Oper a ting Instructions FIRST START When rst installed, the chimney , rebricks and steel are cold and it usually takes sever al hours on a fairly high burn f or them to become hot and dry enough f or the sto ve to function well.
CREOSOTE - ITS FORMATION AND REMOVAL: When wood is burned slowly , it may produce tar and other vapors that, combined wi th moisture, form creosote. These vapors condense in the relatively cooler chimney ue of a slow burning re and, if ignited, make an extremely hot re.
6 Oper a ting Instructions d) Regulate the heat output of the stove by adjusting the air controls to allow a larger re and vice versa. A short period of experimentation with the control settings will allow you to regulate the heat output to keep your home comf ortable.
7 Oper a ting Instructions g) Once the kindling has started to burn, add some smaller pieces of seasoned, dry rewood. Note: Adding large pieces at the early stages will only serve to smother the re. Continue adding small pieces of seasoned dry rewood, keeping the door slightly open until each piece starts to ignite.
8 Oper a ting Instructions 7. What is draft? Draft is the ability of the chimney to exhaust or dr aw smoke produced during the normal combustion process. T oo much draft may cause excessive temperatures in the appliance and may damage the appliance. Inadequate draft may cause backpufng or “plugging” of the chimney .

Inst alla tion M ASONRY F IREPLACE I NSTALLATION : Unless you are experienced, we recommend installation by your dealer or a professional installer. Install only in a masonry replace with a good-condition chimney at least 15 ft (4 .6 m) high, both of which ha ve been constructed in accordance with the building code.

19 Inst alla tion I NSTALLATION U SING A B LOCK -O FF P LATE F OR USA O NLY : If this unit is to be instal led into a masonry replace or a zero-clear ance replace with a direct connection you must install a non-combustible seal-off device such as a block -off plate or damper adapter .

Mount the block -off plate using masonry scr ews in a masonry replace and sheet metal screws on a zero- clearance replace (screws need only be long enough to penetrate the rst layer of metal). 6. Insulate the block -off plate using high - temperature berglass insulation and furnace cement.
