G1017 12'' P or table Planer -9- Clean up Site Considerations The Model G1017 is designed to be por table. There are handles on both sides of the planer to aid in lifting and moving. Before mo ving the plan- er , fold the depth control handle do wn, the e xten- sion wings up and ensure that the pow er cord is disconnected.
-10- G1017 12'' P or table Planer SECTION 4: ASSEMBL Y W ooden Base The wooden base yields greater stability and enables the planer to be f astened to a sturdy bench or floor when planing long stock. T o con- struct the wooden base pieces: 1.
G1017 12'' P or table Planer -11- SECTION 5: CONTR OLS On-Off Switch The on-off s witch is located on the front of the planer . See Figure 4. The s witch has a ke y which, when remov ed, allows the s witch to be lock ed in the “off ” position.

-14- G1017 12'' P or table Planer Knife Setting The G1017 Planer is equipped with a 2 blade cut- terhead. The blades are set b y adjustable scre ws and are lock ed in position by wedge type gibs . Disconnect the pow er cord from the power source bef ore adjusting or removing the kniv es.
G1017 12'' P or table Planer -15- T o install and adjust the kniv es: 1. T urn lev eling scre ws cloc kwise so the knif e will be set low in the cutterhead using the sock et head wrench provided. 2. Inser t knife and loosened gib into the cut- terhead.
-16- G1017 12'' P or table Planer SECTION 7: OPERA TIONS Once assembly is complete and adjustments are done to your satisf action, y ou are ready to test the machine. Mak e cer tain you ha v e remov ed any tools or gauges used in the adjustment or assem- bly process from the bed of the planer .

-18- G1017 12'' P or table Planer Pitch & Glue Build-up - Glue and resin b uild-up on the rollers and cutterhead will cause ov er- heating by decreasing cutting sharpness while increasing drag in the f eed mechanism. The result can include scorched lumber as well as une v en knif e marks and chatter .
G1017 12'' P or table Planer -19- SECTION 8: MAINTENANCE Lubrication Since all bearings are shielded and per manently lubricated, simply leav e them alone until the y need to be replaced.
-20- G1017 12'' P or table Planer This motor is equipped with long lif e carbon brushes. How e ver , brush life e xpectancy is affect- ed by motor loading. Planing very wide, dense boards or cutting too deep will reduce brush life . Check brushes after e v ery ten to fifteen hours of operation.
G1017 12'' P or table Planer -21- Feed Roller s The f eed rollers rotate in b ushing bloc ks that are spring-loaded. The f eed rollers ride up on the board so roller pressure is maintained. If chips or sawdust b uild up between the brack et and b ush- ing bloc k, the amount of roller ver tical trav el will be reduced.
