English 30 BASIC OPERA TION BEFORE T AKING PICTURES For best results Hold the camera secur ely , keeping y our elbo ws cl ose to y our body and making sure the camera is stable. Make sure tha t the lens and flash are not blo ck ed by your fin gers or the stra p .
31 English BEFORE T AKING PICTURES Using the autof ocus The autofocus will w ork in almost all situat ions; however , there are certain conditions that may cause the autof ocus function to not work properl y . If the autofocus function is not working properly , set the focus range to capture images (page 66).
English 32 The fo llowing e xamples are some of the situations where the aut ofocus function ma y work, b ut not as desired. i i i i When both near and far objects are present Use the focus-loc k function to lock the focus on an object at the sa me distance as the desired subject, then reposition the camera to compose the picture.

35 English CAPTURING I MA GES HINT Adjusting the LCD monitor brightness i While the Shooting Scr een is activ e, Y ou can quic kly access the screen f or adjusting the brightness of the LCD monitor by pressing the MENU button for at least 1 se cond.

39 English B ASIC SHOO TING FUNCTIONS Using the zoom Y our camera has two zoom functions: optical zoom and digital zoom. Y ou can specify whether or not the digital zoom is enabled (pa ge 118). 1 Poi nt the camera lens at t he subject. 2 Pr ess the zoom switch to compose the desired image.
English 40 Exposure correc tion When capturing images, y ou can make the image lighter or darker . 1 Se t the main swit ch to REC. h T o exit the Shoo ting Setting Screen, press the MENU but ton . 2 While the Shooting Screen is displayed, toggle the SET button to the right.
41 English MAKE AN A UDIO RECORDING Y our camera can mak e audio recordings. 1 Turn on the camer a (page 26), and set the main switch to REC. 2 Pr ess the MENU button. h The menu displa y appears . 3 From the video c lip mode menu, select the audio memo icon < , and press the SET button.

English 56 Still image mode (resolution) setting By setting the still image resoluti on (pixels) to a higher setting, image detail is enhanced for a smoother , finer picture. However , the file size also becomes lar ge and uses more memory . Select the resolution setting that suits your purpose.

Spot f ocus: The camera f ocuses on the subject in the center of the LCD monitor .
69 English LIGHT -MEASURING MODE SETTING Y ou can select from 3 types of light-measuring modes . Multi-section light- measuring: The exp osure is adjusted after sampling from mult iple areas of the entire shooting screen.
English 70 ISO SENSITIVITY With the initial se ttings, the ISO sensit ivity is automatically set according to the brightness of the subject. Howe ver , the ISO sensi tivity can be set to a fixed setting. 1 Di splay the PAGE 2 Shooting Setting Screen (page 49).
71 English WHITE B ALANCE This camera automaticall y adjusts the white balance und er most lighting conditions. Ho we v er , if y ou want to specify the lighting conditions or ch ange the ov erall tone of the image, the whit e balance can be manually set .

81 English ERASING D A T A Y ou can erase data that is stored on the card if you no longer ne ed it. Y ou can erase the data one at a ti me, or all at once . 1 Dis play the PAGE 1 Playback Setting Screen (page 73). 2 Sel ect the erase i con c , and press the SET button.
English 82 4 Toggle the SET button up to select “ YES ” , and press the SET button. <ONE ERASE> h The currently disp la yed image is deleted. h T o erase other data, select the data, and press the SET b utton. <ERASE ALL> h The Erase Confirmation Screen again appears .
83 English PRINT SETTINGS In addition to using y our printer to print out still images captured with you r camera, as with con ventional film, y ou can hav e prints made at shops offering digital print ser vices .
English 84 HINT Printing a single frame fr om a video clip i T o pr int with a printer or hav e the digital print ser vice shop print out a still image from a video clip , you m ust first sav e it (save frame) as a stil l image. About the DPOF format i DPOF (Digital Print Order F or mat) is a print ord er f ormat.
85 English PRINT SETTINGS Specifying date imprinting and pr int quantitie s Y ou can specify print settings for each individual image (EACH IMA GE), or apply the print settings to all the ima ges on the card (ALL IMA GES). 1 Dis play the Print Setting Screen ( page 83).

91 English CHANGING IMA GE SIZE (RESIZE) The size of a still image that has already been capt ured at a resolution of t or more can be cha nged to 1,6 00 × 1,200 pix els or 640 × 480 pix els.
English 92 RED-EYE CORRECTION If you photogr aph y our subjects at ni ght using the flash, the y ma y appear i n the image with glo wing red ey es (red-ey e phenomenon). Now you can amend the image so that the subjects ’ e yes app ear more natural (red-ey e correction).
93 English RED-EYE CORRECTION 4 Press the still image shooting button. h A screen appears f or you to sp ecify whether or not to k eep the original image. 5 Select the desired method to save the corrected image, and press the SET button. h The corrected image is sa ved , and you are ret urned to the Red-ey e Correction Screen.
