 degrees off axis. See “Positioning the pr ojector” on page 6. • Locate the projector in a well-ventilated ar ea without any obstructions to intake or exhaust vents.
4 Intr oduction Congratulations and thank you for your excellent choice of a superior digi- tal image projection device. Y our new ScreenPlay™ 7210 projector fr om InFocus ® is specifically designed for home cinema applications.
5 Connector P anel The projector pr ovides eight discreet video connectors: • two red-gr een-blue RCA (SD/ED/HD component) • two S-video •o n e c o m p o s i t e R C A • one M1-DA (HD, RGBHV ,.
6 P ositioning the projector There ar e a number of factors to cons ider when determining where to set up the projector , including the size and shape of your screen, the location of your power outlets, and the distance between the projector and the r est of your equipment.
7 Video connections Y ou can connect VCRs, DVD players, camcorders, digital cameras, video games, HDTV receivers, and TV tuners to the pr ojector . (Y ou cannot directly connect the coaxial cable that enters your house from a cable or satellite company; the signal must pass through a tuner first.
8 Connecting a video de vice If your video device has more than one output, select the highest quality one. DVI video has the best quality , followed by Component video, S-video, and then composite video.
9 Displa ying a video image Remove the lens cap. Press the Pow e r button on the top of the projector . The projector chimes if the chime featur e is enabled (page 30). The LED flashes green and the fans start to run. When the lamp comes on, the startup screen displays and the LED is steady gr een.
10 Adjust the zoom or focus rings by rotating them until the desir ed image size and sharpness are pr oduced. If the image is not square, adjust the keystone using the buttons on the key- pad.
11 Connecting a computer Connect either a VESA cable or M1 ca ble into the appropriate connector on the projector . Connect the other end to the video port on your computer . If you are using a desktop computer , you first need to disconnect the monitor cable from the computer ’s video port.
12 Shutting do wn the pr ojector Po w e r S a v e The projector has a Power Save featur e in the System menu that automati- cally turns the lamp off after no signals ar e detected for 20 minutes. After 10 additional minutes with no signal, the projector powers down.

20 Using the k e ypad buttons Most buttons are described in detail in other sections, but her e is an over- view of their functions: Po w e r –turns the projector on (page 9) and off (page 9). Menu –opens the on-screen menus (page 23). Select –confirms choices made in the menus (page 23).
21 Using the r emote contr ol The remote uses two (2) pr ovided AAA ba tteries. They are easily installed by sliding the cover off th e r emote’s back, aligning the + and - ends of the batteries, sliding them into place, and then replacing the cover .
22 Optimizing video imag es After the video device is connected properly and the image is on the scr een, you can optimize the image using the onscreen menus. For general informa- tion on using the menus, see page 23. • Change the Aspect ratio. Aspect rati o is the ratio of the image width to image height.
23 Using the menus T o open the menus, press the menu button on the keypad or r emote. (The menus automatically close after 60 seco nds if no buttons ar e pressed.) The Main menu appears. Use the arrow buttons to move up and down to high- light the desired submenu, then pr ess the Select button.
24 Picture menu T o adjust the following five settings, highlight the setting, press Select , use the up and down arrows to adjust the values, then pr ess select to confirm the changes. All menu defaults are listed in a table starting on page 38. Ke y s t o n e : adjusts the image vertically and horizontally to make a squarer image.
25 16:9 : the default is 16:9 , which preserves the 16:9 aspect ratio and is designed to be used with content th at is Enhanced for W idescr een TVs. 4:3 : resizes the image fr om its original version to fit a standard 4:3 aspect ratio screen.
26 Presets : This allows you to customize settings and save the settings to be restor ed later . T o restore the factory default settings, choose Factory Reset in the Settings>Ser vice menu. T o set a preset for the curr ent so urce, adjust the image, select Sa v e Settings in the Presets menu, then choose Save User 1, 2, or 3.
27 Advanced settings The following 4 options are for computer or HDTV sour ces only . Phase : adjusts the phase of the vide o signal’s digital conversion. Tr a c k i n g : adjusts the frequency of the video signal’s digital conversion. Horizontal/V ertical P osition : adjusts the position of the sour ce.
28 Color Space : This option applies to comput er and HDTV sources (it won’t appear in the menu for video sources). It allows you to select a color space that has been specifically tuned for the video input. When Auto is selected, the projector automatically determines the standar d.
29 Settings menu Sources : allows you to assign a particular input to a specific sour ce key on the remote and enables or disables Au tosour ce. When Autosource is not checked, the projector defaults to the la st-used sour ce. If no source is found, a blank screen displays.
30 Tr a n s l u c e n t O S D : makes the menus translucent. This prevents the image from being completely cover ed by the menus while you are making image adjustments. Chime : turn this on to he ar a sound when the Po w e r button is pressed. Sleep Timer : allows you to force the pr ojector to automatically shutoff after 4 hours.
31 Ser vice : to use these featur es, highlight them and press Select . Factory Reset : restor es all settings (excep t Lamp Hours) to their default after displaying a confirmation dialog box. Te s t P a t t e r n : displays a test pattern when the Blank button on the r emote is pressed.
32 Replacing the pr ojection lamp The lamp hour timer in the About me nu counts the number of hours the lamp has been in use. T wenty hours before the lamp life expires, the mes- sage “Change lamp” appears on the screen at startup. If the maximum lamp time is exceeded, the lamp will not lig ht.
33 WA R N I N G S : • T o avoid burns, allow the projector to cool for at least 60 minutes befor e you replace the lamp . • Do not drop the lamp module. The glass may shatter and cause injury . • Do not touch the glass lamp screen. Fingerprints can obscur e projection sharpness.
