5 • Never operate the machine while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or while fat igued. • When working in coop eration with others, let them know in adva nc e what you are doing . • Always sit in the tractor seat when starting the engine or o perating co ntrols.
6 • Never try to ge t on or off a moving tractor. • Never park the t ractor on a steep incline . • Do not run the engine in an enclosed building without adequa te ventilation. Exhaust fumes can cause deat h. • Pull only fr om the dr awbar. Make certain the drawbar pin is locked in place.
7 • Always slow the tractor down before tu rning. Turning at high sp eed may tip the tractor over. • To avoid upsets, drive the tractor with care and at a safe speed. Use extra caution when operating over rough ground, when crossin g ditches or slope s, and when turning corners.
8 4. OPERATING THE PTO • Disengage the PTO, sto p the engine, and wait until all moving components have completely stopped before dismou nting the tractor and connecting, d isconnecting , adjusting, c leaning, or servicing any PTO driven equipment. • Do not wear loose fitting clothing when operating th e PTO or when near rotating equipment.
9 • Engine components becom e hot during operation and can cause a burn. Allow to cool down befor e touching. • Before "jump star ting" a dead battery, read and follow all of the instructions. • Do not attem pt to mount a tir e on the rim.

13 B. Light Switch Turn the light switch one click clockwise to illuminate the low beam headlig hts and the taillights. Turn the light switch on e more click clockwise to illuminate the high beam headlights.
14 To set the parkin g brake proceed as follows: • Lock the right an d left brake pedals togethe r using the brake lock. Refer to Brake Lock in Floorboard and Fender Mounted Cont rols later in this section. • Fully depress an d ho ld the br ak e pedals.

16 FLOOR BOARD AND FENDER MOUNTED CONTROLS Figure 1 1 A. Clutch P edal When the clutch pedal is fully depressed, the tractor’s drive clutch is disengaged. Fully and rapid ly depress the clutch pedal before shiftin g the main shift lever, the Hi-Lo R ange lever, o r the forw ard/reverse s hift lever.
17 C. Foot Thr ot tle The foot throttle is interlocked with the hand th rottle. Depressing th e foot throttle increa ses the engine speed. Full engine spee d control can be obtained with the foot throt tle if the hand throttle is in the f ull rearward (slow) p osition.
18 Differen tial Lock P edal Located at the rear of the right fl oor board, the differ- ential lock is used to gain ad ditional traction when operating the tr actor on wet or loose soil. When the pedal is depressed the re ar wheels of the tractor are prevented fr om rotating indepen dently of one another.
19 Seat Adjustment Le ver The seat adjustment lever is lo cated beneath th e left side of the seat. This lever is used to adjust the seat forward or b ackward to the desired opera ting position. See Figure 19 . Figure 19 Mid PT O Lever The tractor’s Mi d PTO is used power implements designed to be oper ated at 2000 RPM.
20 SECTION 2: OPERATION ROLLOVER PROTECTIVE STRUCTURE (ROPS) This tractor is e quipped with a foldable Rollover Protection Stru cture (ROPS) and seat belts. When used together they ar e effective in reducing injuries to the operato r in the event of an accidental tra ctor rollover.
21 • Tighten the fue l cap securely, and immedi ately wipe up any spilled fuel. • To minimize conde nsation, keep the fuel tank as full as possible without filling to capacity. It is a good practice to fill the f uel tank at the end of the day to reduce overnight con densation.
22 • Set the thrott le lever in approximately the middle position (40hp). See Fig ure 24. Figure 24 • Turn the ignit ion switch to the "ON/P reheat" position. R efer to Figur e 24 . NOTE: Some of the instru ment panel lamps will light momentarily to indicate they are functioning.
23 • Fully depress the clutch pedal and proceed as follow s: - Shift the Forw ard/Reverse Shif t Lever to desire d direction . See Figure 26. Figure 26 - Shift the Main Shift Leve r to desired gear spee d. See Figure 27 . - Shift the Hi-Lo Ra nge Shift Lever to desir ed range.
24 • If leaving the t ractor, turn the ignition key to the OFF positio n and remov e the key. • If parking on an inclin e, chock the wheels to prevent accidental rolling of the tractor. TURNING THE TRACTOR W ARNING: Turning the tractor while traveling at a fa st speed may cause the tractor to overturn .
25 CHECK WHILE OPERATING While operating the tractor, regular ly check the gauges and warning li ghts on the instrument pane l to ensure the tractor is functioning prop erly. Coolant T empera ture Light Regularly check that the ga uge needle is within the normal op erating ra nge.
26 USING THE DIFFERENTIAL LOCK Depressing the differe ntial lock pedal engages a mechanism in the transmission that locks the differentia l. This prevents the rear wh eels from rotating inde pendently of each other and provides constant po wer to both rear wheels when add itional traction is need ed.
27 Figure 31 • After determining a desir ed working position using one, or bot h, controls, the stop bo lts can be used to ensure the levers are returned to the ir selected positions. Loose n the wing screws and slide the stop(s) again st one (or both levers) and re-tighten the wing screws.
28 USING THE THREE POINT H ITCH W ARNING: Always disengage the PTO, stop the engine, and set the parking brake before dismou nting the tractor to connect, disconnect, or adjust thre e point hitch mounted implements. Never stand between the rea r wheels and the implement when attaching and adjust ing the implemen t .
29 USING REMOTE HYDRAULICS (OPTIONAL) The tractor can be equipped with a remote hydraulic system for powerin g hydraulically driven implements that are appr oved for usage on the tractor. W ARNING: To a void personal injury, stop the tractor engine a nd relieve pressure from the hydraul ic system before connecting or disconnecting lines.
30 SECTION 3: ADJUSTMENTS ADJUSTING THE SEAT For the comfor t of the operator, a single lever adjustable seat is p rovided to set the fore to aft position of the seat. Adjust the seat to the most comfortable posit ion that allows you to operate all controls and pedals.
31 • Tighten the adjusting bolt as necessary to remove the pla y from the front axle , then retighte n the jam nut. • Lower the front of the tractor to the ground . ADJUSTING THE FAN BELT TENSION If the fan belt becomes loose, the engine may overheat and/ or the battery may not charge.
32 ADJUSTING THE MICRO SWITCH HEIGHT The PTO micro switc h, located inside the right fe nder adjacent the positi on control lever, is initially set so that the PTO will disengage when the 3-point hitch lower links are raise d to pres cribed height.
33 • Raise and support the rear of the tractor. • Adjust the tread widths as shown by cha nging the mounting re lationship of the wheel disc t o the rim mounting bracket s and/or the relationship of the dish of th e wheel disc to the axle. See Figure 48.
34 SECTION 4: MAINTENANCE The service life and relia bility of any machine depends upon the care it is given. Proper lubrica tion and maintenance is a vital pa rt of that care. Using the Lubrication an d Maintenance Chart as a guide, moni- tor the hourmete r on the instrument panel to ensure the required main tenance procedures are per formed.

