5 Inserting the Batteries Open the battery cover . y Slide the battery cover in the direction indicated by t he arrow . Insert the batteries. y Insert two AA-size batteries with the positive (+) and negative (-) poles matching the directions indicated inside the battery room.
6 Inserting the Memory Card You can use SD cards with this dig ital camera. The memory card slot is located b eneath the battery cover, adjacent to the battery com partment. Open the battery cover . y Slide the battery cover in the direction indicated by t he arrow .
7 Setting the Display Language / Date & T ime When using the camera for the first time af ter purchasing, be sure to choose a language and set the date & time before using the camer a. Setting the Display Language T urn the power on, and set the camera to the Setup Menu ( p age 17).
8 Apply the setting. y After adjusting the settings, pre ss the SET or the MENU button to apply the setting. y If the batteries are removed for longer than 48 h ours, the date and time will need to be re-set.
9 Using the LCD Monitor The LCD monitor is us ed to c ompose ima ges while r ecor din g, ad just setting s and rep lay images. Th e following indicators may appear on the LCD mon itor while recording or playing back images.

12 Basic Operation T urning the Power On and Off Press the POWER button ( n ) to turn on the camera in the REC mode. y The power turns on, the lens exten ds and the LED light s in green. Press the PLA YBACK button ( o ) to turn on the camera in the PLA YBACK mode.
13 Changing the Mode Y ou can record images and voices in the REC mode and use the PLA YBACK mode to replay , delete, or edit images on the LCD monitor . Switching between REC mode and PLA YBACK mode In REC mode, press the PLA YBACK button ( n ) to switch to the PLA Y mode.

17 Setup menu T urn the power on, and set the camera to the REC or PLA YBACK mode ( pa g e 13 ) . Press the MENU button ( n ) to open the REC or PLA YBACK menu. y The menu displays depends on whether yo u are in the REC mode or the PLA YBACK mode. Open the Setup menu.

