17 E. T ransmission Hi/Lo Range Shift Lever The Hi/Lo rang e shift lever is located on the r ight fender. The lever has two spe ed range s ettings an d a neutral po sition. Th e lever must be sh ifted into either th e high or low ra nge prior to depr essing the for w ard/ revers e pedal to driv e the t racto r.
18 SECTION 2: O PERA TION ROLLOVER PROTECTIVE S TRUCTURE (ROPS) This tract or is equipped with a fold able Rollov er Protec tion Structure ( ROPS) and se at belts. When used toge ther they are effective in r educing inju ries to the oper ator in the eve nt of an accide ntal tractor rollover .
19 SAFETY INTERLOCK S YSTEM This tractor is equipped wi th a safety in terlock system for the protection of the operator. If the interlo ck system s hould eve r malfunct ion, do not operate t he tractor.
20 STARTING THE ENGINE W ARNING: Alw ays sit i n th e oper ato r’s seat when starting the t ractor, Never attempt to s tart the engine while standing beside the tractor. W ARNING: Nev er use starting fluids, such as ether, as a starting ai d. Severe engine damage or fire could r esult.
21 • Turn the i gnition key to the “OFF” position an d remove the key fr om the ig nition s witch. NOTE: Alw ays rem ov e the key from th e ignitio n switch to pr event accid ental startin g or battery discha rge if the equ ipment is left unatt ended.

25 USING THE THREE POINT HITCH W ARNING: Always disengage the PTO, stop the engine, and set the par king brake before dismounting the tractor to connect, disconnect, or adjust three point hitch mounted implements. Use the r ear three point hitch system to attach three po int mounte d implements , which are normall y driven by the r ear PTO.

27 SECTION 3: ADJUSTMENTS ADJUSTING THE SEAT For the com fort of the oper ator, a sing le lever adjustab le seat is provi ded to set the fore to aft positio n of the s eat. Adju st the se at to th e most comforta ble positio n that allows you to operate all control s and ped als .
28 • The leng th of the upper hit ch link is nor mally determi ned by the desi gn of each implemen t. To adjust the u pper hitch link , loosen the lock - ing lev er and tur n the adj ustment tube as shown i n Figure 28. Af ter the ap propriate length is attaine d, tighten the locki ng lever.
29 ADJUSTING THE BRAKES The tract or brakes are adjusted at the fact ory and should ex perience min imal wea r if the tractor is operated normally . However, a ll brake pads are subjec t to wear and at som e point th e b ra ke link ag e may hav e to be adjust ed.
30 SECTION 4: MAINTENANCE The service life and rel iabilit y of any mach ine depend s upon t he care it is gi ven. Prope r lubr ica- tion a nd mainten ance is a vital pa rt of that ca re.

33 ACCESSING THE EN GINE COMPARTMENT W ARNING: If the tractor has be en recently operated, engine surf aces (including the radiator) will be HOT. Allow the engine to cool before open- ing the hood, or use extreme caution to avoid burns when the hood is open.
34 BATTERY REMOVAL W ARNING: Battery posts, terminals and related acce ssories contain le ad and lead compounds. Wash hands after handling. The battery is located at the front of th e tractor beneath the hood, jus t forward of the radia tor. To remove the ba ttery: • Open the tractor hoo d as descr ibed in the previo us sub-se ction.
35 HEAD LIGHT BULB REP LACEMENT The tracto r is equipp ed with four he adlight b ulbs. If one of th e bulbs should burn out, replace th e bulb as follo ws: • Fully r aise the ho od so th at the hood prop cylind ers hold th e hood in t he raised pos ition.
36 SERVICING E LECTRICAL SY STEM Fuses are in stalled to protect t he tractor’ s electrical system from d amage c aused b y excess ive am per- age. A lways u se the same capaci ty fuse for replaceme nt. If the electrical system does not func- tion , chec k for blown fuses .
37 Hazard Light Flasher Relay The flasher re lay control s the on / off flashi ng of the hazard lights. If the hazard lights do no t functio n proper ly, the flash er rel ay is prob ably faul ty. Replace t he relay as fo llows: • Remov e the dash p anel inse rt by removin g the two screws .
38 CHANGING TRANSMISS ION / HYDRAULIC SYSTE M OIL Change the hydrosta tic transm ission / hydr aulic system oil and fi lters a fter every 20 0 hours o f operatio n.
39 NOTE: A large volu me of oil may drain from th e transmiss ion whil e performin g the 25 hour ch ange of the oil filte rs. If collected in a clean container and kept free of debris, this oil may be reuse d in the trans mission/ h ydraulic s ystem.
40 Check Final Reduction Gear Case Oil Check the oi l level at the two final redu ction gear case fill plu gs. • Locate the fill plugs ap proximatel y midw ay up on the fr ont of t he righ t and left gear ca ses. See Figure 47. • Remove the fill plugs and check that th e oil leve l is at th e botto m edge of the fill port opening.
41 LUBRICATION OF MAIN DRIVE SHAFT Lubricate bo th ends of the m ain drive sh aft after every 50 hours of o peration as follows: • The front end of the dri ve shaft c an be access ed from u nder the hood, an d the rear end by rem oving the six s crews and the center fend er cover.
42 • DO NOT place any part of your body beneat h the trac tor or star t the trac tor engine while th e tractor is raised o ff the ground w ith a jack. TRACTOR STORAGE If your trac tor is not goin g to be operated fo r an extended period of time (thi rty days t o approx i- mately six mont hs), the tractor shou ld be prepared for storage .
43 SECTION 5: ENGINE MAINTENANCE W A RNING: Use ca re when servicing any component in the engine a rea. If the engine has recently been operated, components will be hot and could cause burns.
44 ADDING ENGINE OIL W ARNING : Never overfill the engine crankcase . The engine may overheat and/or damage ma y result if the crankcase is below th e “ADD” ma rk or over the “FULL” mark on the dipstick. For best results, fill to the “FULL” mark on the dipstick as opposed to adding a given quantity of oil.
45 • Remov e the filter by tur ning it counte rclockwise using an auto motive typ e filter wre nch to loosen. S ee Figure 55 . 46 • Start the engine a nd allow it t o run for a short period. Stop the en gine. • Recheck the coolant level in the overflow reservo ir and refill as needed. Reins tall the reservoi r cap. INSPECTION OF COOLI NG SYSTEM HO SES Check the cool ing system hos es and fan belt for any cra cks or deterioratio n after every 100 hour s of operatio n.
47 • Pull the air cl eaner elemen t from the hous ing. See Figure 5 8. Figure 58 • Lightly blow or b rush loose debris from the a ir cleaner element. Clea n any debris from th e housing. • Inspect th e paper pleat s of the cleaner element for dam age and dirt.
