3. Using the camera Using the camera buttons Read this sectio n to learn how to configure the ca mera and use the advanced fea tures. 3.1 Using the camera buttons All butt ons are loca ted on the top and the back of the camera.

3.2 Using the camera LCD display Use the LCD display to compose your pictures and vid eos, review pictures and videos stored in memory , and navigate the menu s ystem. Using the camera LCD display Icons are also displayed on th e LCD display that show the current configuration .

3.4 Photo mode Photo mode i s the simplest mode to use when taki ng still Photo mo de pictures. In camera automatically selects the shutter speed and the aperture for you, but y ou can specify other settings. In normal conditi ons this will pr oduce very good quality pictures with very little ef fort.

3.4.3 Fl ash Press the joystic k up to cycle through the six f lash modes. Th e flash mode is indicated b y the flash icon at the top of the LCD screen. The follo wing table explains the five dif ferent f lash Flash m ode Photo mo de modes. Icon Descr iption No flash, the flash n ever fires.
3.4. 4 Macr o When the macro function is enabled, the c amera can focus on very close subjects. Press the joy-stick left to toggle the macro function on and of f. A macro icon is displaye d on the LCD screen to indicate when macro mode is enabled. Note: The macro function works in pho to, scene, and video modes.
3.4.6 Menu options In Phot o mode there are a numb er of menu options available. Photo mo de V iew the menu options by pressing the menu button. Self timer . Use the self timer to add a delay between pressing the Shutter button and the picture being captured .

Auto Focus The AF (auto focus) option can be set to automatic and manual. Photo mo de 1. Press the menu button to display the menu. 2. Use the jo y stick (left and right) to highlight the AF MODE option and press the center joy- stick button to confirm.
Digital Zoom The digital zoom can be turned on or of f. The digital zoom can be used to zoom in on a s ubject, but you may prefer to use only the optical zoom sinc e t h e qualit y of the resulting Photo mo de picture will be higher . 1. Press the menu button to display the menu.
3.5 Scene mode Scene mode is very simple t o use and include s a set of 15 preset progr ams to m ake pictu re taking easy . All th e settings are mad e fo r y o u . Scene mode 3.5.1 Using scene m ode 1. Use the m ode dial to sw itch the c amera to SCN Mode.

3.5.5 Menu options The menu optio ns in scene m ode are limited bec ause they are automatical ly set according to the scene selected. But you can change image size and qu ality settings, see “Pixel” on page 23 and “Quality” on page 24. V ideo m ode T o go back to scene sele ction: 1.

3.6.3 Menu options The menu optio ns in video mode include SELF TIMER, Setup QUALITY , EXP . COMP , and WB . For details of these options, see “Menu options” on page 23. 3.7 Setup Use setup mode to set the came ra configurations to suit y our personal preferen ces.
3.7.3 F ormat Use the form at option to format the camera m emory or memory c ard. Note: When you format the m emory , all data will be deleted. Make sure you ba c k up all your nece ssary files before you perfo rm the format function. T o use the forma t option: 1.
1. Set th e camer a to set up mode using the mode dial. 2. Highlight the power saving Setup icon using the jo ystick (left and right). Press the joystic k button down to confirm. 3. Use the joystick (up and down) to highlight the power saving option you require.
3. Use the joystick (up and down) Setup to highlight the on or of f option. 4. If the on optio n is highlighted, use the jo ystick (left and right) to set the volume level. 5. Press the joystick bu tton down to confirm. 3.7. 7 Langua ge See “Setting the language” on page 9.
3.7.9 Fr e quency Setup The frequency option allo ws you to match the re fresh rate of florescent lighting with the camera. In the United sates it should be set at 60Hz. In Eu rope, it should be 50Hz . T o set the frequency : 1. Set th e camer a to setup mode using the mode dial.
2. Highlight the TV out option Playback mo de using the joysti ck (left and right). Press the joystick button down to confirm. 3. Use the joystick (up and down) to highlight the NTSC option (for USA). 4. Press the joystick bu tton down to confirm. 3.8 Playback mode Use playback mode to view th e pictur es and videos on the camera’ s LCD screen .
Playback mo de T o protect a file: 1. et the camera in play back mode and find the pi cture to be protected on th e screen. 2. Press the men u button to display the menu . 3. Use the joystick (left and right) to highlig ht the PROTECT option and press the joysti ck button in to confirm.
3. Use the joystick (left and Playback mo de right) to highlig ht the ERASE icon and press the joystick button in to confirm. 4. Use the joystick (up and down) to highlig ht the Execu te or Cancel option. Press the joystick button in to confirm. The current pi cture or vi deo wil l be de let e d.
1. Use the joysti ck up to select “S tart” and down to “ “Cancel” 2. Press the joystick button to stop auto play . Print Use the print function to se t DP OF function. Y ou can tag all pictures or just the current pictur e to be prin ted. Y ou can also select how man y copies to print and whether to include the date and time.
The print s ettings are appl ied to the curr ent picture. Y ou can then tak e your memory card to a photo shop Playback mo de and print the p ictures per your own specif ications. DPS DPS (Direct Print) is a standard that enables you to connect the camera directly to a pr inter using the USB interface.
4. Installing the softwar e and drivers Drivers Read this section to learn how to install the driver a nd software f o r the camera. 4.1 Drivers Y ou will only need to install a driver for the camera if your operating sy stem is W ind ows 98SE, or W i ndows ME.
3. Click the install button to install the driv er . 4. Follow the on-screen instructions. 5. Connect the camera to the co mputer using the USB cable provided as described in “Connecting to a computer” on page 13.
