E-6 General Guide Pa rt 1 Getting Acquainted This par t of the manual provides y ou with important information you need to know in order to use the Label Printer to its full potential. Be sure to read it carefully before using the Label Printer f or the first time .
E-7 Pa rt 2 Getting Ready This par t of the manual tells you ho w to load batteries and the tape car tr idge, and how to perf orm other basic setups for the Label Printer . Important! • Be sure to read this section bef ore attempting to use the Label Printer .
E-8 To load the batteries Caution • Do not touch the springs inside the batter y compar tment cov er with y our fingers while loading or replacing batteries.
E-9 T ape Cartridges Use the procedures described below to load a tape cartr idge into the Label Printer . Important! • Nev er try to push the tape back into the cassette. Once tape is out of the cassette, there is no wa y to wind it back in. T rying to do so can cause operational problems with the Label Printer .
E-10 (a) (b) 5. Use a pencil or some other thin object to take up slack in the ink ribbon as sho wn in the illustration. Note that the tape does not mo ve at this time. • If the ink ribbon is slack when y ou load it into the Label Printer, it can break or cause some other problem.
E-11 • Shift indicator This indicator appears when you press the SHIFT ke y. While this indicator is on the displa y , the ke yboard is shifted, so the letter ke ys input upper-case alpha characters. The number ke ys input the punctuation symbols mar ked in the upper r ight corners of the keys .
E-12 3. When you reach the end of a line of te xt, press to input a newline mark. • A newline operation is indicated on the displa y b y the symbol. This shows where you changed lines . • The maximum number of lines y ou can input depends on the width of the tape y ou ha ve loaded in the Label Printer .
E-13 Using T ext Blocks In the example label sho wn below , “Promotion Plan” and “Retail P ackage Sample Data” are independent units called “text b locks , ” or simply “bloc ks. ” Y ou can divided your tape label te xt into bloc ks and then apply the f ollowing settings on a bloc k-by-b loc k basis .
E-14 To delete characters using the DEL ke y Example: T o change the word “commmputer” to “computer”. 1. Use c and v to mov e the cursor under the first (f ar left) “m”. 2. Press DEL twice to delete the two m’ s at the cursor’ s position, shifting “mputer” to the left as you do .

E-18 T ape Backing Character Styles There are three character styles that y ou can assign; normal, bold, and outline. The f ollowing shows e xamples of each. Style Indicator Sample Normal None Bold Outline Character style changes are applied to printed text only .
E-19 • An easy wa y to remov e the backing from a tape and expose the adhesiv e surf ace is to bend the tape near one of its ends. This should cause the tape and its backing to separate , allowing y ou to pull them apar t.
E-20 When this setting is selected: T APE LENGTH MIRROR ALIGN PITCH Use z z z z z and x x x x x to select the option you want: •A UT O: Automatically adjusts tape length in accordance with the number of characters . • FIX: Maintains a fix ed tape length in the range of 0cm (0") to 99.
E-21 Pa rt 9 Memory This par t of the manual tells y ou how to store te xt data in memory for instant recall when you need it. Y ou can store two blocks of te xt in memory , containing up of 80 characters. Important! • All data stored in memory is deleted whenever batteries go dead and when y ou replace batteries.
E-22 To recall text from memory 1. While the input screen is on the displa y , press MEMORY . • Note that text recalled from memory will replace any te xt currently on the display . 2. Press z and x to select RECALL . SOE R L AL T C E R 3. Press SET .
E-23 Demo Printing Demo printing uses built-in data to demonstrate the type of tape label printing that can be performed by the printer . Important! • If there is label data from your last label la y out session is still in memory , performing a demo print will delete it.
E-24 Initializing the Label Printer If you e xperience serious malfunction of the Label Printer or if operation fails completely , try performing the following oper ation to initialize the printer . Important! • Initializing the Label Printer deletes all memor y contents.
E-25 T ape car tr idge compar tment cov er is not closed completely . No more tape left in the car tridge. T ape jam Securely close the cov er . Replace the tape cartr idge with a new one . Remov e the tape car tridge and pull out the jammed tape by hand.
