Preface Thank y ou for selecting the Fuji Programmable Operat ion Display , POD UG230 Series (called as the UG 230 or POD her eaf te r). This User ’s Manual <UG230 Hardware> ex plains syst em configuration, specifications and handling of the UG230 Series.

Notes on Saf e Use of POD In this manu al, you w ill find various notes categor ized under the following leve ls with the signal w ords “DANG ER,” and “ CAUTI ON.” Note that there is a possibility that the item listed w ith may have serious ram ifications.
• Check the appearance of the unit when it is unpacked. Do not use t he unit if any damage or deformation is found. Failure to do so may lead to fire, damage or malfunction.
[General Notes ] • Never bundle control cables and input/output cables w ith high-voltage and large-current carry ing cables such as power s upply cables. Keep these cables at least 200 m m away from the high-voltage and large-c urrent carry ing cables.

Unlike the MJ1, the connector is available as an RS-422 (4-wire) port . The pins of modular jack 2 correspond to signals as given below .

The UG230 USB driver “O P-U.inf” is automatically stored in the “inf” folder within the UG00S-CW editor installation folder (“ UGW ” for ex ample).

USB Connectors Recognition of USB Driver W hen the driv er has been installed successfully and the UG230 and t he computer are c onnected with a USB cable, the [Device Manager] window show s “Operation Panel - Operation Panel USB Driver.” This will disappear when the UG 230 and the computer are disconnected.

2-30 8. CF Card Notes on Handling the CF Card 1. POD can recogniz e a CF card in the F A T fi le sy stem. It cannot recognize a F A T32-formatted CF card . 2. Do not inser t or remov e the CF card during access . Doing so may destroy data on t he CF card.

Slide the battery holder cover in the direction of the arrow (“ → ” sho wn below) to open it. 3. Check that the battery is securely attached to the backside of the cover , and connect the batt ery connector.

4-6 3. Funct ion Switches User-defined Function Switches [F1] to [F5] • W hen the UG230 is in the STOP mode, the function switches do not work. • W hen the UG230 is in the RUN mode and the switc h menu by the [SY STE M] switch is not display ed, the function switches can be defined by the user .

5 1. 1 : 1 Connection 5-1 Conn ect ions 1. 1 : 1 Con nection • One set of the UG230 is connected t o one PLC (1 : 1 connect ion). • The host link unit of the P LC or the CP U port is used and the UG 230 (mast er station) establishes communications according to t he protocol of t he PLC.

(Maximum connectable units: 32) • The PLC must be of the ty pe of signal level RS 422/RS485 with port numbers. RS422 connection betw een the UG230 ↔ PLC must be in 2-wire connection.
5 5. Universal Serial Communications 5-5 Conn ect ions 5. Univ ersal Serial Communica tions • A general purpose computer or an ASCII unit of the PLC (m aster station) c ontrols the PO D (slave station) using dedicated commands.
5-6 6. UG-Link 6. UG-Link • “UG-Link” is the netw ork where the comput er reads from and writes to the internal memory of the UG230, mem ory card, PLC memory or temperature control/ PLC2 memory using a dedicated protocol. • Use MJ1 of the UG230 for connection with a general-purpose com puter .
5 7. PLC2Way 5-7 Conn ect ions 7. PLC2W ay • The “PLC2W ay” function is an original network function w here one UG230 can be connected to two P LCs. Even if the manufacturer s of these PLC s are not t he same, t hey can be connect ed to one UG230.
5-8 8. Tem perature Control N etwork 8. T emperature Con trol Network • Using the temperat ure control network , the UG230 can be connected t o the temperature cont roller or inverter. W ith RS-232C, one PLC can be connected; with RS-485, a maximum of 31 temperature controllers c an be connected.

6-4 2. M ain Menu S creen 2. Main Menu Screen The Main Menu screen is display ed when the POD is in the STOP mode. In this state, the POD is disconnected from the PLC a nd other ex ternal devices.

6-6 2. M ain Menu S creen 1-1. USB T est W hen the [USB T est] switch is pressed, the following screen is display ed. This screen is used to check the status of USB-A (master port) connection. Checking the Connection Status If the lamp on the screen shows [No Connect ed] in blue, the device has not been connected to the USB port correct ly .
6 2. Main M enu Scr een 6-7 POD Oper ati ons Printer T est W hen a printer is connected to the USB-A port, a print test can be done. Check if the UG 230 sends signals normally to the pr inter using the [Print] s witch. The test is successful if a tes t page is printed w ithout problem s.
6-8 2. M ain Menu S creen MJ2 T est RS-232C signal test 1. Slide the s lide switch on the POD to the upper position for RS-232 C. 2. Turn on the [MJ2] and [RS232C] switc hes under [Communication Port ]. 3. Check the signals [RD] and [SD] . W ire inside MJ2 as shown below .
6 2. Main M enu Scr een 6-9 POD Oper ati ons RS-422 signa l test 1. Slide the slide switch on the POD to the low er position for RS-422. 2. Turn on the [MJ2] and [RS485] switches under [Communication Port] . 3. Check the s ignals [+RD], [ − RD], [ +SD] and [ − SD].
6-10 2. M ain Menu S creen 3. Press t he [Self-Loop T est ] swit ch. W hen t he [OK] lamp lights up, t he test is successfully completed. * If the [NG ] lamp lights up, consult your local distributor. RS-485 signal test MJ1 must be connect ed to MJ2 for an RS-485 signal test through MJ1.

M ain Menu S creen T ouch Switch A djustment If a position diff erent from the pressed position turns w hite on the touch switch tes t screen, follow the steps described below to adjust the touc h switch position. 1. Hold down the [SY STE M] sw itch and press the [F 2] switc h on the t ouch switc h test sc reen.

6 2. Main M enu Scr een 6-17 POD Oper ati ons 4. Data Selection and Transfer Select ion In the “Transfer” field, select [Display <-- Card], [Disp lay --> Card] or [Display <--> Card]. Press the desired switch to tur n the switch on. Multiple switc hes can be pressed in the “Data Selection” field.

6 2. Main M enu Scr een 6-19 POD Oper ati ons T ransferring Screen Dat a from a CF Card The procedure of transferring data between the UG230 and a CF card is described below. 1. Mounting the CF Card Insert t he CF card into the CF card connect or at the side of the UG 230.
6-20 2. M ain Menu S creen 2. Check the folder name, free space, and CF card file information. If the correct folder is selected, move to step 4. • Folder Name Indicates the name of the c urrently selected folder . The access folder that is set for screen data defaults.
6 2. Main M enu Scr een 6-21 POD Oper ati ons 4. Press the [Select Data] switch. The [Data S election] window is display ed and t he [Select Data] switch changes to [ S tart]. Select the desired data, and press the [Start] switch. T o cancel the [Data Selection] w indow , press the [Retur n] switch.
