5 Connec tor P a nel The pr ojector pr ovides two computer and four video connectors: • one M1-D/ A (HD, DVI, and computer) • one VES A (HD, HD c omponent, a nd computer) • one S-vi deo •o n e c o m p o s i t e R C A •o n e c o m p o n e n t v i d e o It al so has an RS-232 seri al con nector for s erial con trol.
6 P ositioning the projector Ther e ar e a number of factors to consider when det ermining wher e to set up the proj ector , including the s ize and shape of your scr een, the location of your power outlets, and the distance between the proj ector and the rest of your equipment.
7 Video connections Y ou can connect VCRs, DVD player s, camcorders, digital camera s, video ga m e s , H DT V re c e i ve r s , a n d T V t un e r s t o th e p ro j e c to r. ( Y ou c a n no t d i re c t ly connect the coax ial cable that ent ers your ho use fr om a cab le or sate llite company; th e signal must pass through a tuner fir st.
8 Connecting a video de vi ce If you r video device has mor e tha n one output, select the h ighest qual ity one. DVI vide o has the best quality , followed by Comp onent video, S-video, and then compos ite video.
9 Displaying a video image Remove the lens cap. Pr ess the Po w e r button on the top of the project or or the remote. The fan s start to run. When the l amp comes o n, the star tup screen is di s- played. It can take a minute for the image t o achieve ful l brightness .
10 Adjust the zoom or focus rin gs by rotating t hem until the desired image size and fo cus are p roduced. If the image is not squar e, adj ust the vert ical keystone usi ng the butt ons on the keypad.
11 Connecting a computer Connect either a VESA cable or M1 cable into the appr opriate conne ctor on the projector ( Ve s a 1 o r D V I 2 ). Connect the other end to the video port on your computer . If you are using a des ktop computer , you first need to dis- connect the monitor cable f rom the computer ’s video port.
12 Shutting do wn the projector The projector automatica lly blanks th e screen after n o active source is detected for 3 0 minutes. This blank scr een helps pr eserve th e life of the pr o- jector . The image r eturns wh en an active source is detected or a remote or keypad b utton is pr esse d.

19 Using the k e ypad buttons Most bu ttons ar e descr ibed in det ail in ot her sections , but h ere is an over- view of the ir functio ns: pow er –turns the projector on (page 9) and of f (page 12). menu –op ens the on-scr een menus (pag e 23). select –confirms choic es made in t he menus (page 23).
20 Using the remote contr ol The r emote uses two (2 ) provided AAA batteries . They ar e easily installed by slidi ng the c over of f the r emote’s back, aligning the + an d - ends of the batteries , slidin g them into place, and then r eplacin g the cover .
21 Using the audio T o play sound from the projector , connect yo ur source to the Au dio In con- nector on the pr ojector . T o adjust t he volume, mute or turn off the projecto r ’s chime, use the Audio menu (see page 28). T roublesh ooting au dio If there is no sound, check the follow ing: • Make sur e the au dio cables ar e connected.
22 Customizing the pr ojec tor Y ou can customize th e projector for your specific s etup and needs. See page 28 to page 3 1 for d etails on th ese fe ature s. • For r ear pr ojection, turn Rear mode on in the Settings>System menu. • For ce iling mou nted proj ection, tu rn Ceiling mode on in the Set- tings>Syst em menu.
23 Using the menus T o open the menus, press the Menu button on the keypad or remote. (The menus a utomatically close after 6 0 second s if no butt ons are pressed. ) The Main menu appears. Use the arrow buttons to move up and down to high - light t he desir ed subme nu, then pr ess the Selec t button.
24 Picture menu T o adj ust the fol lowing six settings, highl ight the setting, press Se lec t , use the up an d down ar rows to adjust th e values, the n press select to confi rm the c hanges. Ve r t i c a l K e y s t o n e : adju sts the i mage v erticall y and m akes a squ ar er image .
25 16:9 : the default is 16 :9 , wh ich pr eserv es the 16:9 as pect rat io and is designed t o be used with content that is Enhanced for W ide screen TVs . 4:3 : resiz es the im age fr om its o riginal vers ion to fit a sta ndar d 4:3 aspect ratio scr een.
26 Presets : Y ou can cus tomiz e the set tings for e ach sour ce and sa ve t hem a s a preset . There ar e thr ee user -definable pr esets. T o set a pr eset for the current source, adjust the ima ge, then choose Save User 1, 2, or 3. Y ou can recall these sett ings in the fut ure by selecting the appropri ate user pr esets.
27 Advanced settings Sharpness : (v ideo sources only ) changes the clarity of the edges of a vide o image. Select a s harpness s etting. Color S pace : This option applies to computer sources. It allows you to select a color spa ce that ha s been spec ifically tuned for th e video input .
28 Settings menu Audio : allow s adjus tments to the volum e and mute, and tur ns the pr ojec- tor ’s startup Chime on and off. Sources : al lows you to assign a particu lar input to a s pecific sour ce ke y on the r emote. 32 Replacing the pr ojection lamp The lamp hour timer in the About menu counts the number of hours the lamp ha s been in us e. When the la mp timer r eaches t he estimate d total lam p life, the LED o.
33 • Be extr emely careful whe n removing the lamp housing. In the unlikely event that the lamp rupt ures, sma ll glass fragment s may be gener ated. The lamp module is d esigned to contain mo st of these fr agments, b ut use caution when removing it.
34 Cleaning the dust filters In dirt y or dusty envir onment s, the dus t filters can bec ome clogge d, causing high tempe ratures i nside the lamp mod ule.
