1 13 1 Setting Up th e Projector T his ch apter give s you basi c info rmati on on settin g up the pr oje ctor: where to position it and how to connect it to a video source (s uch as a VCR or DVD player) or to a notebook or desktop computer.
14 Setting Up the Projector Positioning th e Projector If you ’re se tting u p the pro jecto r your self and i t isn ’t alre ady i nsta lled in the class room or confer ence room yo u’re using, yo u’ll probably wan t to pl ace i t on a tabl e in fr ont of the scree n, as s hown on page 15.
Setting Up the Projector 15 Ideal ly, you sh ould pla ce the proj ector directly in front of t he cente r of the screen, facing it toward the screen squarely. The lens should be at about the level of the bottom of the s creen. If you place the pro jector b elow scre en level , you’ll h ave to t ilt it up by extending it s feet.
16 Setting Up the Projector Connecting to Vide o Equipment You can connect up t o four vide o sources to the pro jector at the same time. Before starting, look at your video equipment to d etermi ne i.

20 Setting Up the Projector Connecting an R GB Video Source Follow thes e instructions to connect th e projecto r to a video player that has an RGB video outp ut port. Depend ing on the type of connector on yo ur player, you’ ll need to use the ap propriate cable: ■ If your player has a V GA-sty le connect or, see below.
Setting Up the Projector 21 Connecting Using a BNC-to-VGA Cable 1. Locate a BNC-to-VG A video cable (one may be include d with your video equipm ent). 2. Connec t the BNC end of the cable to your pl ayer and the VG A end to the Computer1 port on the projec tor.
22 Setting Up the Projector Connecting to a Comp uter You can connect the Pow erLite proje ctor to any compute r that has a standard video outp ut (monitor) port, includ ing desktop models, PC notebook s, Macintos h PowerBo oks and iBooks, and hand -held devices.
Setting Up the Projector 23 Connecting to the Compu ter Port Follow these instruc tions: 1. Loc ate the VGA co mputer cabl e provid ed with the pr ojector. 2. Connec t one end to the p rojector’ s Co mput er po rt, and the other end to your comp uter’s monitor po rt.
24 Setting Up the Projector Connecting an Extern al Mo nitor If you want to monitor your pres entation clos e-up (on a monito r plac ed be side th e proj ecto r) as well as on th e scre en, yo u can con nect an external monitor.
Setting Up the Projector 25 Playing Sound Through the Projector You can play sound through the projec tor’s speaker system, or you can attach a n extern al sp eaker sy stem. (Attaching s peakers to the projecto r instead of di rectly to th e audio source lets you use the pr ojector’ s remote control to adjust the sound.
26 Setting Up the Projector Connecting External Sp eakers To connec t speakers to the project or, foll ow these steps: 1. Obtain the ap prop riate cabl e to connect your speakers .
2 27 2 Projecting O nce you’ve set up the proje ctor, you’re read y to turn it on , adjust the image, and give your pr esentation. Although you ca n operate the p roject or without it , the remo te control lets you use additional fe atures. See Chapter 3 for instructions on using the remote .
28 Projecti ng Turning On Your Equipment Make sure your p rojector and other equipment are s et up as desc ribed in Chapter 1. Then f ollow the inst ructions below to start the proje ctor and display an imag e.

The P Power light flashes green as the pr ojector w arms up, and an image begins to appear.

Proje cting 31 What To Do If Yo u See a Blank Screen If you see a blank screen or a blue screen with the No Signal message, try the follow ing: ■ Make sure the c ables are conne cted cor rectly, as descri bed in Chapter 1. ■ Make sure the P Power light is green and not flashi ng and the lens cap is off.
32 Projecti ng From the Control Panel , open th e Display utility. In the Display Prop erties dialog box, cl ick t he Settings tab, then click Advanced . The method fo r adjusti ng the se ttings v aries by brand; you may need to click a Monitor tab, then make sure the external Moni tor por t is se t as yo ur pr imar y disp lay a nd/ or enabled.
Proje cting 33 If you’re using OS 8.6 to OS 9.x : You may need to set up your system to display on the proje ctor scree n as well as th e LCD sc reen. Follo w these steps: 1. From the Ap ple menu, sele ct Control Panels , then click Monitors or Monitors and Sound .

