10 3 Safety 3.1 General Safety Instructions Read these oper ating instructions carefully prior to commiss ioning of the PR OTECT A. UPS and observe the safety instructions! Only us e the unit if it is.

The CE m ark on the unit confirm s compliance with the EC outline directives f or 73/23 EEC – L ow voltage and f or 89/336 EEC – Electrom agnetic com patibility if the instal lation instructions describ ed in the oper ating instructions are observed.

20 5 Inst allation and Operatio n 5.1 Check Remove the UPS f rom its transport packaging and check that it has not been dam aged in tra nsit. If you find an y dam age, pack the unit up again and send it back to w here you purchased it.
21 EN 5.3 Charging The PROT ECT A. is supplied with its batter y f ully c harged. Nevertheless, energ y m ay have been lost d uring transport, so the batter y should be fully recharged before it is used f or the first time. Connect the input of the U PS (no.

These are always live irr espective of the other outputs. T hey are n ot bac ked up by the UPS, nor can the y be s witched off using the m ain s witch of the UP S.

25 EN 5.7.3 System Diagnosis / Fault Test If the m onitoring e lectronics dete ct an irregularity, the fault indicator is ac tivated which is sig nalled b y th e “Fault” pictogram and a digita l f ault c ode, possibl y acc ompanied b y an acous tic fault signa l.
26 6 Displays and T roublesh ooting 6.1 LC Display The blue back lit displa y is automatically act ivated after the mains voltage is con nected. It oper ates irrespectiv e of the main switch setting and also when a fault is indicated.

32 7.1 Battery Replacement ATTENTIO N: A batter y can cause an electr ic shock, and represents a consid erable hazard if ha ndled incorrectl y. The f ollowing precaution s should b e taken before the batter y is renewed. ♦ Switch of f the UPS and dis connect the m ains cable from the sock et.

34 8 Sto rage and Disposal Storage Long storag e tim es without charging or discharging the ba tter y at regular interva ls ma y lead to perm anent damage of the batter y. If the batter y is store d at ro om temperature (20° C to 30° C) it will autom atically disc harge at a rate of 3-6% per m onth due to internal reactions.
