4 Introduction Congratulations on your purchase of the DCS-900W Internet Camera! The DCS-900W is a versatile and unique solution for your small office or home. Unlike a PC Camera, the DCS-900W is a stand-alone system with a built-in CPU and Web server that trans- mits high quality video images for monitoring.
5 Features & Benefit s (continued) Web Configuration Using a standard W eb browser , Administrators can configure and manage the Internet Camera directly from its own Web page via the Intranet or Internet.
6 EthernetCable Connector The DCS-900W features an RJ-45 connector for connections to 10Base-T Ethernet cabling or 100Base-TX Fast Ethernet cabling (which should be Category 5 UTP cable). The port supports the NWay protocol, allowing the DCS-900W to automatically detect or negotiate the transmission speed of the network.

8 LEDS LED stands for L ight- E mitting D iode. Power LED The Power LED is positioned on the right side of the DCS-900W lens. S teady green confirms that the DCS-900W is powered ON . Note: There are three settings for the Power LED for monitoring purposes: Normal / Off / Dummy .
9 Hardware Inst allation Connect the Ethernet Cable Connect the included Ethernet cable to the network cable connector located on the back panel of the DCS-900W and attach it to the network.
10 Security T o ensure the highest security and prevent unauthorized usage of the DCS-900W , the Administrator has the exclusive privilege to create all users. The DCS-900W supports multi-level password protection/access that can be restricted by the Administrator for defined users who have a User Name and User Password .
11 Using the Setup Wizard Follow the simple steps below to run the Setup Wizard to guide you quickly through the installation process. Click Next Insert the D-Link DCS-900W CD into your CD-ROM drive.
12 Using the Setup Wizard (continued) Click Next Click Finish Click Ye s.
13 Y ou must change the Admin ID and Password immediately to protect your camera against unauthorized access. By default, the Admin ID and Password are blank. T o change the Admin ID and Password, select both Change boxes and enter a New ID and New Password .
14 Using the Setup Wizard (continued) Click Next The Connection Mode depends on how your camera is connected to your network. Click Infrastructure for use with a router or Adhoc for a peer-to-peer connection. The Network Name, Wireless Channel, and Encryption Keys MUST correspond with your wireless network settings for the camera to work.
15 Using the Setup Wizard (continued) Click Link Y our setup is now complete! Click Link to launch your Web browser and view your images. If you need to make any changes, click Back to modify your camera settings. Otherwise, click Restart to save and apply your settings.
16 The IP Address of your camera must correspond with your network settings for you to access the camera. If you are unsure of what these settings should be, please check with your network administrator . By default, the Admin ID and Password are blank.
17 Web Configuration After completing the Setup Wizard, you are ready to use your camera. The Web configuration utility is designed to easily access and configure your DCS-900W . If you would like to open the configuration page from a W eb Browser , enter the IP address that you assigned to your DCS-900W .
18 Configuration Click on Setup from the Home screen to access the settings required for the DCS- 900W. DCS-900W Configuration (continued) There will be several options in the Configuration page to ch.
19 Advanced > System The System menu allows you to configure and set up your DCS-900W for operation. If you already set up your camera using the Setup Wizard, you may view/change your settings here.
20 DCS-900W Configuration (continued) Advanced > System The default settings are as follows: ! Default IP – 192.168.0.20 ! Subnet Mask – 255.255.255.0 ! Default Gateway – 0.0.0.0 Camera Name: This field is used for entering a descriptive name for the camera.
21 DCS-900W Configuration (continued) Advanced > System Important This options is recommended only for advanced users and network administrators since it may be difficult to determine the IP Address of the unit after the IP Address has been automatically asssigned.
22 DNS IP Address: DNS (Domain Name Service) is an Internet service that translates domain names (ie. www .dlink.com) into IP Addresses (ie. 192.168.0.
23 DCS-900W Configuration (continued) Advanced > System Wireless Interface: Connection Mode: Use the Connection Mode to determine the type of wireless communication for the Internet Camera. There are three choices: Infrastructure mode , 802.1 1 Adhoc mode and Adhoc mode .
24 DCS-900W Configuration (continued) Advanced > System LED Control: The LED control allows you to set up the LED illumination as desired. This feature provides flexibility when surveillance activity is ON .There are three options as follows: ! Normal Power -LED indicator is steady ON .
25 Open Second Port: The Open Second Port option is used when multiple cameras are being installed on a network OR if you need to use a port other than the default Port 80. If you are installing only one camera and wish to use the default ports, you do not have to open a second port on your camera.
