1 Chapter 1 Description The AT-FS20x and AT-FS202SC/FSx Seri es Switches include the following models: The AT-FS20x Series switches are design ed to extend the distance of your network by converting Fas t Ethernet data between twisted-pair cabling and either multimode or single -mode fiber optic cabling.

AT-FS20x Series Installation Guide 5 Twisted-Pair Port The AT-FS20x and AT-FS202SC/FSx Se ries switches have one 10Base-T/ 100Base-TX twisted-pair port. The twis ted-pair port features an RJ-45 connector. Port Speed The twisted-pair port is compliant with the 10Base-T and 10Base-TX standards and is capable of either 10 Mb ps or 100 Mbps operation.
Description 6 The twisted-pair port on the switch can operated in either half- o r full-duplex mode. You can set the duplex mode manu ally or allow the switch to set it automatically through Auto-Negotiation . With Auto-Negotia tion, if the end- node is capable of full-duplex mode, the twisted-pair port is set automatically to full-duplex mode.

Description 8 Store and Forward The AT-FS20x switches suppo rt store and forwa rd switching at Fa st Ethernet full-wire speed in 100 Mbps, half- or fu ll-duplex mode. Pack ets entering each port are stored in buffers. Once the pack et is re ceived, the switch forwards or discards the packet, depe nding on its destination address and error status.

11 Chapter 2 Installing the Switch This chapter explains how to inst all an AT-FS20x and AT-FS202S C/FSx Series switches. These sw itches can be installed on a des ktop or in an AT-MCR12 chassis. The procedures pr ovided in this chapter are for installation on a desktop.
Installing the Switch 12 Planning the Installation Be sure to observe the foll owing guidelines when plan ning the installation of your switch. ❑ The end-node connected to the 100Ba se -FX fiber optic port must be able to operate at 100 Mbps.

When setting the DIP switches consider the following: ❑ Setting the Auto Neg DIP switch for the twisted-pair port to ON or OFF enables or disables auto-negotia tion for the port.
Installing the Switch 16 Caution After you change the speed or duplex mode of the switch, you must power cycle (shut down and restart) the sw itch for the new set tings to take affect. 4. Place the switch on a secure, level surface, leaving ample space around the switch for ventilation.

19 Chapter 3 Troubleshooting Follow the guidelines bel ow to test and troubleshoot the in stallati on in the event a problem occurs. Note Whenever the speed and/or duplex mode are changed during or after power ON, power O FF then power back ON the switch to load the new configuration.
Troubleshooting 20 ❑ Make sure that the twisted-pair ca ble does not exceed 100 meters (328 feet) and that you are using a Catego ry 3 or better cable for 10Base-T operation or a Category 5 or better cable for 100Bas e-TX operation.
