Page 4 of 47 ABOUT THIS BOOK This book is intended to explain how to install and use the IBM Multimedia Modem Plus. You should have some experience with installing adapters in computers and be f amiliar with using the operating system on your computer before attempting to install this product.

Refer to the documentation that come s with y our computer and your devices to find a setting that you can use for the Multimedia Modem Plus. F or example, for COM port or IRQ conflicts, check your computer manual to find an unused COM port and IRQ p ai r.
Page 12 of 47 6. When the config uration is complete and all test have succ essfully complete d: Record the configuration information. You will need it if you plan to install Multimedia Modem Plus under OS/2 Warp and Windows in the same computer. a. Select EXIT, and press ENTER to end the confi guration program and save your configured settings.
Page 13 of 47 INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE UNDER OS/2 WARP NOTE: The Multimedia Modem Plus software only supports OS/2 Warp Version 3.0 or higher. NOTE: If you are upgrading f rom the Multimedia Mode m or have any other Mwave software installed in your computer, you must remove the old Mwave software to avoid conflicts with the new Mwave software.
Page 14 of 47 6. Click on OK to install the Mwave software in the default director y or type a new director y and click on OK. If the director y is not on y our hard disk drive, click on YES to cr eate it or click on NO and t ype another directory name.
Page 15 of 47 CONFIGURING YOUR MULTIMEDIA MODEM PLUS FOR OS/2 W ARP The configuration prog ram CONFIGO.EXE is used to configure the Multimedia Modem Plus. To configure the Multimedia Modem Plus for OS/2 Warp: 1. Open a DOS full scre en session from the OS/2 De sktop.
Page 16 of 47 7. If your operating s y stem restarts without error, proc eed to " Updating the MMPM/2 for Multimedia Modem Plus ." If errors occur: Refer to the documentation that comes with your computer and your existing devices to find an unused setting that you can use for the Multimedia Modem Plus adapter.
Page 17 of 47 UPDATING THE MMPM/2 FOR MULT IMEDIA MODEM PLUS NOTE: Record the configuration information.. You can get this information by running CONFIGO.EXE from a DOS full scr een session. At this point in your installation you must update the I BM Multimedia Presentation Manager/2 for use with your Multimedia Modem Plus.

Follow this procedure to verify the operating system settings for the WIN-OS/2 program.

Page 20 of 47 6. To start the setup program, type: A:SETUP Click on OK or press ENTER. 7. Click on the Uninstall icon to r emove the Multimedia Modem Plus software from your computer. Page 21 of 47 USING VO ICE , F A X A ND D A T A The Multimedia Modem Plus allows you to use your telephone to control voice, fax , and data from yo ur computer. It uses the Mwave Discr iminator to automatica lly identify and route your incoming telephone calls to a call-handler pro gram.
Page 22 of 47 SETTING MWAVE DISCRIMINATOR OPTIONS You control the func tions the discriminator performs by the options you set fr om the Mwave Discriminator Window. NAVIGATE: From the Multime dia Modem, go to Mwave Discriminator and click on OPTIONS. The Mwave Discriminator Window displa ys.

Page 24 of 47 DISCRIMINATOR SETTINGS You can specify and control several disc riminator functions such a s: • Area code If you set the defaul t area cod e to your local area code, do not enter the are a code for loc al numbers in the Caller ID database.
Page 25 of 47 USING IBM W A KE-UP ON RING To use Wake-Up on Ring, your computer must have the Rapid Resume and Wake-Up on Ring capabilitie s. See the documentation tha t comes with your computer if you have any questions.
Page 26 of 47 3. Click on DIAL on the tool bar to place a telephone call. 4. Type the telephone number, then click on OK. The modems negotiate a connection and your session is connected through the data modem and through the speakerphones. 5. Use your session to talk and send data files.
Page 27 of 47 USING THE MW A VE MO DEM COMMAND REFERENCE Information about modem commands (AT codes) and S-registers c an be accessed from the modem help windows. You may want to use this information to send modem commands rather than using the modem functions provided with QuickLink Message Center On-Line.
Page 28 of 47 SELECTING THE INPUT SOURCE You can control the input source the Multimedia Modem Plus uses. If y ou do not specif y the input source, you will not get any output audio signal. Click on the input source name or empty blank next to each one to select it.
Page 29 of 47 ADDING SPECIAL AUDIO EFFECTS With CD-quality digital sound controls, you can enhance the audio signal output. The Chorus creates a unified sound echo.
Page 30 of 47 PLAYING A CD You provide the application to play or record audio sounds, such as the Media Pla yer in your Accessories pro gram group or folder. When pla ying a CD, you should verify th e following, as needed: 1. Ensure that your CD-ROM is properl y installed and the audio cable connected.

You can use the Image Viewer to open JP EG files produced b y dig ital cameras or down loaded from an online service.
