INTRODUCTION This manual descr ibes the operation of the M-P A two-wa y FM Select, Scan, and System m odel por table radios . Operating controls on the radio include a ro- tatable control knob , rotatab le v olume control, a 4- button k eypad ( Scan model) or 16-b utton keypad (System model), push-to-talk, emer gency and moni- tor buttons .

MENU BUTTON (Scan Model) Pressing the MENU b utton causes the radio to scroll through up to six (6) diff erent menus pro- grammed into the radio . After the desired menu is display ed, the feature within the menu is selected with the SEL button.
After the menu is chosen, the desired function or featur e is selected by pressing the SEL b utton. For exam ple, to disable the aler t tones, press M ENU until "ALER T" is displa y ed then press SEL to select "DIS- ABLED". Next press the EXIT b utton.

"KEY LOCK" Allows the keypad buttons to be locked or unlocked. "SCAN A/D" Allows channels to be added to or deleted from the scan list for the current mode. The pr iority- one channel and the pr iority-two channel are also set within this menu.

T 99 Type 99 tone decode - On indicates Ty pe 99 tone decoding is enabled on the se- lected channel. Flashing indicates a T99 selective call has been received and the radio must be reset to receive another T99 call. TX Transmitter enabled - On when the r adio is transmitting.
ALERT TONE S The M-P A uses aler t tones or "beeps" to indicate various operating conditions. Aler t tones may be ena bled or di sabled via the menu mod e if th e "ALER T" f eatur e is programm ed. See "ALER T" MENU f or details .
If programmed on, the po wer- up aler t tone (beep) will be heard. MODE/CHANNEL/CG SELECT ION The M-P A Scan and System model radios ma y be programm ed with up to 192 diff erent radio chan- nels. A maximum of 12 modes of 16 channels each or 16 modes of 12 channels each ma y be pro- grammed into the radio (12 x 16 = 192).

TRANSMITT ING A MESSA GE 1. Select the desired m ode, channel, and/or Chann el Gu ard. See the MODE/CHAN- NEL/CG SELECTION for details .. 2. Ensure no one is transmitting on the se- lected channel by pressing the MONIT OR BUTT ON to disable squelch or observing the display f or the absence of the "BSY" status flag.
CONTROL KNOB will not change channels. Turning the radio off and back on will reset this condition. • GE-STAR is sent on the selected channel and the radio locks onto that channel. Rotat- ing the CONTROL KNOB will not change channels. Turning the radio off and then back on will reset this condition.

1. If the "SCN" status flag is on, press SCAN to tur n scan off . 2. Select a channel in your radio system that has telephone interconnect capability . The radio should be progr ammed f or DT MF op- eration on this channel. 3. Press the MENU b utton until "PHONE" ap- pears in the displa y .
TELEPHONE INTERCONNE CT CALLS SYSTEM MODE LS T elephone interconnect calls can be placed on radio channels equipped with this capability . Each chann el pro grammed into the radio can be pro- grammed f or telephone interconnect by enabling it f or DTMF dial operation.
4. While holding the PTT BUT T ON, pres s either the " * " b utton or the "#" button as required b y the r adio system to obtain a telephone line. The radio will transmit the selected tone. 5. Release the PTT BUT T ON and listen for a dial tone.

OPERATING TIPS Antenna location and condition is impor tant when operating a por table radio . Operating the radio in low areas of terrain, under power lines or bridges , inside of a vehicle or in a metal or steel framed building can se v erely reduce the range of the unit.

REMO VING TH E B A TTER Y P A CK 1. Ensure the ON/OFF SWITCH on the battery pack is in the off position. 2. Press down on the battery release latch and slide the batter y pack out in the direction of the release latch.
Char gers are av ailab le with nominal charge times of 1 hour (rapid) and 14 hours (standard) . Combinations include single (1) and multi (5) posi- tion, standard and rapid charge units . In addition, the vehicular char gers/repeaters simultaneously charge the batter y packs while the radio is operating.
