5. Application V oltage Level (APVC) f or the Primar y Charging Roller and Scanning Lamp On V oltage Le vel A utomatic Correction Changes in the static latent image could cause the quality of copies; .
E. Controlling the T ransfer Roller Bias 1. Outline The copier uses a direct transf er method by a roller to transf er images to paper . F or this reason, its bias control diff ers from that of conv entional copiers, which tr ansf er images by corona charging.
Figure 4-113 shows the circuit used to control the f oregoing three types of bias; the circuit has the f ollowing functions: • tur ns on and off the transf er roller bias • controls the transf er bias to a constant v oltage • controls the correction of the transf er bias v oltage le vel Figure 4-113 COPYRIGHT © 1997 CANON INC.
2. T urning On and Off the T ransfer Roller Bias The TFWON signal is gener ated under the control of the microprocessor (Q512) on the composite pow er supply PCB. The signal causes the secondary side of the transf er transf or mer (T402) to tur n on, thereby applying a DC bias to the transf er roller .
F . Contr olling the Static Eliminator Bias 1. Outline Figure 4-114 shows the circuit that controls the static eliminator bias; the circuit has the f ollowing functions: • tur ns on and off the stat.
2. Switching the Static Eliminator Bias V oltage Level The microprocessor (Q512) on the composite pow er supply PCB generates the JCTL signal (analog signal) under the control of the DC controller PCB.
G. Controlling Blank Exposure 1. Outline The copier uses the reflecting plate to direct the light of the pre-e xposure lamp to the photosensitiv e drum by w a y of e xecuting b lank exposure , thereby blanking (whiting) out the non-image areas and areas between copies .
2. Blanking (Whiting) of Non-Image Areas for Reduction In Reduce mode, the change solenoid (SL1) turns on, and the lens mov es according to the selected reproduction ratio .
H. Controlling the Primary Corona Roller Cleaning Mec hanism 1. Outline The copier’ s primar y charging roller is equipped with an automatic cleaning mechanism. The automatic cleaning mechanism cleans the primar y charging roller dur ing initial rotation(INTR) after having made 250 or more copies , i.
I. Releasing the T ransfer Roller 1. Outline The copier’ s transf er roller is equipped with a releasing mechanism. The releasing mechanism releases the transf er roller to pre v ent adhesion of ton.
II. DEVELOPING ASSEMBL Y AND CLEANING ASSEMBL Y A. Outline The copier’ s photosensitiv e drum, dev eloping cylinder , No . 1 stirr ing rod, and No . 2 stirring blade are rotated b y the drive of the main motor (M1).
B. Controlling the T oner Level Detection The le vel of toner inside the car tr idge is monitored b y the antenna sensor circuit. The toner le vel sensor is f ound inside the car tr idge, and an A C bias is applied to the de veloping cylinder .
q When the Le v el of T oner Is Adequate The presence of toner around the toner le vel sensor causes the A C bias generated by the sensor to be larger than the ref erence signal. The condition causes the output from the comparator circuit to go ‘1’ and the toner out signal (TEP*) to go ‘0’.
C. Controlling the De velopment Bias 1. Outline Figure 4-204 shows the circuit used to control the de v elopment bias; the circuit has the f ollowing functions: • tur ns on and off the AC component .
3. T urning On and Off the A C Component of the Development Bias The microprocessor (Q512) on the composite pow er supply PCB generates the A CBIAS signal (pulse signal) under the control of the microprocessor master (Q301) on the DC controller PCB.
D . A utomatic Contr ol of Copy Density 1. Outline The copier has an automatic density adjustment mechanism (AE), which automatically controls the DC component of the de velopment bias according to the density of originals.
Figure 4-207 (Area Read by the AE Sensor) Reference: When copies are made in AE using an ADF-E1 (accessor y), the density is check ed f or each or iginal. COPYRIGHT © 1997 CANON INC. B. Controlling the Fixing Heater T emperature The fixing heater remains off while the copier is in standb y state. T o prev ent fixing f aults caused by low temper ature, its temper ature is controlle.
Reference: Nor mally , control 2 is used. Use control 1 to increase the control temperature if a fixing f ault occurs; or use control 3 to lower the control temperature if offset occurs . (See the p . 10-32.) Figure 6-103 COPYRIGHT © 1997 CANON INC. CANON NP6218 REV .
C. Controlling the Suppl y P ower f or the Fixing Heater The temperature of the fixing heater is controlled b y controlling the power supplied to the fixing heater . The resistance of the plane-shaped heater used as the fixing heater ma y sho w some v ariation depending on which production lot it comes from.
D . Detecting Overheating at the End of the Fixing Heater A sub ther mistor (TH2) is provided at the end (rear) of the copier’ s fixing heater to monitor ov erheating. This consideration to pre vent damage to the fixing film caused b y ov erheating of the area where paper (smaller than B4) does not come into contact.
F . Correcting Displacement of the Fixing Film 1. Outline The fixing film at times becomes displaced tow ard the front or rear as it keeps tur ning. T o correct such displacement, the copier is equipped with a correction mechanism.
The fixing film sensor (PS9) is used to detect the position of the fixing film and f ound at the end of the film. The rear (sensor side) of the fixing film is provided with a cut as sho wn in Figure 6- 106 so that the fixing film sensor continuously goes on and off .
Displacement of the fixing film is ph ysically corrected b y the fixing film motor (M4). When it identifies displacement of the fixing film, the DC controller rotates the fixing film motor to mov e the rear of the tension roller up and down, thereb y moving the fixing film to the center to correct the displacement.
2. Controlling the Fixing Film Motor The fixing film motor is a stepping motor , and is rotated by the driv e signal FMD and pulse signals FF A, FF A*, FFB, and FFB*. When FMD is ‘1’, the drive v oltage FFCA and FFBC are imposed; the motor star ts to rotate when pulses are applied to each phase in specific sequence.
