4 Setting Up the Document Camera Unpacking th e Docume nt Camera After unpack ing the do cument cam era, make su re you have all the items s how n belo w: Save all packaging i n case you need to ship the document camera. Always use the original packaging (or the equivalent) when yo u need to send the docu ment camera to anoth er location.
Setting Up the Document Camera 5 Unfolding the Document Camera Foll ow the s teps b elow t o un fold the doc umen t cam era . 1. While hold ing dow n the document c amera, press th e suppo rt release and lift the support until you hear a click. 2. Lift the ca mera arm until you hear a cli ck.
6 Setting Up the Document Camera 3. Pull the camera head forward unti l the lens faces the stage (downward) and you hear a click. 4. Unfold the first lamp arm (1) and then the se cond (2) as s hown until they stop. If a prote ctive she et covers the stage, remo ve it.
Setting Up the Document Camera 7 Positioning the Docum ent Camera Before connecti ng the do cument camera, yo u need to dec ide wher e to place it. Wherever you place it, be sure to follow these guid elines: ■ Place the document camera on a sturdy, leve l surface.
8 Setting Up the Document Camera Connecting to a Projector or Monitor You can connect the document camera to any projector or m onitor that has a c omposite video or S-Vid eo i nput por t. EPS ON proj ector s and many television monitors support both connections.
Setting Up the Document Camera 9 Connecting the Optional S-Video Cable Before you start, make sure your document camera and projector or monitor are tur ned off. 1. Connect o ne end of the S -Video cabl e to the do cument came ra ’ s S-Vid eo po rt.
10 Setting Up the Document Camera Adjusting the Frequen cy The fre quency selec tion switc h is located on the rear of the document camera, next to the S-Video port. It is factory set to 60 Hz. In an area where power frequency i s 50 Hz , set th e switch t o 50Hz to reduce flick erin g.
2 Using the Document Camera 11 Using the Document Camera O nce you have set up the doc ument camera, you ’ re ready to turn it on, adjust the image, and give your presentation.
12 Using the D ocument Came ra Turning On Your Equipment Make sure your document camera and other e quipment are set up and connected correctly, as described in C hapter 1. Always turn on your projector o r monitor fi rst. Then turn on your doc ument camera as desc ribe d below .
Using the Document Camera 13 4. Tur n on the docume nt camera. After a few moments, the POWER and Auto Focus indic ator lights and the lamps turn on. 5. Place your presentation material on the s tage. You should see an image o n scre en. Once you se e your image, turn to page 1 5 fo r instr uction s on m akin g adjustments.
14 Using the D ocument Came ra What To Do If You See a Blank Screen If an image doesn ’ t appear, try the following: ■ Make sure the c ables are conne cted correc tly, as descr ibed on page 8. ■ Make sure eve rything is turned on in the correct o rder as described on page 12.
Using the Document Camera 15 Adjusting the Ligh ting For prese nting printed material or 3-D objects, the two lamps will provide ample light. If the ambient lighting i n the room is suffici ent, however, you m ay obtain a better im age with the lamps off.
16 Using the D ocument Came ra Material w ith a varying dep th of fiel d, little or exce ssiv e contrast, o r fine repeat ed patter ns may not focus well using the Auto Fo cus featu re. To ma nually f ocus the se ob jects, f irst pres s the Auto Focus button to turn off automatic focu sing.
Using the Document Camera 17 Using the Camera Head as a Conventional Video Cam era By adjusting the camera head to a horizo ntal position, you can use the document camera like a conventio nal video camera. And since the camera output is NT SC, you can pres ent true motion vid eo.
18 Using the D ocument Came ra Turning Off and Storing the Document Camera When you ’ ve finishe d using the do cument camer a, follow these steps to turn off and store it. If you ’ re using a monitor or pr ojecto r, shut it down l ast. 1. Turn off the document camera.

20 Using the D ocument Came ra 7. Pull the support lock releas e lever until you hear a click and the lock is rel eased. Then f old the sup port down until you hear a click and the suppo rt release latches to the stage. 8. Store the do cument camera as s hown.
3 Maintaining and Transporting the Document Camera 21 Maintaining and Transporting the Document Camera Y our documen t camera need s little maintena nce. All you need to d o on a regular ba sis is keep t he lense s and stage clean. Any d irt or sm ears on the lenses or stage may sho w up on your p resented im age.
22 Maintaining and Transporting the Do cument Camera Cleaning the Lenses Clean the le nses whenev er you notice dirt or dus t on the surfac e. ■ Use a canist er of comp ressed air to remove dust. ■ To remove dirt or smears on the lense s, use lens -cleaning pap er.

If you need to transp ort it, follow th ese packing guid elines to pre vent damage to the document camera: ■ Make sure to turn off and f old the document camera as des cribed on page 18.
