17 W atching TV Finding Programs to W atch The receiver is on channel 414, bu t you want to change the channel to 210. How do you change the channel? Y ou know your team is pl aying, but you’re not sure of the channel. How do you find the game? Y ou’re in the mood for a movie, but you don’t know which one.
Chapter 3 18 Changing Channels C HANGING C HANNELS Using the Up and Dow n Arrows While watching TV , if you want to change the channels one at a time to see what’s on, press the UP and DOWN ARROWS on your remote control. Y ou can also change th e channels the same way using the UP a nd DOWN ARROWS on the receiver front p anel.
Finding Programs to Watch 19 Using the Browse Banner • The Program Guide shows which Favorites List is ac tive. If All Chan is ac tive, the Program Guide shows all the channels. The All Sub list s hows only the channels in your subscription. If you activate another list, the Progr am Guide sh ows only the channels on that list.
Chapter 3 20 Using Search to Find a Program If you select a current program, the receiver will tune to that ch annel. If you ch oose a future program, the Create T imer screen will display .

27 Setting Up Y our Favorites List s Favorites List s One of the benefit s of DISH Network is that you have access to many channels. However , the number of chann els can make it difficul t to find something to watch. When you read this chapter , you’ll learn how to set up and use Favorites Lists.
Chapter 5 28 What are Favorit es Lists? W HAT ARE F AVORITES L IST S ? Favorites Lists are list s of your favorite channel s. Y ou can create and change the lists yourself, adding and removing chann els as you wish. Y our favo rite channels can be grouped in up to four lists.

31 Securing Y our Re ceiver and Account Locks An important concern to pa rents is the ability to protect their children. With high tech television comes greater poten tial for unwa nted progra mming beamed into your home. Use the safeguards described in this chapter to set up and use locks.
Chapter 6 32 What are Locks? W HAT ARE L OCKS ? Locks allow you to p assword-protect programming based on ratings, or on a channel-by-chan nel basis. When you have locked the receiver : • If you try to access a loc ked item or open th e Locks menu, the receiver d isplays a message prompting you to enter the password.

Locks 35 Hiding Adul t Content H IDING A DULT C ONTENT When you h ide adult ch annels, you prevent the Program Guide, Themes list s, and the Browse Banner from displaying adult channels. It also prevent s anyone from choosing these cha nnels by using the UP or DOWN ARROWS or the remote control NUMBER PAD.
Chapter 6 36 Tips T IP S • If the receiver displays a message prompting you to enter a p assword, the receiver is locked. • When you lock a rating , you also lock all oth er mo re restrict ive ratings. For example, if you lock PG 13 rated programs, th en all programs wit h the R, NC-17, and NR/AO ratings are also locked.

Chapter 8 40 Tim er s T IMERS A timer is your instruction telling the satellite receiver the programs you want to view in the future. For most VCR timers, you select a specific progr am on a specific channe l, and tell the satellite receiver how often you want to record th at program.
Timers 41 Timers When a T imer S t art s a Recording For two minu tes before a timer starts a recordin g, the receiv er may displa y a digital countdown on the TV screen. This symbol disappears when the progr am begins. While the symbol is displayed, you may do one of the follo wing: • Press CANCEL to clear the symbol from the TV screen.
