1 Chapter 1 Introduction This Chapter. . . provides a phy sical description of the sw itches , indicators and con nectors on the f ront an d rear panels of the DS9000 Se ries. describes o ther requirements (additional hardware and softw are) needed to use th e DS9000 Series dev ices.
2 Equipment Description The ADIC DS9000 Series consists of sev eral m odels: the A DIC 4000, D S9400D/L, DS9700D and DS9800D. A ll are SCSI co mpatible, high performance, streaming t ape cartrid ge devices d esigned for storage o f near-line an d o ff- line data.
Introduction 3 Caution SE and LVD/SE SCSI d evices are no t compatib le with HV D SCSI devices. Equipme nt dama ge m ay occur if you c onnect y our DS9000 Ser ies unit to an incompa tible SCSI bus. 12 Installation Unpacking and Inspecting Caution If the operating environm ent diff ers from the stora ge env ironme nt by 15° C (30° F) or more, le t the unit acclim ate to the surrounding e nvironm ent for a t least 12 hour s. Unpack all items from the carton .
Installation 13 Note Make sure that the SC SI cable be tween the host adapter a nd the DS9000 Serie s is sec ure and the conn ection s are fastened correct ly.
14 Installation Setting the SCSI ID The SC SI address of the D S9000 Series may need to be change d, depending upon fact ors in the se tup, operating sy stem , and num ber of SC SI devic es on the bus . Each dev ice on the bus must ha ve its ow n address.
Installation 15 The SCSI ID sw itch is locate d on the rear of the DS9000 Se ries (se e Figure 7) . Use a sm all pointed object to pres s either the + button on the bottom , or the m inus button on the top of the sw itch to sele ct the proper ID.
