2 Introduction Intr oduction Congratulations on the purchase of your Adaptec V ideOh! TM Media Center kit. W ith this ki t, you can watch television on your computer , and convert television (TV) pr ograms and analog video from your camcor der or VCR into digital format to cr eate you own Hollywood style video CDs (VCDs) or DVDs .

4 Introduction This is Y our A VC-2310 P ower LED Status The LED on the fr ont of the A VC-2310 lights up to indicate the status of operation. The following table indica tes the status modes. 6 Installing the Drivers Installing the Drivers Before you can begin capturing analog video or TV pr ogramming, you must install the V ideOh! Media Center device drivers. Installation is an easy two-s tep process. First you install the USB loader , then you install the device driver .
7 Installing the Drivers Windows XP W indows XP automatically detect s your device and ope ns the Found New Har dwar e W izard. T o perform the installation, follow the instructions pr ovided in this section. Note: Befor e installing the driver , make sure the V ideOh! CD is in your CD-ROM drive.
8 Installing the Drivers 2 If this window appears, click Continue Any way . Note: Adaptec drivers have been fully tested and certified to work with the A VC-2310 device. W indows ins talls the driver . 3 Click Finish to complete the USB Loader installation.

Note: If you plug your A VC-2310 into a USB 1.1 port, this message appears during driv er installation: A hi-speed USB device is plugged into a non-hi-speed USB hub . 15 Installing the Drivers 2 Select Automatic search... , then click Next. 3 Click Finish to complete the USB Loader installation. 4 When the Add New Hard ware W izar d opens, r epeat Steps 1 through 3 to install the device drivers.

T o perform the installation, follow the instructions pr ovided in this section. Note: Befor e installing the driver , make sure the V ideOh! CD is in your CD-ROM drive.

19 Installing the Drivers 6 From the Add New Har dware W izar d, click Next, then follow Steps 2 through 4 to install device drivers. 7 If requir ed, insert your W indows 98SE CD, then click OK .
20 Installing the Drivers 8 Click Finish to complete the installation. Note: If the driver file being instal led from the V ideOh! CD is older than the existing driver file, you may get a version conflict message. Se lect to keep the newer driver file.
21 Installing the Software Installing the Softwar e Once the drivers ar e installed, yo u ar e ready to install InterV ideo ® Wi n D V R ™ , and Sonic ® MyDVD ™ and the ArcSoft ® Showbiz ™ companion software. Note: If MyDVD or W inDVR are alr eady installed on your system, uninstall them before installing the newer versions.
22 Connecting Y our Device Connecting Y our Device Follow these steps to connect your video device (VCR or camcorder) or TV sour ce (cable, satellite receiver , antenna, and so on) to the A VC-2310 .

24 W atching and Recording TV with WinDVR Navi gating WinD VR Y ou can navigate W inDVR using th e on-screen Contr ol Panel, your keyboard, or the r emote control included in the V ideOh! kit. This section pr ovides an overview of all thr ee navigation tools.
25 W atching and Recording TV with WinDVR Using the Remote Control The remote contr ol requir es two AA batteries (included in the kit) and features buttons and functions similar to standard TV r emote controls. Its special featu res ar e explai ned in the Figur e below .
26 W atching and Recording TV with WinDVR Opening WinD VR T o open W inDVR, double-click the InterV ideo W inDVR icon (shown at right) on your desktop, or press the Power button on your r emote control . The Display W indow and Control Panel appear . Note: The Power bu tton on the remote control opens the W inDVR software.
27 W atching and Recording TV with WinDVR 3 Leave all options in the iEPG window at t heir default settings. 4 In the Channel window , click Autoscan . An autoscan lets W inDVR know which cha nnels are available. Y ou can perform an autoscan at any time in the Setup window .

29 W atching and Recording TV with WinDVR Time-shifting Y ou can us e W inDVR’s T ime Shift mode to pause, replay , or skip commercials while watching li ve TV .
30 W atching and Recording TV with WinDVR 2 Use the Fast-forward or Rewind buttons to move quickly inside the buffer ed portion of the program. Use the Skip and Replay buttons to jump forwar d or backward a few seconds.
31 W atching and Recording TV with WinDVR 3 Press Stop on the remote contr ol to exit T ime Shift mode and return to Live TV mode. W inDVR prompts you to type a name for the recor ded program. 4 T ype the file name, then click OK . The file is saved to your hard drive.
32 W atching and Recording TV with WinDVR Scheduling Recor ding Y ou can program W inDVR to r ecord a TV pr ogram or r emind you of an upcoming program. T o schedule r ecor ding: 1 Open the TV Panel. (See page 27 for instructio ns.) 2 Click Schedule .