36 W ARNING: Use care when servici ng any component in the en gine area. If the engine has recently been ope rated, components will be h ot and could cause burns.
37 • Use No. 2 diesel fuel. Use No. 1 diesel fuel if the temperature is below 15 ° F (-10°C). • The fuel tank capacity is approximat ely 10.6 ga l. Do not overfill. Bleeding the Fuel System W ARNING: Do not ble ed the fuel system when the engin e is hot.
38 • Stop the eng ine before checking the fuel lin e hoses and clamps. • Check that the fuel line ho se clamps are snugly securing the hoses to their respective fittings. Replace any damaged clamps. • Check the fuel hoses fo r wear or deterioration, and any damaged hoses sho uld be replace immediately.
39 Changing Engine Oil and Filter The engine oil and oil filte r (located on the right/front of the eng ine) should be ch anged after the f irst 35 hours of opera tion, then at 100 hours and eve ry 100 hours therea fter. Refer to th e LUBRICATION TABLE for the quant it y and type of oil needed.
40 TRANSMISSION OIL AND OIL FILTER Check ing the T ransmission Oil Level Check the hydro transm ission/hydra ulic system oi l level before each use. Check the oil level only while the engine is stopped an d the tractor is standing on a level surface.
41 • Move the drain pan beneath t he filter, then remove the filte r by tu rning it counterclockwise using a filter wrench to loosen. See Figur e 61. Figure 61 • Use a clean rag to clean the metal su rface of the filter base wher e t he filter gasket makes contact.
42 SERVICING THE AIR CLEANER Check the air cleaner dust cup and element befor e each use. Clean the dust o ut of the cup and blow off the elemen t weekly. Replac e the elemen t after ever y 100 hours of op eration. NOTE: The air cleaner uses a dry element, never apply oil.
43 SERVICING THE COOLING SYSTEM Before each use, t he engine coolant level in the overflow reservoir sh ould be checked to ensure it is within the oper ating range. Engine coolant absorbs heat from the engine and transfers the hea t to the air flowing throug h the radiator.
44 Changing the Coolant The anti freeze and water coola nt solution should be changed every year. The cooling system capacity is approximat ely 2.4 gallons. W ARNING: It is dangerous to remove the radiator cap whe n the system is hot. Allow the sy stem to cool before removing the radiator cap.

46 SERVICING THE BATTERY General Battery Informatio n W ARNING: • Battery posts, term inals and related accessories contain lead and lead compounds. Wash hands after handling. • Battery acid must be hand led with great care, as contact with it ca n burn an d blister the skin.
47 • Maintain the ba ttery electrolyte level in each cell. Keep each cell filled to th e bottom of the ring in each vent hole. Fill with distilled water if necessary. See Figure 75. Figure 75 Re-charging the Batter y • Remove the vent ca ps from the battery.

49 TRACTOR STORAGE If the tractor will not be ope rated for two or three months or longer, perform the following m easures before sto ring. • Repair or repla ce worn or broken parts and tighten all fasteners. • Change the eng ine oil and run the engine about five minutes to circulat e oil throughout the engine block.

52 When Engine Sudd enly Stops IMPORTANT: W hen the e ngine h as suddenl y sto pped, allow th e engi ne to dec ompress ; then try t o turn the engine o ver by light ly pulli ng on the fa n belt. If the eng ine turns easily w ithout any a bnormal r esistanc e, the cause of the trou ble is usu ally lack of fuel or a bad noz zle.
