3 Intr oduction Y our GE/Skype phone may change the way you think about using your telephone, and using Skype. Y ou can use your GE/Skype phone to make and receiv e both landline and Skype calls. And, because Skype is built into your GE/Skype phone, you no longer need a com- puter to use Skype.

9 T elephone Jack Requirements T o use this phone with a landline, you need an RJ11C type modular telephone jack , which might look like the one pictur ed here, installed in y our home. If you don’t have a modular jack , call your local phone company to find out how to get one installed.

13 2. Plug one end of the telephone line cord into the jack on the back of the base/gateway and the other end into a modular jack . NO TE: Landline connection is not necessar y for Skype usage. IMP OR T ANT NOTE: Emer gency calls via the landline are only possible if pow er is applied to the base station and the landline is properly connected.
14 First Time Star t Up Y ou must complete the following steps the first time you use your GE/Skype phone. Start by turning on the handset; press and hold the button until the handset powers on. 1. Find your pr eferred language using or , then pr ess to select a language.
15 Getting Start ed with Skype Y ou can configure your GE/Sk ype phone with an existing Skype account during the first-time installation, or you can optionally create a new Sk ype account . Y ou only need a Skype username and passwor d defined by you to cr eate a new account .

25 Skype Settings In order to adjust the settings in the following Sk ype menus, you must have a Skype account configur ed and be online. Sign into Skype 1. From the idle screen , pr ess to enter the Sign in menu. 2. Use to select to select Sign in to Skype .

28 Request Contact Details Y ou can send an authorization request to a Skype user – and if it is accepted, you can see his or her online status. When adding a contact to your Contact list y ou will be prompted to specify if y ou want to send an authorization r equest .

Y ou will receive an authorization request whenev er a Skype user adds you to his or her Contact list . By accepting the request , you allow the user to see your online status.
