16 Setting Up the Projector Positioning th e Projector The pr ojector can b e installe d for t hree di ffere nt view ing setups: front projecti on, ceiling mounting , or rear pr ojection onto a semi-trans parent sc reen, as show n: To pr ojec t fro m over hea d, yo u ’ ll need to select Ceiling in th e projecto r ’ s Advanced menu.

Setting Up the Projector 19 Connecting the Compute r and Monitor Cab les 1. If you ’ ll be viewi ng images on a monitor as well as the projection screen, c onnect th e monitor cable to the projec tor ’ s Monit or Out port, as shown.
20 Setting Up the Projector Connecting to an Older Macintosh If you ’ re connecting to a Macintosh and the computer and monitor cables don ’ t f it prop erly, you may need to use a Macintos h adapter set. You ca n pur chase th is set fro m EPSO N; see pag e 14.

22 Setting Up the Projector Connecting the Mouse an d Serial Cables You may need to conne ct the mouse or serial c able in the followi ng situati ons: ■ If you want to use the remote control in place of your comp uter ’ s mouse, you need to connect the mo use cable as d escribed be low.
Setting Up the Projector 23 3. Connect one end of the mouse cable to the MOUSE terminal on the square end of the main cab le. 4. Connect the other end of the mouse cable to the mouse por t (or USB port) on your comput er.

Connecting to a Second Compu ter Follow these ste ps to conne ct a computer to the Comp uter 2/ Component Video interface.

Si nce 1280 × 1 024 pixe ls is the def ault resol ution fo r most l eading workst ations, y our proj ector is ide al for displayi ng workst ation vide o outp ut.
Setting Up the Projector 27 Connecting to a Video Device You can c onnec t the p rojector to up to three vide o so urces at t he same time: ■ For compo site video, use the RCA video cab le included wi th the projecto r. ■ For S-Vi deo, use the S-Video cable suppl ied with yo ur video devic e or obt ain one fro m your e lectr onics deale r.
28 Setting Up the Projector Connecting Composite (R CA) Video Before starting, make sure the projector and your video device are turn ed off. 1. Connect th e yellow RCA plug o n one end of the RC A video cable to the projec tor ’ s Video port. Conne ct the other end of the cable to the vide o-out po rt of your vi deo sourc e.
Setting Up the Projector 29 Connecting S-Video If your video source ha s an S-Video jack, you c an use it to p roject a higher qu alit y vide o im age. Ho wever , you ’ ll need an S-Video cable, which may be incl uded with your video sour ce, or can be purc hased separa tely.
30 Setting Up the Projector Connecting Component (B NC) Video If your vi deo source has component (BNC) connectors, you c an use them to project a hi gher quality vi deo im age. Before starti ng, make sure the pro jector and yo ur vide o devic e are turned of f.
Setting Up the Projector 31 Connecting to a Network and Inserti ng the Memory Card To use the pro jector ’ s EasyMP.net features, you have to connect the projector to your netwo rk and insert a memor y card as described below.
32 Setting Up the Projector software needs to be on the netwo rk, but if it ’ s equi pped wit h a wireless Etherne t card , the us er won ’ t have to worry about connect ing any cables. Connecting to the Netw ork Once your netwo rk is set up, connect the p rojector to i t using a standard (C ategory 5 UTP) netw ork cabl e.

Displaying and Adjusting the Image 41 Adjusting the Height of Y our Image You can adjus t the height of the imag e using the lens shi ft knob and the projec tor ’ s feet. Using the Lens Shift Knob Use the lens shi ft knob to r aise or lower the i mage.

44 Displaying and Adjusting the Image Shutting Down the Projector When done using the projecto r, you should turn off the projectio n lamp to conserve power and maintain the lif e of the lamp. If the projector i s connected to a network, leave it p lugged in so that it can continue to receiv e data.

46 Setting up EasyMP.net Configuring the Projector to the Network Make sure the pr ojector is conne cted to your local area netwo rk (LAN) and equipped with a memory card, as described in Chapter 1. Then fo llow the s teps below to configure yo ur proj ector w ith the correct TC P/IP address and other netw ork parameters .
Setting up EasyMP.net 47 A network that includes a gateway Your networ k may include a gatew ay (or router) . In the example shown below, the office subne t is linked through a gateway to the pro ject.
48 Setting up EasyMP.net Configuring the Projector After noting any network par ameters as described in the previous section, follow th e steps be low to config ure the projec tor to the network. 1. Turn on the projector, as described on pa ge 36. Wait until you see the EasyM P.

52 Setting up EasyMP.net Giving Users Access to the Projector To enable users to send thei r presentati ons to the proje ctor, you need to ins tall the EMP softwa re on eac h user ’ s sy stem. Once it ’ s instal led, you sho uld open the software and id entify the pr ojector so that it can be easily recogni zed whenev er the soft ware is used .