26 Apply/Cancel: After making sure all your settings are correct, click on the Apply button to store the settings. Y ou can alternatively click on the Cancel icon to restore all settings to the values last saved to or retrieved from the DCS-900W . Note: If you are installing multiple DCS-900W and wish to use the default 192.
27 Single Camera Inst allation If you are installing a single camera on your network the installation is an easy 4–step procedure: 1 ) Identify Y our Camera on the Network 2 ) Assign a Local IP Addr.
28 1) Identify Y our Camera on the Network Once you are logged into the camera via a web browser on your network PC,click on the Advanced T ab, and select System . Enter a unique Camera Name and Location . These settings are important if you are installing several cameras on your network.
29 Open a Second Port for Y our Camera Assigning and opening second port in the DCS-900W ( For Installing Multiple Cameras) Opening ports will allow users to view the camera via the Internet. The ports that are opened must be unique for each camera in order to successfully view the images remotely .
30 ROUTER SET -UP AND INST ALLA TION The following steps generally apply to any router that you have on your network. The D-Link DI-614+ is used as an example to clarify the configuration process. Determine Y our Router ’ s W AN IP Address Y our W AN IP Address information will be listed here.
31 ASSIGNING AND OPENING VIRTUAL SERVER PORTS 5) Open Virtual Server Port s T o Enable Remote Image V iewing Opening V irtual Server Ports on Y our Router The Virtual Server Ports of your router must be opened for remote access to your camera. This is also referred to as port forwarding.
32 Viewing Y our Camera After all settings have been entered correctly , a user inside or outside your network will have access to the camera through a standard web browser . T o access from the Internet, simply type in the S tatic IP Address of the router given to you by your ISP , a colon, and the port number that you gave your camera.
33 Video Resolution: Select the desired video resolution format: 320x240 (default) or 640x480. Compression Rate: Select the desired compression rate ranging from very low to very high.
34 Light Frequency: Adjust the light frequency to suit your area of operation. 50 Hz and 60 Hz variants are available to accommodate the different light frequencies found in USA (60 Hz) and Europe (50 Hz) for optimal image quality . Apply/Cancel: After making sure all your settings are correct, click on Apply to store the settings.
35 Add User User Name: Enter the user name in this field. A maximum of 8 user names are allowed, however each user name must be different. Each user name can be used as a group. For example, if the Username is Guest and the User Password is Guest, anyone can access the DCS-900W using this information.
36 DateTime: Select Synchronized with Time Server and the time will be based on the GMT setting. This is the default setting for the DCS-900W . Using a time server with your camera is recommended for time/date accuracy for your recorded video images and is critical for surveillance applications.
37 Protocol: T wo options are available for linking with the Time Server . The default setting is NTP . Select the time for the Linux time server . TimeZone: The System administrator must select the time zone for the region. Please refer to the Appendix for the time zone selection table.
38 S t atus The St atus menu displays information about your DCS-900W . Click on Status and the Information screen will appear as illustrated below: The Information table provides detailed information about the DCS-900W such as the Model Name, Firmware V ersion, Mac Address, and IP Address .
39 Completing Y our Camera Configuration Once the configuration is completed, click on Home to return to the Home screen and select the desired Viewing Image using either ActiveX Mode or Java Mode as described in the next section.
40 Java Click on Java from the Home screen to access the video images from the Internet Explorer or Netscape browser as illustrated below: DCS-900W Configuration (continued) Location - The location of the DCS- 900W will be displayed when the Location field is changed in the Web Configuration settings under Advanced > System .
41 IPView Lite software is included for administrators to manage up to 4 DCS-900Ws remotely , record to hard drive, and configure advanced settings for the DCS-900W . IPView Lite is a complete software management tool for the DCS-900W and includes all configurable settings available in the web configuration utility .

43 Click Next Click Continue Anyway If your sound card or video card has not passed Windows Logo testing, this window will appear . If there are previously installed target files that are newer than the source files, do NOT overwrite them.
44 IPView Lite Application Inst allation (continued) After successfully installing the IPView Lite, the application program for the DCS- 900W is automatically installed to ProgramsIPV iewLite Directory . T o start running the IPView Lite click on windows S t art > Programs > IPV iewLite > IPViewLite.
45 Once logged in, the IPView Lite application is executed and the IPView Lite interface will appear in the default List View format: IPView Lite Application Inst allation (continued).
46 List view format IPView Lite allows you to manage your cameras by enabling you to search, configure and preview all the DCS-900Ws from one location.
47 T o change the administrator User Name and Password, select T ools > Options . The Options dialog box will appear (see below). Change Password When IPView Lite is used for the first time, it is highly recommended that the Administrator change the User Name and Password for security purposes.
