Chapter 1 Printer Ov erv iew 12 The printe r combi nes the us e of Flas h, RAM, and nonvo latile RA M for program ex ecution . The Flas h is used f or all pr ogram, font, and emulatio n storag e. New fon ts, emu lations, or prog ram updat es ca n be downlo aded to Flas h mem ory via the parall el or se rial in terface.

15 2 Setting Up the Printer Befor e Y o u Be gin Read this chapter c arefull y before in stall ing and o perating the print er. The printe r is easy to instal l. However , for yo ur safet y, and to p rotect valuable equip ment, pe rform all the proc edures in th is chap ter in the order pres ented.

Chapter 2 Remove P acking Material s 22 8. Rota te the p laten pro tective foam ( 8 ) toward the front of the p rinter and out from under the suppo rt shaft. Adjust the Paper Supports 1. Sl ide the pa per supp orts ( 1 ) inward un til they are ap proximatel y four inche s from th e tractor doors ( 2 ).
Release the Paper C hains (Cabinet Model) 23 Rele ase the Paper Cha ins (Cabine t Model) 1. Op en the cab inet rear door. 2. Cut th e tie wraps ( 1 ) and release the paper chains ( 2 ) from the bags ( 3 ) a t the top rear of the print er frame. Rem ove the ti e wraps and bags.

41 3 Operating the Printer Powering On t he Pr inter When you power on t he printe r, it exe cutes a s elf-tes t. The defaul t power-up stat e is o nline . When the s elf-test com pletes and th e sof tware has initia lize d succes sfully , the status indicato r light tu rns on, ind icating the prin ter is onl ine.
Chapter 3 The Control Panel 42 The curren t operatin g mode may be s elect ed via contr ol panel keys, or may res ult from routine ope rations such as power ing on the print er. The Control Panel Figure 9 and Figure 10 sh ow the key s, display s and ind icators as they appear on the con trol pane l.

It may b e easier to feed on e corner o f the ne w paper up through th e slot first. W hen this c orner can be grasped from the top, rotate the paper ba ck to the normal p osition.

Load the pape r onto the sproc kets and close t he tracto r door ( 12 ). If nece ssary, slide the r ight tra ctor to remove paper sl ack or to adjust for various paper wi dths.
Reloading Paper 53 23. On pedes tal model s: Using the vertic al positi on knob t o move the paper up, guide the paper ov er the lo wer paper gu ide ( 14 ) and thro ugh the slot in t he top cover.
