English – 3 INTR ODUCTION Dear Customer , Thank y ou f or choosing a Husqvarna Rider . Husqvarna Riders are built to a unique design with a front-mounted cutting unit and a patented rear-wheel steering system. Riders are designed for maximum efficiency e ven in small or confined areas.

14 – English PRESENT A TION Cutting unit Rider 11 C, 13 C, 16 A WD and 16 C hav e a 3-blade Combi- unit The Combi-unit, equipped with a Mulching-plug, finely chops the cuttings to f er tiliser . Without the Mulching-plug the unit works in the same wa y as a rear ejection unit.
English – 15 PRESENT A TION Release le ver Rider 13 C, Rider 16 C The release control must be pulled out in order f or the machine to be mov ed when the engine is shutoff . Pull the controls to the end positions, do not use an intermediate position.
16 – English Driving Bef ore star ting • Read the saf ety instructions and information concer ning the placement of controls and functions bef ore star ting. • P erform daily maintenance before starting as set out in the Maintenance schedule. Adjust the seat to the required position.
English – 17 Driving With a warm engine: 6 Mov e the throttle in between positions 1 and 2. 7 T ur n the ignition k ey to the start position. 8 When the engine star ts release the ignition ke y immediately back to neutr al position. 9 Push the choke le ver gradually f orward when the engine has star ted.
18 – English Driving Driving the Rider 1 Release the parking brake b y first pressing down the parking brake pedal and then releasing it. 2 For Rider 13 C, Rider 16 A WD and Rider 16 C Carefully press down one of the pedals until the required speed is obtained.
English – 19 Driving • The best lawns are achie ved if the grass is cut often. Mowing becomes more unif or m and the grass cuttings become more e venly distributed o v er the surface . The total time consumption is not greater since it is possib le to select a higher driving speed without inferior mowing results.
20 – English Maintenance Maintenance sc hedule The f ollowing is a list of the maintenance which should be conducted on the machine. F or those points not descr ibed in this manual, visit an authorised ser vice workshop . 1) First change after 5 hours.
English – 21 Maintenance Cleaning Clean the machine directly after use. It is much easier to w ash off grass cuttings bef ore they dr y . Oily dir t can be remov ed using a cold degreasing agent. Spra y on a thin la yer . Rinse at normal water pressure.
22 – English Maintenance 1 Remov e the frame plate b y loosening the screws (2) and lift the frame plate b y the rear edge. 2 Check the tension of the steering wires by squeezing them together by the arro ws as illustrated.
English – 23 Maintenance Adjusting the parking brake Rider 16 A WD Chec k that the parking brak e is adjusted correctly by placing the machine on a slope with the front and rear axles disengaged. Apply and lock the parking brake . When the machine does not stand still, the parking brake should be adjusted according to the f ollowing.
24 – English Maintenance 4 Lift out the air filter car tridge from the fan housing. 5 Replace the air filter car tridge, if clogged with dir t. 6 Carefully lift the precleaner out of the f an housing. 7 Carefully clean the f an housing so that dir t does not f all down into the carb urettor .
English – 25 Maintenance Chec k the level of the battery acid Check that the le vel of the battery acid lies between the markings. T op up the cells with distilled water only . Ignition system The engine is equipped with an electronic ignition system.
26 – English Maintenance Chec k the safety system The machine is equipped with a saf ety system that prev ents star ting or dr iving under the f ollowing conditions . The engine should only be possible to start when the cutting unit is in its raised position and the gear shift lev er or hydrostat pedals are in the neutral position.

28 – English Maintenance Chec king the engine’ s cooling air intake Clean the air intake g rille in the engine cover behind the driver’ s seat. Open the engine cov er .
English – 29 Maintenance 3 Loosen the parallelism sta y’ s nuts, the inner nut has a left- hand thread. 4 Screw out (e xtend) the stay to raise the rear edge of the cov er . Screw in (shor ten) the stay to lo wer the rear edge of the cov er . 5 Tighten the nuts after adjustment.
30 – English Maintenance 7 Grip the front edge of the unit and pull forw ards until it stops. 8 Lift the unit until it stops and a clicking sound is heard. 9 The unit locks automatically in the vertical position. Restoring fr om service position 1 Grip the front edge of the unit and loosen the lock, f old down and slide in the unit.
English – 31 Lubrication Chec king the engine’ s oil le vel. Check the oil le vel in the engine when the Rider stands horizontal with the engine s witched off. Open the engine cov er . Loosen the dipstick, pull it up and wipe it off . The dipstick should be completely scre wed down Pull the dipstick out again and read the oil le vel.
32 – English Lubrication Rider 16 A WD Check that there is oil in the tr ansmission’ s oil tank. Fill if necessar y with engine oil SAE 10W/40 (class SF–CC). The oil and filter should be changed by an authorised service representative , as described in the Workshop Manual.

34 – English Storage Winter stora ge At the end of the season, or if the machine is going to stand idle f or more than 30 days , it should immediately be made ready f or storage. Fuel which is left to stand f or long periods (30 da ys or more) can leav e tacky deposits which can b lock the carburettor and interf ere with the engine.
