IMPORT ANT SAFETY INFORMA TION SPECIAL NOTES ABOUT MICROWAVING Arcing is the microwave term for sparks in the oven. Arcing is caused by: • The temperature probe in the microwave but not inserted in the food. • The metal shelf not installed correctly so it touches the microwave wall.
7 • Avoid heating baby food in glass jars, even with the lid off. Make sure all infant food is thoroughly cooked. Stir food to distribute the heat evenly. Be careful to prevent scalding when warming formula or breast milk. The container may feel cooler than the milk really is.
IMPORT ANT SAFETY INFORMA TION SPECIAL NOTES ABOUT MICROWAVING Make sure all cookware used in your microwave oven is suitable for microwaving. Most glass casseroles, cooking dishes, measuring cups, custard cups, pottery or china dinnerware which does not have metallic trim or glaze with a metallic sheen can be used.
9 • Use foil only as directed in this manual. TV dinners may be microwaved in foil trays less than 3/4 ² high; remove the top foil cover and return the tray to the box. When using foil in the microwave oven, keep the foil at least 1 inch away from the sides of the oven.

Operating Instructions Variable power levels add flexibility to microwave cooking. The power levels on the microwave oven can be compared to the surface units on a range. High (power level 10) or full power is the fastest way to cook and gives you 100% power.
15 Time Features T ime Cook I Allows you to microwave for any time up to 99 minutes and 99 seconds. Power level 10 (High) is automatically set, but you may change it for more flexibility. You may open the door during Time Cook to check the food. Close the door and press START to resume cooking.

Power level 3 is automati- cally set, but you may change this for more flexi- bility. You may defrost small items more quickly by raising the power level after entering the time.

Auto Feature 21 Auto Defrost The Defrost Auto/Time feature gives you two ways to defrost frozen foods. Press DEFROST AUTO/TIME once for Auto Defrost or twice for Time Defrost. Use Auto Defrost for meat, poultry and fish. Use Time Defrost for most other frozen foods.
Operating Instructions Temperature Features 22 The T emperature Probe NOTE: The turntable will not turn when the probe is in use. The temperature probe is a food thermometer that monitors the temperature of the food. The probe must be used when using Temp Cook or Roast.
23 Thr ee Ways to Use the T emp Cook/Roast Feature 1 Y ou set the temperature you want. Press TEMP COOK/ ROAST once. This is good for foods such as soups, casseroles and beverages. 2 T emperature is automatically selected for cooking roasts medium or well.
Operating Instructions Temperature Features 24 How to Use the Probe with the Roast Settings 1 Insert the probe in the roast and attach it securely in the oven wall. 2 Roast Medium—Press TEMP COOK/ROAST twice. Roast Well—Press TEMP COOK/ROAST three times.
25 How to Use the Probe to Simmer The Simmer feature heats food to 180°F. and holds it at that temperature up to 12 hours or until you remove it and press CLEAR/OFF. 1 Insert the temperature probe into the food, resting it on the side of the dish. Attach it securely in the oven wall.
Operating Instructions Sensor Features 26 • The proper containers and covers are essential for best sensor cooking. • Always use microwave- safe containers and cover them with lids or vented plastic wrap. Never use tight sealing plastic containers—they can prevent steam from escaping and cause food to overcook.
27 How to Use the Popcorn Feature 1 Follow package instructions, using Time Cook if the package is less than 1.75 ounces or larger than 3.5 ounces. Place the package of popcorn in the center of the microwave. 2 Press POPCORN. The oven starts immediately.
Operating Instructions Sensor Features 28 How to Change the Automatic Settings T o reduce time by 10%: Press 1 after the feature pad. T o add 10% to cooking time: Press 9 after the feature pad. How to Use the Reheat Feature 1 Place covered food in the oven.
V egetable, Potato, Fish, Chicken Pieces, Ground Meats 1 Place covered food in the oven. Press the food pad. (For vegetables, press the VEGETABLE pad once for fresh vegetables, twice for frozen vegetables, or three times for canned vegetables.) The oven starts immediately.
Operating Instructions Other Features The MESSAGE pad allows you to record a short spoken message. 1 Press MESSAGE. 2 Speak toward the control panel in a clear, normal voice. 3 Press MESSAGE again to save the message immediately or allow the time to count down to save it automatically.
The HELP pad displays feature information and helpful hints. Press HELP, then select a feature pad. Help Cooking Complete Reminder Press to enter the time of day or to check the time of day while microwaving. 1 Press CLOCK. 2 Enter time of day. 3 Select AM or PM.

33 In addition to starting many functions, START/PAUSE allows you to stop cooking without opening the door or clearing the display. Start/Pause The Reminder feature can be used like an alarm clock and can be used at any time, even when the oven is operating.

Press VENT FAN once for high fan speed, twice for low fan speed or a third time to turn the fan off. V ent Fan You may lock the control panel to prevent the microwave from being accidentally started or used by children.
35 Press SURFACE LIGHT once for bright light, twice for the night light or three times to turn the light off. Sur face Light The beeper sound level can be adjusted. Press BEEPER VOLUME. Choose 0–3 for mute to loud. Beeper V olume You can set the night light to turn on and off automatically at any time you want.

38 Helpful Information Microwave Terms Arcing Arcing is the microwave term for sparks in the oven. Arcing is caused by: • the temperature probe staying in the oven but not inserted in the food. • the metal shelf being installed incorrectly and touching the microwave walls.
39 Care and Cleaning Open the oven door a few minutes after cooking to air out the inside. An occasional thorough wiping with a solution of baking soda and water keeps the inside fresh. NOTE: Be certain the power is off before cleaning any part of this oven.
Helpful Information Care and Cleaning 40 Case Clean the outside of the microwave with a sudsy cloth. Rinse and then dry. Wipe the window clean with a damp cloth. Contr ol Panel and Door Wipe with a damp cloth. Dry thoroughly. Do not use cleaning sprays, large amounts of soap and water, abrasives or sharp objects on the panel—they can damage it.
41 Light Bulb Replacement 1 To replace the bulb(s), first disconnect the power at the main fuse or circuit breaker panel or pull the plug. 2 Remove the screw at the front of the light cover and lower the cover. 3 Be sure the bulb(s) to be replaced are cool before removing.
Helpful Information The Exhaust Feature 42 The vent fan has 2 metal reusable grease filters. Models that recirculate air back into the room also use a charcoal filter. The Exhaust Feature 43 If the model is not vented to the outside, the air will be recirculated through a disposable charcoal filter that helps remove smoke and odors. The charcoal filter should be replaced when it is noticeably dirty or dis- colored (usually after 6 to 12 months, depending on hood usage).
