1 Introduction to Server - based comput ing Wha t i s ser ver - base d computi ng? Serv er - ba sed com puti ng (SBC ) is a techn ology wher eby applicati ons ar e deplo yed, managed, su ppor ted and ex ecuted on the serv er and not o n the cl ient. Ins tead onl y the scr een in form ation is transmi tted be tw een the serv er and cl ient.
2 5. Security – Server - based com puting keeps all the d ata on t he secure ser ver s w ithout it bei ng 'sp read o ut' onto the l ess secure cl ient c omput ers. Further more th e ser ver is in the serv er room, w hich is far more sec ure th a n on the user’ s desk.

51 Preparing the Thin Clients Intr oduction After y ou have i nstalle d the 2X ThinClientS erv er, y ou can proceed to install /con figur e a thin cli ent or computer t o boot 2X ThinClie ntOS. 2X ThinCl ientOS can b e booted from a stor age device (CD -R OM , hard disk , USB or flash disk ) or i t can boo t ov er the netw ork ( PXE or Ether boot).
52 Thin Cli ent System Requir ements • Any thi n client /co mputer w ith a Penti um proc essor or hig her • 32 MB o f RAM is needed for C D - ROM USB or hard disk • 64 MB o f RAM is needed for PX E or Et herb oot • 45 0 MHz processo r or higher • If you w ant t o boo t vi a PXE, e nsure that your thin cl ient device supports PX E booting.