48 How to Change the IP Address Changing the IP Address T o change an IP Address for a camera, select Camera > Add. An Add Camera dialog box will appear (see below) . Click on Browse . The Browse Camera dialog box will appear with a blank screen (see below).
49 How to Change the IP Address Click Search . IPView Lite will detect and search all the available cameras that are installed on the local area network (example below .
50 Note: Only cameras on your local area network can be located using Browse in IPView Lite. If you want to add a camera via the Internet, you must enter in a physical IP Address.
51 Click on Search . IPView Lite will detect and search for all the available cameras that are installed on the local area network. How to Add a Camera Highlight the camera you wish to add and click on Add . The Add Camera dialog box will appear once again with the IP Address entered.
52 If the Login Camera dialog box appears, make sure to enter the correct Username and Password . Click OK. The camera will be added into IPView Lite, in list format. If the Username and Password are entered incorrectly , the camera will not be added into IPView Lite.
53 How to Format the Camera view From the menu bar select V iew > 4 Cameras . (See below . ) The icon on the upper left corner of the screen will appear with the camera number that is being displayed.
54 How to Rot ate the V ideo view In View Mode format, click on the icon located on the upper left corner of the screen and a pop-up menu will appear . Once you click Rotate Right or Rotate Left in the menu, the video will rotate 90 degrees to the right or left.
55 T o start recording with a camera you must highlight the camera you want to use from the list view format. From the menu bar select Camera > St art .
56 Once you have completed the initial configuration of the DCS-900W using the Web- based interface, you can review or change your configuration using either the Web- based configuration utility or the Property Settings in the DCS-900W IPView Lite. T o access the Property Settings menu, select Camera > Property from the main menu .
57 IP Assignment If you need to change your IP Address, select the IP Address t ab in the Camera property window . There are two options: Manually Assign or Assign Automatically Using . Please refer to theDCS-900W Configuration section: Advanced – System on P .

65 Recording Options Camera Property Settings > Recording Manual Recording If the Manual Recording option is chosen, you must manually start recording in the List view of the DCS-900W in the Menu Bar or by clicking on the Record Icon. Choose Round the Clock to enable the DCS-900W to record all video frames continuously to your hard drive.
66 Scheduled Recording Select Schedule Recording to record based on specific times and dates. Click Schedule Setting to set the time and date for recording your files. Select By Date and enter in the dates, Start , and Stop Times. The camera will start to record according to the specified date and time period entered.
67 IPV iew Lite - Getting S t arted (continued) Camera Property Settings > Recording The Motion T rigger Recording option can be used to record based on motion. The DCS-900W will begin to record any time it detects motion. Click on Sensitivity Setting to set the sensitivity levels for the DCS-900W .
68 Camera Property Settings > Recording File Path The software will create a folder in the Recording File Path specified and record the video images with the file name by date and time. Multiple file paths can be specified to store your video images.
69 Menu Bar The menu bar makes it easier to navigate IPView Lite. All Management functions can be accessed from the menu bar . Menu Bar > File New > Opens a new camera list. Cameras must then be added to the list for configuration . Open > Opens saved camera lists.
70 View on the menu bar provides users with management capabilities for Columns, List, Camera and Refresh . Y ou can view the Camera in 1 Camera or 4 Camera mode. The V iew menu bar is pictured below . Columns Viewing Format Y ou can view the format in List view .
71 List View All the cameras and their properties, such as the camera name, IP Address, user name, and location, will be displayed in the list view . Note: Right click on any camera to bring up a menu of actions you can apply to the selected camera. Double-clicking on the desired camera will bring up the Property dialog box.
72 IPV iew Lite- Getting S t arted (continued) Camera on the menu bar provides options to manage the camera. Add up to 4 additional Cameras for viewing. The Camera menu also allows you to Delete a camera, manage the Property , Enable real-time video capture, or take a Snap shot image.
73 System Configuration . Account The account menu is for administrators to change user name and password. This menu allows you to set overwrite options to overwrite old recorded files with new recorded files. Check the Load Last Configuration When Program Starts to load all your configured settings each time you run IPView Lite .
74 Clicking on By HDD Reserved Space allows new files to overwrite old files. Y ou can reserve 500MB to 5GB HDD for the program. Click on By Time (Time: 1-240 Hours) to overwrite old files with new files once the time frame that you specify has been reached.
75 Networking Configuration If your LAN uses a Proxy server to connect to the Internet, select Use a proxy for HTTP Protocol , and click OK . If you choose this option, you must enter the IP address and port that your Proxy server uses to connect to the Internet.
