If you a re unsure of your tel e phone li ne type, check with your local telephone company. The factory default setting of your machine varies depending on the current country selection.

Speed dialli ng allows you to si mplify dialling procedures by registe ring a fax/teleph one number(s) an d name under a one-touch speed dialling key or coded speed diallin g keys. You can then dial that number by pressing only on e or a few keys.

4-2 ■ Dialling Methods There are several ways of dialling the number of the party to which y ou want to send a fax. They are as fol lows: ■ When the Fax Number is Not Regist ered in the Machin e .
4-3 4 Sending Faxes One-Touch Speed Dialling Dial a fax number by press ing the on e-touch speed diall ing key ( 01 to 12 ) to which the number is assigned. Ex: • The number re gistered under that one-touch speed diall ing key is dis played. • If you press th e wrong key, press Stop/Reset , then press the cor rect ke y.
4-4 Group Dialling Dial a group of fax nu mbers registered under a one- tou ch speed dialling key o r coded speed dialling code. ❚ To enter a group re gistered under a on e-touch s peed dialli ng key: Press the one-touch speed dialling key assi gned to the g roup you wish to fax.
4-5 4 Sending Faxes Sending Methods ■ Memory Sending The machine begins calling the other party and transmitting the information after all documents are scanne d into the memory. Since the machine is multitasking, you can perform ot her operations while the machine is send ing a fax.
4-6 ■ Using the Platen Glass • When documen ts are loaded in the ADF, the machine will scan th em. You need to rem ove documents from the ADF in advance, in order to fax from the pla ten glass . • You can operate Book Sending , Delete or Clear when the Function key is lit.
4-7 4 Sending Faxes Cancelling Sending Cancelling Memory Sending ■ To cancel memory sending while documents are being scanned using the ADF 1 Press Stop/Reset . • Scann ing is cancelled. ■ To cancel memory sending after all documents have been scanned ❚ While do cuments are b eing sent : 1 Press Stop/Reset .
4-8 Redialling When the Line is Busy There are two methods of redialling: Man ual redialling and Automatic redialli ng . This section explains th ese two methods. ■ Manual Redi alling Press Redial/Pause to dial the last number you dialled with the nume ric keys.
4-9 4 Sending Faxes Sequential Broadcasting Sending a Document to More Than One D estination This feature allows you to scan a document once and send it to several destinations.
4-10 4 Press Start . • After the scanning is finished, the mach ine starts to dial the number. • The machine will first send the docu ment to th e one-touc h speed d ialling destinations, then the co ded speed dialling destinations, and finally to the destination dialled us ing regular diallin g.
4-11 4 Sending Faxes Delayed Sending You can use your machin e to send faxes at a preset time. This feature is called Delayed sending or Time r sending . By using this feature, you can take advantage of lower long distance rate s at night, for example.
4-12 Confirming Transmission Status and Sending Reservation You can chec k the status of sending or receiv ing fax, or sen ding reservat ion. • You do not nee d to press Fu ncti on in step 1 to execute th e Fax Monitor function if FAX MONITOR i s pr o g r a m me d i n PROGRAM 1- TOUCH KEY .
4-13 4 Sending Faxes Documents Stored in Memory • If there are no documents stored in memory, the mach ine will return to standby mo de when you select Memo ry Referenc e. • You do no t need to press Funct ion in step 1 to execute the Memory Reference function if MEMORY REFERENCE is programmed in PROGRAM 1-TOUCH KEY .
4-14 ■ Resending a Do cument in Memory You can resend do cuments that are stored in memo ry. The machin e stores faxes tha t are receive d but not printed beca use paper or toner has run out, a paper jam has occurred, or docu ments have not be en transmitte d due to a transm ission error.

5-1 5 Receiving Fa xes Chapter 5 Receiving Faxes Different Ways to Receive a Fax The machin e provides you with several modes for receiv ing faxes. O nce you have de cided which mode is suitable for your needs, set the mode as describ ed in the Quick Start Guide.
5-2 Setting the Receive Mode The setting of the receive mode can be changed if necessary. 1 Press Receive Mode until th e mode you w ant appea rs. • You can select from the follo wing: – FaxTel * : when a telephone is conn ected to th e machine, the mach ine automatically switches betw een fax ca lls and vo ice calls.

5-5 5 Receiving Fa xes Receiving Faxes Manually In Manual mo de, if you co nnect a telephon e to your mach ine, you can receive voice calls as w ell as manually activate reception of faxes. You can activa te reception from the machin e or fro m the telephone connected to the machine (this is called Remote receiving ).
5-6 Registering a Password and Subaddress for Polling The polling feature allows you t o request a documen t to be faxed to you fro m another fax machine. The sender only needs to make sure t hat the do cument is on his fax machine and ready to be sent.

5-8 Receiving While Performing Other Tasks Since the machine is a multitasking devi ce, it can receive faxes and voice calls while you are perfo rming other tasks. If you receive a fax while you are p erforming certa in tasks, the machin e stores the incoming fax in memory .

6-2 ■ Switching Tempora rily to Tone D ialling Many information services for banks, airl ine reservations, hotel reservations, etc., require tone dialling for their services.
6-3 6 Special Features ■ Confirming a Dial Tone* * This feature is only availab le for some countries. This feature allows you to set your machine to listen for and d e tect a dial tone in the middle of a fax/telephone number before dialling the rest of the number.
6-4 Restricting Use of Your Machine By enabling this feature , you can prevent unauthorised us e of your machine to make calls and send faxes. Enabling Restriction of Your Machine Follow this procedure to enable restriction o f your machine: 1 Press Additional Functions .

7-2 ACTIVITY REPORT The machine is factory-set to automatically print an ACTIVITY REPORT after every 20 transactions. If you want to print an ACTIVITY REPORT before it is automati cally printed, follow this pro cedure: • If you prefer the machine not to print a n ACTI VITY REPORT after ever y 20 transactions, set ACTIVITY REPOR T to OFF .
7-3 7 Reports and Lists TX (Transmission) REPORT The machine is factory-set to prin t a TX (t ransmission) REPORT only when an error occurs du ring sending.
7-4 ■ MULTI TX/RX (Transaction ) REPORT If the transmission was a sequential broadcast, a MULTI TX/RX (transaction) REPORT, similar to the one below, will be printed. RX (Reception) REPORT The machine is factory-set not to print an RX (reception) REPORT even if an error oc curs during reception.

8-2 Faxing Problems ■ Sending Problems ❚ You cannot se nd a fax. The machin e may have over heated. • Unplug the machine and let it coo l for about 10 minu tes. Then plug in the ma chine and try sending ag ain. The machine may not be set for the type of telephone line in use (pu lse/tone).
8-3 8 Troubleshooti ng ❚ Cannot s end using Error Corre ction Mo de (ECM). The other party’ s fax machine may no t support ECM. • If the other pa rty’s fax machine does not s upport ECM, then the document is sent in norma l mode witho ut error checking .
8-4 ❚ Cannot r eceive a docu ment manuall y. You may have disconne cted the ca ll by pressing Start or dialling the remo te receiving ID after hanging up th e handset. • Always press Start or dial the remote receiving ID before hangi ng up the handset.
8-5 8 Troubleshooti ng Telephone Problems ❚ You cannot di al. The telephone line may n ot be conne cted proper ly. • Make sure all line connectio ns are secure. ( → Quick Star t Guide ) The power cord m ay not be plugg ed in securely . • Check that the po wer cord is plugged secu rely into the machine and into the wall outlet.
