Whi l e i t i s pos s ib le to cha nge the MAC addres s of a n e two rk d e vice , it i s n ot comm on pr a ct ice to do so. F or thi s re a so n , MAC addresses are consid ered permanent. IP addresses ar e easily changed, so MAC addresses are a m ore reliabl e met hod of iden t ifying a spec ific dev ice o n a n et work.