19 Menu Item Functions [Reset] : files or inserting a new memory card. Reset file numbering each time the memory card is changed. y Resetting the file number is useful for avoiding the file name duplication when im ages are downloaded to a computer ( page 50).
20 Basic Recording Recording Still Images T urn the power on, and set the camera to the REC mode ( pa g e 13 ) . Compose the subject on the monitor . y Aim the focus area ( n ) to the subject that you want to t a ke. Half press the shutter button to focus the image.
21 Using the Q mode The Q mode provides a simplif ied camera interface. Larger icons and fewer controls make it easier to take pictures a nytime, especially for the begin ners and elder users.
22 Setting Image Size and Quality Y ou can select lower image resolution and quality to decrease the image size to c aptur e more images. 23 Using the Zoom Function Your camera has a combination of optical and digital zoom functions that allows you to zoom in on far away subjects or zo om out for a wide angle shot. The optical zoom is achieved by mecha nically adjusting the lens of the camera.
24 Using the Flash The flash is not only for taking pictu res when there is insufficient light, but also when the subject is in shade or in backl ight conditions. Press the flas h button to cycle your camera through the various flash mod es. The flas h will not activate when c ontinuo us shooting or movie recording.
25 Using the Macro Your camera is equipped with a macro fun ctio n that allows you to focus on very close subjects. In macro mode you can focus on subjects 15 c m from the lens when in the maximum wide angle s etting a nd 40 cm in the maximum tele phot o setting.
26 Using the Self-timer & Burst Use the self-timer to set a delay from the time t he shutter button is pressed to the time the image is shot. Use the burst to record cont inuous still images shooting. T urn the power on, and set the camera to the REC mode ( p age 13).
27 Using the Aperture Priority In this mode, you can set an aperture v alue to match the brightness. A higher aperture value brings the b ackg roun d out of focus. Se le cting a lowe r ape rture v alue allo ws you to soft the bac kground. T urn the power on, and set the camera to the Aperture Priority ( pa g e 14 ) .
28 Using the Manual Exposure Y ou can manually set the shutter speed and aperture to ac hieve a part icular eff ect. T urn the power on, and set the camera to the Manual Exposure ( pa g e 14 ) . 2 Use the SET button to switch between aperture value and shutter speed control.
29 Recording Movie Clip s T urn the power on, and set the camera to the Movie mode ( pa g e 13 ) . Compose the subject on the monitor . y Aim the focus area ( q ) to the subject that you want to t a ke. y The LCD monitor displays the available record ing time ( p ).
30 Recording Audio Clips T urn the power on, and set the camera to the V oice REC mode ( pa g e 13 ) . Press the shutter button to st art recording. y The voices are recorded from the microphone of the camera. Be ca r eful to avoid touching the microph one while recording.
31 Recording a V oice Memo Y ou can add a voice memo to the still images af ter you record it. T urn the power on, and set the camera to the PLA YBACK mode ( pa g e 1 3 ) . Press or to select a still image that you want to add a voice memo. y If the image already has the v oice memo recorded, the appears on the LCD monitor .
32 Other Recording Functions Setting the Metering There are 3 different light metering options av ailable on your camera. Option Description Light is measured from the entire s hooting screen, but gives more import ance to the values near the center .
33 Setting the ISO With the initial settings, the ISO sensitivit y is automatically set according to the brightness of the subject. Option Description Auto Sets the ISO sensitivit y automatically . ISO 50 Set s the sensitivity to ISO 50 equivalent. ISO 100 Set s the se nsitivity to ISO 100 equivalent.
34 Setting the Sharpness Y ou can select whether you want the image to have sharp or sof t outlines. Option Description The edges of the image are e mph asized. Th e edges will become sharp, but noise may occur in the r ec ording image. The edges of the image are sharp.
35 Setting St abilizer With more sensibility and faster shu tter spee d to bright up the pictures, ef fectively prevent blur image caused by han d shack or target m ov ement, one can t ake good pictures with little effort .
36 Playback Playing Back Images T urn the power on, and set the camera to the PLA YBACK mode ( p age 13). y The latest recorded image appears on the LCD monitor . y If there are no images stored, a message [No image] appears. Press the four-way control or ( n ).
37 Magnifying & T rimming S till Images T urn the power on, and set the camera to the PLA YBACK mode ( p age 13). Select an image. y Press or ( p ) to select the image that you want to magnify or trimming. y Only still images can be magnified and trimmed.
38 Vie wing in Thumbnail T urn the power on, and set the camera to the PLA YBACK mode ( pa g e 13 ) . Press the zoom button [W], a thumbnail screen is displayed. Use the four- way control to select the desired image, and press [T ] or the SET button to show the selected image in full screen.
39 Deleting Files Deleting a Single File T urn the power on, and set the camera to the PLA YBACK mode ( pa g e 13 ) . Open the menu. y Press the MENU button ( n ), then use the four-way contro l ( o ) to select Delete ( ) and press the SET button ( o ).
40 Deleting Multiple Files T urn the power on, and set the camera to the thumbnail screen ( page 38). Open the menu. y Press the MENU button, then Press or to select to select Delete ( ) and press the SET button. Press or to select [Select], and then press the SET button.
41 Protecting a Single File T urn the power on, and set the camera to the PLA YBACK mode ( pa g e 13 ) . Open the menu. y Press the MENU button, then use t he four- way control to select Protect ( ) and press the SET button. Press or to select [SINGLE], and then press the SET button.
42 Protecting Multiple Files T urn the power on, and set the camera to the thumbnail screen ( pa g e 38 ) . Open the menu. y Press the MENU button, then Press or to select to select Protect ( ) and press the SET button. Press or to select [Select], and then press the SET button.
43 Editing Images Rot ating Still Images T urn the power on, and set the camera to the PLA YBACK mode ( pa g e 13 ) . Press or to select the image you want to rotate. Open the menu. y Press the MENU button, then use t he four- way control to select Rot ate ( ) and press the SET button.
44 Changing the Image with Effect s Y ou may use Red Eye Removal remove the red eye caus ed by flash from origina l photo. Or use color filters to save as a new im age. T urn the power on, and set the camera to the PLA YBACK mode ( pa g e 13 ) . Press or to select the image you want to add the effect.
45 Copying the Files Y ou may copy the data from the camera’ s internal memory to the memory card for convenience. Be sure you have inserted a memory card into your digit a l camera. Set the camera to the PLA YBACK mode. ( pa g e 13 ) . Open the menu.
46 Setting the DPOF The Digital Print Ord er Format (DPOF) setting allows y ou t o select images on the memory card for printing and specify the num ber of print copies in advance using the camera. Th is is ex tremely convenient for sending th e ima ges to a photo developing service or for printing on a direct pr int function compat ible printer .
47 Choosing a St artup Image T urn the power on, and set the camera to the PLA YBACK mode ( pa g e 13 ) . Open the menu. y Press the MENU button, then use t he four- way control to select S tart-up Image ( ) and press the SET button. 48 Making Connections Connecting the Camera to a TV Y ou can display recorded images on a television with a supplied A V cable. Set the TV out to match the TV system that you are using ( pa g e 1 9 ) . T urn off the camera and the TV . Use the supplied A V cable to connect the camera to the TV set.

50 Appendix About the Folder & File Name Your digital camera automatically creates a directory of folders in the internal m emory or memory card that it uses to organize still images, movie clips and other inform atio n.
51 T roubleshooting Problem Cause Solution Battery is inserted in the wrong direction. Reload battery in the correct direction. Batteries are dead. Replace or recharge batteries. Power does not turn on. The battery compartment door is open. Make sure the battery compartment door is securely closed.