70 Fine-tuning the Projector Repositioning the Image Follow these steps to move the image to a diff erent po sition: 1. Press the Menu bu tton. You se e the menu screen. 2. Press Enter to select the Video menu. 3. Press Enter to select the Posit ion opti on.

78 Fine-tuning the Projector Customizing Projec tor Features You can use the Setting menu to di sable the projecto r ’ s sleep mode, adjust the image shape , and custo mize several other features. 1. Press the Menu bu t ton. 2. Highlight the Setting menu, then press Enter .

The logo setting displays an image that you have transf erred to the p rojector (se e page 76). ■ BNC Specif ies the forma t for in put to the C ompu ter 2/ Component Video port.

5 Maintaining and Transporting the Projector 83 Maintaining and Transporting the Projector Y our projecto r needs little maintenanc e. All you need to do on a regular basis is keep the le ns clea n. Any dirt or sm ears on the lens will show up on your projec ted im age.
84 Maintaining and Transporting the Pr ojector Cleaning the Lens Clean the le ns whenever you notice dirt o r dust on the surface. ■ Use a canist er of comp ressed air to remove dust. ■ To remove dirt or smears on the lens, use lens-cleaning paper.
Maintaining and Transporting the Projector 85 Cleaning the Ai r Filter Clean the air filter at the bottom of the proj ector after e very 100 hours of use. If it is not cleaned periodically, it can become clo gged with dust, preventing proper ventilation.
86 Maintaining and Transporting the Pr ojector Before removing the f ilter , make sure the pr ojector is o n its si de (not up side d own) to pr event dus t from falling i nside. T hen pull up on the tab as show n to remove the filter. Replacing the Lamp The projecti on lamp typically lasts fo r about 2000 hours of use.
Maintaining and Transporting the Projector 87 Follow these ste ps to replace the lamp: 1. Turn off the p rojector and unplug the powe r cable. 2. Allow the projector to cool down for at least an hour (if i t has been on). 3. Use a sc rewdriv er to loo sen the two retaini ng screw s on the lamp cover.
88 Maintaining and Transporting the Pr ojector 6. Gently insert the n ew lamp as s hown belo w. Make sur e it ’ s inserted all the way . Tighten the screw s on the new lamp. 7. Replace the lamp cover and tighten its scr ews. (Make sur e the lamp c over is secure ly fast ened.
Maintaining and Transporting the Projector 89 Installing Batteries in the Remot e Control Follow these steps to install or replace the r emote co ntrol ’ s batteries: 1. Press the tab to release the battery co mpartment cover. 2. Remove any ol d batteries.
90 Maintaining and Transporting the Pr ojector You can test the batteries by pressing the light but ton on the remote co ntrol. The other buttons sh ould light up temporarily.
Maintaining and Transporting the Projector 91 Transporting the Projector The projector contains many glass and precision parts. If you need to transport it, fo llow these packi ng guidelines to pr event damage to the projecto r: ■ When shi pping the pro jector for repair s, use the orig inal packaging material if possible.

92 Solv in g Prob lem s What To Do Whe n the Lights Flas h The lights on top of the pr ojector i ndica te the projec tor ’ s status and let you kno w when a prob lem occur s. If the projec tor is no t working cor rectly, first turn i t off and unplug it.
Solv ing P roblem s 93 Solving Problems with the Image or Sound No image appears on the screen. ■ Check that the p ower light is green, not fl ashing, and the lens cover is off. ■ The projector may be in sleep mode. If the power light is orange, press the Power button to turn the projecto r on.
94 Solv in g Prob lem s You see a blue screen with the message No S ig nal displayed. ■ Make sure the c ables are conne cted correc tly, as descr ibed in Chapte r 1.
Solv ing P roblem s 95 If you ’ re using a PowerBook: 1. From the Ap ple menu, sele ct Control Panels , then click Monitors and Sound. 2. Click the Arrange ico n. 3. Drag one moni tor icon on top of t he other. T his let s you display on the p rojector scree n as well as th e LCD screen.
96 Solv in g Prob lem s The message Not Supported is displayed. ■ If you ’ ve connect ed a second co mputer or you ’ re using component video, make sur e the BNC option in the Setting menu is correct.
Solv ing P roblem s 97 The image isn’t square, bu t trapezoi d-shaped. ■ Make sure the pr ojector i sn ’ t placed off to one side of the screen, at an angle. Place the pro jector di rectly in fro nt of the center of the screen, faci ng the screen square ly.

Solv ing P roblem s 99 The colors of the image are not right. ■ The co lor b alanc e may b e in corr ect. If you ’ re d isplaying a comp uter imag e, use t he Gamm a option in the projecto r ’ s Video menu to adjust the balance of red, green, and blue.
