1-5 Chapter 1: Introduction Overview The OmniS tack® 6200 series has nin e platforms: • OS-LS-6212 – Ethernet base d switch wi th 12 RJ-45 10/100Base-TX ports, two Gigabit combo u plink ports (wi.
Introduction 1-6 1 Switch Architecture The Fast Ethernet Swi tch employs a wire-s peed, non-block ing swi tching f abric. This permit s simult aneous wire-speed transport of multiple packet s at low latency on all ports. This switch also features ful l-du plex capabilit y on all ports, which ef fectively doubles th e bandwidth o f each connection.
Description of Hardware 1-7 1 Each port also support s auto-negotiation of flow cont rol, so the switch can automatical ly prevent port buffers fr om becoming saturated. On the LS-OS-6224U, there are two RJ-45 por t s, which are shared with two of the SFP transceiver sl ots.
Introduction 1-8 1 Status LEDs The LEDs, which are locat ed on the front panel f or easy viewing, are shown below and described in the following t able.

Introduction 1-10 1 Setting Stacking/St andalone Modes The OS6200 switch provides S tacking and S tandalone working modes. T o Set the required mode by using th e Unit push button perform the foll owing procedures: T o work in a st acking mode : 1. Reboot the Alcatel OS6200 switch.
Description of Hardware 1-11 1 Optional Backup Power Supply The switch support s an optional Backup Power Supply (BPS), that can supply po wer to the switch in t he event of failure of the internal power suppl y . The U24 device support three ki nd of BPS: • 100W — OS-LS-6 2BP-DC —OS LS-6200 modular DC backup power supply.

2-20 Installing th e Switch 2 4. Wen n Sie mehrere Switches inst allieren möch ten, dann montieren Sie sie untere ina nder in einer beliebigen Reihenf olge.
3-21 Chapter 3: Making Network Connections Connecting Network Devices This switch is designe d to interc onnect multiple segment s (or collision domains). It can be connected to network cards in PCs and servers, as wel l as to hubs, switches or routers.
3-22 Making Network Co nnections 3 2. If the device is a PC card and the switch is in th e wiring cl oset , att ach the other end of the c able segment to a modul ar wall outlet that is connected to the wiring closet. (See “Wiring Clo set Connections” on the next pag e.
3-23 Fiber Optic SFP Devices 3 Fiber Optic SFP Devices An optional Gigabit SFP trans ceiver (1 000BASE-SX, or 1000BA SE-LX) can be used for a backbo ne connection between s w itches, or for conne cting to a high-speed server . Each multimode fiber optic port req uires 50/125 or 62.
3-24 Making Network Co nnections 3 Connectivity Rules When adding hubs (repeat ers) to your networ k, please foll ow the connectiv ity rules listed in the manua ls for these products.

A-28 T roub leshooting A subnet mask, and def ault gateway . If you have tro ubl e est a blishing a link to the management agent , check to see if you have a valid network connect ion. Then verify tha t you entered the correct IP address. Also, be sure the port t hrough which you are c onnecting to the switch has not been disabled.
B-29 Appendix B: Cables Twisted-Pair Cable and Pin Assignments Cauti on: DO NOT plug a phone jack connector into any RJ-45 port. Use only twisted-pair cables with RJ-45 connectors that conform with FCC standards. For 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX connections, a twisted-pa ir cable must have two pairs of wires.
B-30 Cables B Table B-1. 10/ 100BASE-TX MDI and MDI- X Po rt Pinouts 1000BASE-T Pin Assignme nts All 1000BASE-T port s support automati c MDI/MDI-X operation, so you can use straight-through cabl es for all network connections to PCs or servers, or to other switches or hubs.
B-31 Fiber Standards B test s are specified in the ANSI/TIA/EIA-TSB-95 Bulletin, “Th e Additional T ransmission Performan ce Guidelines for 100 Ohm 4-Pair Category 5 Cabling.” Note that when test ing your cable installa tion, be sure to include all p atch cables between s w itches and end devices.
