Chapter 1: Ove rview 24 Power Supply The switch has an internal power supply with a single AC power supply socket on the back panel which features autoswitch AC inputs. To power the switch on or off, connect or disconnect the power co rd provided with the switch.
AT-FS750/24POE Fast Ethe rnet Smart Switch Instal lation Guide 25 Power over Ethernet The twisted pair ports on the AT-FS750/24POE Fa st Ethernet Smart switch feature Power ove r Ethernet (PoE). PoE is a mechanism for supplying power to network devices over the same twisted pair cables used to carry network traffic.
Chapter 1: Ove rview 26 A port connected to a network node that is not a powered device (that is, a device that receives its power from another power source) functions as a regular Ethernet port, without PoE. The PoE feature remain s enabled on the port but no power is delivered to the d evice.
AT-FS750/24POE Fast Ethe rnet Smart Switch Instal lation Guide 27 Ethernet Switching Basics An Ethernet switch interconnects network devices, such as workstat ions, printers, routers, and other Ethernet switches, so that they can communicate with each other by sending and receiving Ethernet frames.
Chapter 1: Ove rview 28 end node can receive or transmit data, but not bo th simultaneously, the end node is operating in what is referred to as half- duplex mode. If an end node can both receive and transmit dat a simultaneously, the en d node is said to be operating in full-duplex mode.
AT-FS750/24POE Fast Ethe rnet Smart Switch Instal lation Guide 29 data again, the switch stops forcing co llisions. This is referred to as back pressure. A port operating at 100 Mbps and full- d uplex mode uses PAUSE frames, as specified in the IEEE 802.
Chapter 1: Ove rview 30 Network Topologies This section illustrates two network topo logies that you can create with the AT-FS750/24POE Fast Ethernet Smart switch: a p ower workgroup and collapsed backbone. Both types of topologie s are described below.
AT-FS750/24POE Fast Ethe rnet Smart Switch Instal lation Guide 31 Collapsed Backbone In the topology illustrated in Figure 7, an AT-94 24T/SP Gigabit Ethernet Switch forms the backbone that connects to serve rs and AT-FS750/ 24POE Fast Ethernet Smart switch es using Gigabit Ethernet uplinks.