Proje cting 35 Adjusting the Height of Y our Image If the image is too l ow on the screen , you can use the fro nt adjustable feet to r aise it . 1. Lift the front of the proj ector and turn the fr ont feet to ad just the positio n of the pro jected image.
36 Projecti ng Adjusting the Image Sha pe In most cases, you can mai ntain a square or rectangular image by placing the p rojector directl y in fron t of the center of the sc reen with the base of the lens level with the bot tom of the screen.
Proje cting 37 Using Keystone Correction To adjust your image when it is wider on on e side , do the fo llowin g: ■ Press the or buttons on th e proje ctor until you are satisfi ed with the sh ape of th e ima ge. ■ Or press the Menu button on the remote control, selec t the Settings menu, and press Enter .
38 Projecti ng Correcting Computer Ima ges If you’re connected to a computer and the image doesn’t loo k right, press the Auto button o n the remote control (or th e Auto/Enter button on th e projector’ s contro l panel). This automati cally resets the projector’ s tracking, sync, res olution, and position set tings.
Proje cting 39 Shutting Down the Projector When you’v e finished using the proj ector, fol low the rec ommende d procedur e to shut it down. Th is exte nds the life o f the lamp and protects the proj ector fro m poss ible ov erheating. 1. Turn off and disconnect any equipment pl ugged into the projecto r.

3 41 3 Using the Remote Control T he remote co ntrol lets you access your projec tor’s feat ures from anywhere in the ro om—up to 33 feet away. Fo r example, you can turn the projec tor on and of .

Using the Remote Control 43 Replacing the Batterie s The remote control uses two AAA alkaline batteries. Follow these steps when you need to replace them: 1. Press in the tab to remove the batter y cover. 2. Remove th e old ba tteries, the n insert the new ones as s hown.

52 Configuring the Projector Adjustin g Colors and Clarity The Image menu lets yo u make adjustments to the colors of the projec ted image and fine-tune br ightness, co ntrast, and s harpness. The op tions avai lable depe nd on which i mage sourc e is sele cted.

Make sure y ou’ve set a password for the projector as descri bed on page 68. The n follow the steps below to enable the User Logo Protec tion setting: 1.
70 Configuring the Projector Turning on Password Prot ection If you enable the Power On Protect setting, a screen appears requesting the passwo rd whenev er the pro jector is turned on. If you loan the projector to someone, but you want to make su re that the they return it by a certain time, you can disable the password for a set perio d of time.

6 89 6 Maintaining the Projector Y our projector need s little maintenance. All you have to do on a regular basis is keep the le ns cover gl ass clean. Any dir t or smears o n the le ns cover gl ass may show up on yo ur proje cted ima ge. You also need to per iodically clean the air filter at the side of the proj ector .
90 Maintaining the Projector Cleaning the Lens Cover Glass Clean the le ns cover glass whenever yo u notice di rt or dust on the surfac e. ■ Use a canist er of comp ressed ai r to remove dust . ■ To remove dirt or smears on the lens, use a comme rcially available cloth for cleaning eyeglasses.
Maintaining the Projector 91 Cleaning the Ai r Filter Clean the air filter whe n you see any of the foll owing messages: The air filter is clogged. Clean or replace the air filter . or Che ck or Replac e the ai r filter . If it is not cl eaned periodically, it can become clogged with dust, preventing proper ventilation.
92 Maintaining the Projector Follow these st eps: 1. Tur n off pr ojector and unplu g the po wer cord . 2. Turn projec tor upsi de dow n. 3. Remove th e air filter by pushing d own on the two tabs to release the m. 4. Remove the air filter b y pull ing the cent er of air fil ter stra ight out.
Maintaining the Projector 93 Replacing the Lamp The proj ection lamp typical ly lasts fro m 2500 to 3000 hour s, depending on the Brightness Control setting used (see page 57).

Press the Menu button on the r emote control, select Reset Lamp Hours from the Rese t menu, then press Enter .
