40 Chapter 4: Installing Co mponents www .gatew a y .com Installing PCI expansion car ds A PCI expansion car d (sometimes c alled an add-in car d ) is a card used in the serv er to add functionality to the system. Use the following procedure to replace, add, or reseat an expansion card.

Y ou can slightly sees aw the card end-to-end to loo sen the card, but do not bend the card sideways. 6 While holding th e retention cover open, press the new ca rd into the expansion slot.
42 Chapter 4: Installing Co mponents www .gatew a y .com Replacing the pr ocessor Y our serv er is co mpatible with the Int el ® Pentium ® 4 or Intel ® Cele ron ® processor . The server automaticall y de tects the processor each time yo u turn on the server .
43 Replaci ng the process or www .gatew a y .com 4 Unplug the heat sink’ s cooling fan fro m the system board. 5 Press down on the heat sink locking lever on ea ch side, pu sh them slightly away from the heat sink, then l ift the levers out of the way .
44 Chapter 4: Installing Co mponents www .gatew a y .com 7 Press down on the processor locking leve r , push it sligh tly away from the processor , then rotate the lever straight up to release the processor . 8 Remove t he old processor . 9 Install the new processor into the proc essor slot.

52 Chapter 4: Installing Co mponents www .gatew a y .com Replacing the CMOS batter y If the server clock does not keep ti me or the settings in the BIOS Setup utility are not saved when you turn off the ser ver , replace the CMOS batter y with an equivalent battery .
53 Replaci ng the CMOS batter y www .gatew a y .com 8 Place the edge of a small fl at-head screwdriver under the battery and lift the battery up until it c omes out of the socket. 9 Make sure that the positive (+ ) side of the new battery is facing up, then press the new battery into the socket until it snaps into place.

57 Updating the BIOS www .gatew a y .com Updating the BIOS If you need a new version o f the BIOS, you can download the BIOS upd ate from Gateway , then i nstall the new version from a di skette. T o update the BIOS: 1 Print the appendix for BIOS Settings in this guide.
