12 Setting Up the Projector Connecting to a Laptop Computer You can connect the Pow erLite proje ctor to any computer that has a standa rd video o utput (mo nitor ) port, in cluding PC notebo ok and laptop comp uters , Macin tosh P owerBo oks, an d hand- held d evices .

Setting Up the Projector 15 Connecting to Video Sources You ca n conne ct a D VD pla yer, VC R, cam cord er, la ser disc player , digital camera, or any oth er comp atible vi deo sour ce to your projecto r. The projector supports HDTV, NTSC, PAL, and SECAM, and automatically de tects the vi deo format.
16 Setting Up the Projector Connecting the RCA AV C able Before starting, make sure the projector and your DVD player or other vid eo source are turned o ff. 1. Connect the yellow plug on one end of the AV cable to the projecto r ’ s yello w Video jack.
Setting Up the Projector 17 Connecting S-Video If your video source ha s an S-Video jack, you c an use it to p roject a higher qu alit y video im age. Ho wever, yo u ’ ll need an S-Video cable, which may be incl uded with your video source, o r may be purchased.
18 Setting Up the Projector Connecting Component V ideo Cables If your vi deo source has component video connector s, you can use them to projec t a higher quality vi deo image. Ho wever, you ’ ll need a component vi deo cable (D-s ub 15-pin to 3B NC), which c an be purchased f rom EPS ON (ELPKC19) .
2 Using the Projector 19 Using the Projector O nce you ’ ve set up the pr ojector, you ’ re ready to turn it on, adjust the image, and give your pr esentation. You can use the built-in EasyMP system to pr oject withou t connecting to other equip ment, as described i n Chapter 5.
20 Using the Projector Turning On Your Equipment Make sure your p rojector (and optional equip ment) are set up and connected correctly, as describe d in Chapter 1 or Appendix A. Then turn on your projector, as described below, fol lowed by any equipment you ’ ve conne cted to i t.
Using the Projector 21 4. Squeeze the lens cap tabs and remove the lens cap. 5. Press the red Power button on top of the proj ector. The power ligh t flashes green as th e projector war ms up, and the projecti on lamp come s on in ab out 30 sec onds. The p ower light stays g reen.
22 Using the Projector 6. Do one of th e follow ing: ■ If you ’ re presen ting without a computer , you may see the EasyMP main scr een. Use the Ent er butto n on the rem ote control to select your pres entation, then pre ss En ter to start it. See Chap ter 5 for more inform ation.

24 Using the Projector If you ’ re using a PC laptop: ■ Hold do wn the Fn key and press the function key that lets you display on an external monitor. It may have an icon such as or it may be labelled CRT/LCD . Allow a few seco nds fo r the pro jec tor to sy nc u p afte r pr ess in g it.
Using the Projector 25 Focusing and Zooming You r Image Rotate the focus ri ng to sharpen the image. Use the tab to rotate the lens ring and red uce or enlarge the im age. You can also change the image size by moving the projector closer to or farther aw ay from the screen.

3 Using the Remote Control 29 Using the Remote Control T he remote co ntrol lets you access your p rojector ’ s feat ures from anywhere in the room — up to 30 feet away. You can use it to turn the projector on and off, zoom in on a portion of your image, and highlight your p resentation.

44 Creating Presentations for Your Pr ojector Creating a Scenario A scenario is a series of slid es and/or images that you can present without a compute r. The easiest way to create a scenario is to drag and drop a PowerP oint file on the EMP SlideM aker icon on your desktop.

Creating Presentations for Your Projector 49 If you need to rearrange cells, you can drag and drop them as necessary within the Scenario window. When you have f inished adding sli des and images to your sc enario, you can add transit ions and other d isplay settings.

Choose how you want to advance to the next cell. ■ If you want to advance manually, click On m ouse click. ■ If you want to advance automatically, set the timing in the Automaticall y after box. You can set any length of time between 1 and 180 0 seconds (30 minutes ).

6 Fine-tuning the Projector 69 Fine-tuning the Projector Y ou can use the pr ojector ’ s on -screen m enus to ad just the im age, sound, and other featur es. You can also create your ow n startup screen, customi ze the highlighting tools, and find out how long your lamp has been in use.

Yo u can also set it to be displayed when you pr ess the A/V Mute button, or as a startup screen.

82 Fine-tuning the Projector You see the lamp usage hour s and computer dis p lay settings on the right: The life span of the lamp is about 1000 hours. If the number shown is clo s e to 1000 , make sure you have a spare lamp handy. 3. When you ’ r e finish ed, pres s Esc or Menu .
7 Maintaining and Transporting the Projector 83 Maintaining and Transporting the Projector Y our projector needs little maintenance. All you need to do on a regular basis is keep the lens clean. Any dirt or smears on the lens may show up on your projected im age.
84 Maintaining and Transporting the Pr ojector Cleaning the Lens Clean the le ns whenever you noti ce dirt or du st on the surface. ■ Use a canist er of compres sed air to remo ve dust . ■ To remove dirt or smears on the lens, use lens-cleaning paper.
Maintaining and Transporting the Projector 85 Cleaning and Re placing the A ir Filter Clean the ai r filter on to p of the projector after every 100 hours of use. If it is not cl eaned periodically, it can b ecome clogged with dust, preventing proper ventilation.
86 Maintaining and Transporting the Pr ojector 4. If you need to repl ace the filter, use a smal l screwdriver to pry it off. 5. To install th e new fi lter, first insert th e tab, the n press d own until it clic ks in pla ce. Replacing the Lamp The projecti on lamp typically lasts for about 1000 hours of use.
Maintaining and Transporting the Projector 87 Follow these ste ps to replace the lamp: 1. Turn off the p rojector, then unpl ug the power co rd. 2. Allow the projector to c ool down for at least an ho ur (if it has been on). 3. Turn the pr ojector up side-dow n to access the lamp compartm ent.

Solv ing Prob lems 91 What To Do When the Lights Flash The lights on top of the pr ojector indi cate the proj ector ’ s status and let yo u know when a pr oblem occurs. If the projec tor is not working cor rectly, first turn it of f and unplug it. Then plug the power cord back i n and turn o n the projector.
