5 Att aching the Strap Attach the st rap to you r camera as shown in the image. y Do not swing the camera around by the strap Inserting the Batteries The camera is powered by two AAA-size al kaline batteries or rechargeable NiMH batteries. Open the battery cover .
6 Low Battery Indicator A low battery indicator appears o n the LCD screen when the batterie s are ne arly exhausted. Batteries should be replaced promptly when the low battery indicator appears. y There is a risk of explosion if the battery is repl aced by an incorrect type.

9 Setting Date & Tim e T urn the power on, and set the camera to the Setup Menu ( p age 17). Select [Date/T ime]. Press or on the five-way c ontro l button to select [Date/T ime] and then press on the five-way control button to launch the submenu.

13 Basic Operation T urning Power On & Off Press the Power button (1) to turn on the camera in the Capture mode. The power turns on and the LED (2) lights re d. Press the Power button (1) again to turn the power off. The power turns off and the LED turns off.
14 Selecting the REC Mode Press the Power button to enter the Capture mode. If the camera is in Playback mode, press the Playback button to change to REC mode. Press the Mode button (1) to change the REC mode. Each time the Mode button is pressed the REC mode icon cha nges.
15 Using the Menu in REC Mode When a menu is displayed, the fiv e-way control button is used to make the de sired settings. The Audio mode does not hav e a me nu so the MENU button will not work in Audio mode. Capture menu. Turn the power on, and set the camera to the Capture mode ( page 13).

17 Setup Menu Turn the power on and set the camera to the REC or Playback mode ( page 13). Press the MENU button (2) to ope n the REC or Playback menu. The menu displayed depen ds on whether you are in the REC mod e or the Playback mode. Open the Setup menu.
18 Menu item Function Language Select a language for the Display m enu and other information from the following languages: [English] : English, [Italiano] : Italian, [Français] : French, [Nederlands].
19 Firmware This functio n will sh ow the soft war e version. Basic Recording Recording Still Images Turn the power on, and set the camera to the Capture mode. ( pa g e 1 3 ) . Compose the subject on the monitor . Point the center area of the LCD screen at the subject that you want to take a photo of.
20 Selecting the Resolution and Quality You can select a lower image r esolution and quality to decreas e the image size in order to capture more images.
21 The resolution and qu ality will affect the required storage s pace of the images. Compression Purpose Super T o shoot higher quality images. Fine T o shoot normal quality images.
22 y The digital zoom works by enlarg in g the center portion of an image thr ough a software interpolation proces s. y The digital zoom is used to achieve magnific a tion levels up to approx. 4 times. y The higher the digita l zoom, the lower the image quality .
23 y The flash charging time may increase whe n the battery is low. y The screen is blank when the flash is char ging. The next image can be shot only when charging is completed. y Shooting with a flash in a bright env i ronment may cause incorrect exposu re.
24 Using the Burst-Snapshot Use this function to tak e 3 pictures continuously . T urn the power on, and set the camera to the Capture mode ( p age 13). Open the Capture menu ( page 15). Change the setting Press the Mode button to launch th e submenu.
25 Recording Movie Clip s T urn the power on, and set the camera to the Vi deo mode ( page 13). Compose the subject on the monitor . y Point the center area of the LCD screen at the subject that you want to take. St art recording. y Press the shutter button to start recording.
26 Recording Audio T urn the power on, and set the camera to the Audio mode ( pa g e 1 3 ) . Press the shutter button (1) to st art recording. The voices are recorde d via the microphone (2) of the camer a. Be careful to avoid touching the microphone while re cording.
27 Other Recording Functions Setting the White Balance Adjust the white balance to suit different light sources such as sunlight, incandescent (tungsten) lighting or fluorescent lighting. Option Description Automatically corrects whit e balance. Ideal for general photography.
28 Setting the Color Effect Set the color effect to a dd a color tone to the picture. Option Description Color Reflects the true color of the object. Sepia Adds a sepia color tone to the picture Monochrome The pictures only have two colors: white and black.
29 Setting Date St amp The date stamp function can be used to ad d a date to your pictures as you take th em. Option Description Enable Add the recording date & time to printed im ages. Disable Do not add the recording date & time to print ed images.
30 Playback Playing Back Images Turn the power on, and set the camera to the Playback mode ( page 13). The latest recorded image a ppears on the LCD display. If there ar e no images stored, a message [No file] appear s. Pressing or on the fiv e-way control button displays the prev ious or next image.
31 Using the Menu in Playback Mode When a menu is displayed, the fiv e-way control button is used to make the de sired settings. Using the Menu in Playback Mode Turn the power on and set the camera to the Playback mode ( page 13). Open the Playback menu .
32 Vie wing Thumbnails Turn the power on and set the camera to the Playback mode ( page 13). Press on the five-wa y control button: a thumbnail screen is displayed. You can als o view the thumbnail screen in the following way: Set the camera to the Playback mode, then press the MENU b utton to display the menu.
33 Deleting Files Deleting a Single File Turn the power on, and set the camera to the Playback mode ( page 13). Select the file you want to delete. When the file is shown in full screen, press or on the five-way control button to select the file you want to delete.
34 Deleting All Files T urn the power on, set the camera to Playback mode . Open the menu Press the MENU button. Then pres s or on the five-way control butt on to select [Delete all]. Delete the files Press on the fiv e-wa y control button to delete the files.
35 Protecting Files Turn the power on and set the camera to the Playback mode ( page 13). Select a file to be protected. If you want to protect a single file select it before operating the following steps. Press or on the fiv e-way c o ntrol button to select a recorded file Open the menu.
36 • An icon will be displayed on protect ed files. • Protected files cannot be deleted; however if the SD car d or internal memory are formatted, the protected files will a lso be erased. Choosing a St artup Image Setting the Logo Turn the power on, and set the camera to the Playback mode.

39 Making Connections Connecting the Camera to a TV Y ou can display recorded imag es on a television with the supplied A V cable. Set the TV -out to match the TV system that you are using. T urn off the camera and the TV . Use the supplied A V cable to connect the camera to the TV set.
40 Connecting the Camera to a PC There are two ways to download files fro m the camera's internal memory or memory card to a computer: • By inserting the memory card into a card reader • By connecting the camera to a computer using the supplied USB cab le.

42 Appendix About the Folder & File Names Your digital camera automatically creates a directory of folders in the internal m emory or on the memory card that it uses to organiz e still images, movie clips and oth er information.
43 T roubleshooting Problem Cause Solution Batteries are inserted in the wrong direction. Reload batteries in the correct direction. Batteries are dead. Replace or recharge batteries. Power does not turn camera on. The battery compartment door is open.