35 W atching and Recording TV with WinDVR Capturing a Still Image Y ou can capture still images f rom TV pr ograms using the W inDVR Control Panel. Note: Y ou can captur e still images while you’re watching live TV , or whi le you’re playing back a recorded pr ogram.
36 Creating a TV Project with WinD VR and MyD VD Cr eating a TV Project with Wi n D V R a n d M y D V D This section provides the basic steps for creating a TV pr oject to be burned to DVD or CD for storage and future viewing. Note: T o cr eate a video project, see page 40 .
37 Creating a TV Project with WinD VR and MyD VD Importing to MyD VD T o burn a recor ded T V program onto a DVD or CD, you must first import it to MyDVD. 1 Close W inDVR. Do not open MyDVD when W inDVR is running. 2 Start MyDVD by double-clicking the Sonic My DVD icon on your desktop.

Select the video file you want, then click Open . 5 Y our file is loaded into MyDVD and appears as a thumbnail picture on your Main pr oject window . T rimming Y our Recorded Pr ogram Now that you’ve captur ed your TV pr ogram, you can trim it.
39 Creating a TV Project with WinD VR and MyD VD Burning Y our Program onto D VD or VCD It’s a good idea to see how your DVD/VCD pr oject will look befor e you burn it to the disc. See Previewing Y our Project on page 45 for information on preview quality and troubleshooting.
40 Creating A Video Project with MyD VD Cr eating A V ideo Pr oject with MyDVD These instructions give you th e basic steps for capturing your video, trimming it, and then burning it to DVD or CD. Note: T o cr eate a television project, see page 36 . T o get more information, r efer to the online tutorial included with Sonic MyDVD.
41 Creating A Video Project with MyD VD Capturing Y our Video T o successfully capture your video, make sur e you complete each step in the order given. 1 Start MyDVD by clicking the Sonic My DVD icon on your desktop. The W elcome window appears. 2 Move the mouse pointer over either DVD-V ideo or V ideo CD, then click Create or Modify a .
42 Creating A Video Project with MyD VD 3 On the Main project window (shown in Step 2 on page 41 ), click Capture . The Captur e window appears. 4 Press the Play button on your analog video device. The video image appears in the Capture window , as shown in Step 3 .
43 Creating A Video Project with MyD VD 8 Click Done when finished. Y our video clip is saved and you will see a thumbnail pictur e on your Main project window . Note: If you plan to do multiple video captur es in the same session, save your project, then close and r elaunch MyDVD after six captures.
44 Creating A Video Project with MyD VD T rimming Y our Video Now that you’ve capture d some video footage, you can trim it. For example, you can change your St art and End points. Y ou can also choose the specific video frame that you want to use as the thumbnail pictur e that is displayed in your Main pr oject window .
45 Creating A Video Project with MyD VD Previe wing Y our Pr oject It’s a good idea to see how your DVD/VCD pr oject will look befor e you burn it to the disc. T o preview your project, pr ess Preview at the bottom of your Main project window , then double-click the thumbnail clip you want to look at.
46 Creating A Video Project with MyD VD Sharing Y our D VD or VCD Now that you’ve captured your video and burned it to a DVD or CD, you’re ready to sh are it. Y ou can play your newly cr eated DVD on most compatible DVD pl ayers. Y ou can play your newly crea ted VCD on most compatible DVD players or CD-ROM drives .

Use this table to estimate the amount of disk space r equired: Note: Due to W indows’ F A T file system, the largest file you can capture is 4 GigaBytes (GB).
52 Getting Help Need Help Capturing Y our Video? ■ If your analog video device, such as a VCR or camcord er , is not powered on, after about 1 minute, you will get an err or message. T o allow MyDVD to recognize and captur e the video: aC l i c k OK to close the err or message.
53 Getting Help ■ If there ar e gaps in your analog video tape, MyDVD stops capturing. T o continue, start capt uring a new clip after the gap. Gaps in video footage ar e often ca us ed by stops, pauses, static, or u nre co rde d sp a ce in t he o ri gi n al rec o rdi ng .
