Preface 1 Y ou have purchased the XG700, a co mpact, 12 port 10 Gigabit Ethernet layer 2 switch that achieves unsurpassed standards of high throughput and low-latency performance. This manual explains the procedure s required to install your XG700 and shoul d be read and understood before you start using your XG700.

12 Instal lation • XG700 The XG700 itself. • Power Cord A 3-pin cable to connect the XG700 to a power supply. • Seria l Cross Cable A cable to connect the XG700 to a PC whe n the settings need to be adju sted. 1-1 Part s List Before proceeding, check that all of the following parts were included in your XG700 package.
Part s List 13 1 • Rack Mounting Brackets Brackets for mountin g the XG700 in a ra ck. Attach each rack mounting bracket to the right and left sides of the XG700, and fasten to the rack posts with the rack screws (large). • Rack Mounting Bracket BR A bracket for mounting the XG700 in a rack.
14 Instal lation The following explains the names and functions of the compon ents at the front of th e XG700. • Power LED (Green) Lights when the XG700 is receiving power. • Alarm LED (Orange) Lights when there is a problem with the XG7 00. • Status LED (Green) Lights when the XG700 is in an operable state.
XG700 Components 15 1 The following explains the names and functions of the components at the rear of the XG700. • Power Switch Used to turn the XG700 on/off. • Power Supply Unit Supplies power to the XG700 (includes an exhaust fan). - Power Supply LED (Green/Orange) Green LED lights when the XG700 is on.
16 Instal lation There are three main in dicator LEDs o n the front of the XG700: Pow er LED, Alarm LED, and Status LED. The following explains th e LED display under various conditions.
Labels 17 1 Obey the following warning: 1-3 Labels A warning sticker , product nameplate, product ID label, and MAC la bel are to be found in various places on the XG700.

Inst allation Procedure 21 2 Before insta lling the XG700, read " For Safe Use of the XG700 (P.2)" and compl y with the installation requi rements described below. When installing the XG700, a certain amo unt of installation space is necessary.
22 In stallation and Operation Only use the XG700 under th e temperature, humid ity and other environmental conditions specified in "A.2 Installation Specifi cations (P.36)". Usin g the XG 700 outside the follow ing ranges can shorten the lifetime or cause the failure of the XG700.
Inst allation Procedure 23 2 The following explains how to install the XG7 00 in a 19-inch rack. 1. Take the XG700 out of its box. 2. Fix the cage nuts and rails to the rack posts.

Inst allation Procedure 25 2 3. Fix the four rack mounting brackets to the XG700. Each of the four rack moun ting bracket s (left, right, back-left, back-righ t) has th ree holes that should line up with matching holes on the sides of the XG7 00, as shown in the diagram.
26 In stallation and Operation 5. This completes the rack installation procedure. The following explains how to unin stall the XG700 from a rack. 1. Undo the rack screws that were used to fasten the XG700 to the rack. 2. Slide the XG700 forward, and remove it from the rack.
Cable Connection 27 2 The cables need to be connected to the XG700 Xenpak modu les. 1. Connect the cables to the XG700. Connect the cables to the Xenpak modules (Port 1 - Port 12) on the front of XG700.
28 In stallation and Operation After connecting the peripheral units, connect the XG700 powe r cords. W ARNING • Do not touch the power plug with wet hands, as there is a risk of electric shock. • Do not damage or re model the power cords, as this may cause elec tric shock or fire.
Cable Connecti on 29 2 2. Connect the power cord to the power outlet. Insert the plug at the other end of the power cord into the power strip or wall socket. W ARNING • Unplug the XG700 durin g thunder-storms. Continued use under these c onditions risks lightning damage to the XG700, and may cause a fire.
30 In stallation and Operation CAUTION Do not move, shock, or vibrate the XG700 while it is on. 1. Turn the power switch to the "on" position by pressing the [ ] side. The Power LED (Green) on the front of the XG700 should turn on. The Alarm LED (Orange) should turn on for a moment, then should turn off.

[Cause] Possible ca uses: 1 Loose cable, or 2 Hardware failure [Action] 1 Check that all cabl es are connected pro per ly, then (if the XG700 still doesn't turn on) or 2 Contact the vendor' s service department.
Hardware Problems 33 3 When a problem is detected with a fan, th e fr ont panel Alarm LED lights up in orange, the LED of the fan unit in which the error has occurred lights up in orange, and an error is recorded in the eve nt log. If a fan error occu rs, contact the vendor's service department.
