6 A separate electrical circuit should be used for your machines. This cir cuit should not be less than #12 wire and should be protected with a 20 Amp time lag fuse. If an extension cor d is used, use only 3-wire extension cords which have 3- prong gr ounding type plugs and matching receptacle which will accept the machine’ s plug.
7 EXTENSION CORDS Use proper extension cor ds. Make sure your extension cord is in good condition and is a 3-wir e extension cord which has a 3-pr ong grounding type plug and matching receptacle which will accept the machine’ s plug. When using an extension cord, be sur e to use one heavy enough to carry the current of the machine.
8 FOREWORD Delta ShopMaster DP400 is a 16½" drill press with a 120/240 V , 3/4 H.P . induction motor , a flexible work lamp and a tilting table with c-clamp edges and diagonal slots. The Delta ShopMaster Model DP400 has a 5/8” capacity chuck and a 3 3/8” stroke.

THE PL YWOOD BASE MUST BE SECURED TO THE FLOOR OR SUPPORTING SURF ACE IF THERE IS ANY TENDENCY OF THE DRILL PRESS TO VIBRA TE, SLIDE OR WALK DURING NORMAL OPERA TION. 11 6. Assemble the column (A) Fig. 6, to the base (B) using the four M10x40mm hex head screws (C), thr ee of which are shown.

NOTE: Household oven cleaner can effectively r emove any sub- stance from the chuck; however , carefully follow the manufacturer's safety rules concerning its use.

ST AR TING AND STOPPING DRILL PRESS The switch (A) Fig. 20, is located on the front of the drill press head. T o turn the drill press “ON” move the switch up to the “ON” position. T o tur n the drill press “OFF” move the switch down to the “OFF” position.

17 SPINDLE SPEEDS T welve spindle speeds are available on the drill press. Fig. 27, illustrates which steps of the pulleys the belts must be placed to obtain the twelve speeds available.
18 DRILLING HOLES TO DEPTH Where a number of holes ar e to be drilled to exactly the same depth, a depth stop is provided and is used as follows: DISCONNECT MACHINE FROM POWER SOURCE.
19 Fig. 32 Y our drill press is to be used with drill bits with a shank of 5/8" or less in diameter . The following will give the inexperi enced operator a start on common drill press operations. Use scrap material for practice to get a feel of the machine before attempting r egular work.
20 BORING IN WOOD T wist drills, although intended for metal drilling, may also be used for boring holes in wood. However , machine spur bits are generally pr eferred for working in wood; they cut a flat bottom hole and are designed for r emoval of wood chips.
