2 TRACTOR PREPARATION Remove the upp er crating material fr om the shipping pallet, and cut a ny bands or tie straps securing t he trac- tor to the p allet.

4 13. Mow only in daylight or g ood artificial light. 14. Do not operate the m achine while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. 15. Watch for traffic when operating nea r or crossing roadways. 16. Use extra care when loading or unloading the machine into a traile r or truck.
5 5. Never allow children under 14 years old to operate the machin e. Children 14 years and o ver should only operate the m achine under close parental supervision and proper instruction. 6. Use extra care when approaching blind corners, shrubs, tr ees or ot her objec ts that ma y obscure your vision of a child or other hazard.

8 TO THE OWNER This Operator’s Manual is an import ant part of your new tractor. The inf ormation cont ained in this manual has been prepared in detail t o help you bette r understand th e features, corre ct operation, a djustments, and maintena nce of your tractor.

11 W ARNING: Never fi ll the fuel tank when the engine is running. If the engine is ho t from recently run ning, allow to cool for several minutes befor e refueling.
12 N. Choke Contr ol The choke knob contro ls the position of the en gine choke. Pull the kno b out to choke the en gine; push the knob in to open the choke. O . P arking Brake Enga gement Lever The parking brake enga gement lever is located o n the front/left of the seat box f rame, and is used t o engage the parkin g brake.
13 BEFORE OPERATING YOUR TRACTOR • Before you o perate the t ractor, study t his manual carefully to familiarize yourself with the opera- tions of all th e instruments and contr ols. It has been prepared to help you operate and main tain your tractor efficiently.

If after a few at tempts the en gine fails to sta rt, do not keep trying t o start it wit h the choke closed as this will cause flooding and make starting more difficult. • As the engine warms up, gradually pu sh the choke knob downward to open th e choke.
15 • Adjust the op erator’s seat to the most comfortable position that allows you to operate the controls . See seat adju stment in the ADJUSTMENTS section . • Release th e parking brake. • Move the RH and LH dr iv e control le vers inward in the neutral pos ition.
16 - To turn to the right, move the right drive control lever rearwa rd of the left lever. See Figure 12. Figure 12 • The grea ter the fore -to-aft distan ce between the two levers, the sharper the tractor will turn.
17 Executing a Zer o T urn W ARNING: When executing a ze ro turn, the tractor MUST BE STOPPED. Executing a zero turn while the tractor is moving can sign ificantly re duce your control of the tra ctor and will cause severe turf defa cement to occur.
18 USING THE MOW ER DECK W ARNING: Make certain the area to be mowed is free of debris, st icks, stones, wire or other objects that ca n be thrown by the rota ting bl ades. IMPORTANT: Do not enga ge the mower deck whe n lowered in gr ass. Premature wear and possible failur e of the ‘V” belt and PTO cl utch will result.
19 SECTION 3: ADJUSTMENTS ADJUSTING THE OPERATORS SEAT The seat m ay be adjus ted fore and aft for the comfor t of the operator . To adjust the seat proceed as follows: • Pivot the seat p artially forward a nd hold in a position tha t allows you to access the adjustment knobs on the bot tom of the seat.
20 SECTION 4: MAINTENANCE ENGINE MAINTENANCE Engine maintenance pr ocedures and schedules ca n be found in the engine manual f ound at the back of this manua l. Follow thes e schedules for perfor ming engine maintenance. Using the Engine Oil Drain V alve • Locate the oil drain va lve on the left sid e of the engine.
21 BATTERY REMOVAL W ARNING: Battery posts, terminals and related access ories contain l ead and lead compounds. Wash hands after handling. The battery is lo cated on the rig ht/rear of the t ractor beneath the seat box frame.
22 • Refer to the "MOWER DEC K" section later in this manual for deck lubricatio n procedur es. • Periodically lubricate a ll other pivot points with a quality lubricating oil. TIRE MAINTENANCE Check the tire a ir pressure af ter every 50 hour s of operation or we ekly.
23 TRACTOR HIGH SPEED TRACKING If the tractor tr acks to one side with both dr ive control levers fully forward, adju st the control levers a s follows: • Check for proper and balanced air pressure in both front and rear tires. Refill tires if necessary.
24 TRACTOR STORAGE If your tr actor is not going to be o perated for an extended p eriod of time (thirty days to approxim ately six months), the tra ctor should be pr epared for stor - age. Store the tractor in a dr y and protect ed location. If stored outside, cover th e tractor (including t he tires) to protect it from the elements.
25 SECTION 5: MOWER DEC K This section contains remo val, installation, adjust- ment, and maintenance infor mation for the 50-inch mower deck. Instructions fo r installation and removal of the optional mu lching plug are loca ted at the end of this section.
26 • Route the ba ckside of the belt a round the f ixed idler pulley of the deck. Refer to Figure 27. • Insert a 1/2 inch r atchet into the squa re hole of the deck idler brac ket.

28 Mower Blade Care W ARNING: Before performing any main- tenance, place the PTO swit ch in the “OFF” position, en gage the parking brake lever, turn the ignition key to th e “OFF” position and remove th e key from the switch. When se rvicing the mowe r deck, be careful not to cut yourself on the sharpened bla des.
29 REPLACING THE DECK DRIVE BELT • Remove the deck from beneath t he tractor, (refe r to Deck Removal on pag e 25). • Remove the hex t apping screws se curing the belt covers to the de ck and remo ve the belt f rom the spindle pulleys. Refer to Figur e 35.
